  • This piece is the second movement of Earth, Before And After Humanity, a
    meditation on mortality, and our place in the world.
    People as we think of ourselves today occupy only the barest moment of history.
    The present day is represented by the sounds of a German train station.
    Progress gives way to the inevitable punctuation of time.
    Ambient sounds from the farm bring the natural world back into the frame, shepherding the slow process of decay into silence.
    Birdsong in the last section is not looped at all, this was recorded one spring evening into morning!
