Sangeetha Kalanidhi Padmabhushan Dr. Sripada Pinakapani garu was one of the greatest musical minds of the 20th century. From his first fateful meeting with Rangaramanuja Ayyangar to his 99-year young self exclaiming in delight as a disciple sang for him beside his bed, it would be far from an exaggeration to state that he lived and breathed music. As a flourishing medical practitioner, the Dean of Kurnool Medical College, wrestler, bodybuilder and proficient sportsman, just to name a few, he was the consummate polymath. Even with a hectic agenda where time itself was at a premium, he managed to amass an enviable collection of compositions and train a talented group of students who later went on to be the very creme-de-la-creme of the Carnatic milieu.
It is not often that a 108th birth anniversary tribute is the 9th edition of its kind. His powerful body and perennially-active musical mind ensured that he lived to see his sishyas burgeon and develop into fine musicians in their own right. Even as his voice began to deteriorate, Pinakapani garu continued to sing - from his chair, his bed, and in all probability with renewed vigour in the realms above. As his students, family, friends and admirers, we would like to join our hands in tribute to the institution that is Dr. Sripada Pinakapani garu.
In Part 1 of this tribute, we have collected affectionate and respectful musical homage from many of those associated with the Sangeetha Rushi, from Jayalakshmi Sekhar garu to veteran vidwan Malladi Suribabu garu, with speeches by such exalted musicians as R Venugopal garu and Dr. Saraswati Vidyarthi garu. Many students from his sishya parampara will also render compositions to pay their respects, and we will listen to some of the great vidwan's own singing as well.

Honey dripping music. Perhaps one of the sweetest voices. The music is grand in its own merit, no accompaniment is required to embellish the music further. One of the Greatest Musicians of all time. It is incredible that he has produced a line of sishyas to carry on the legacy.
