  • The FlyInside B206 has been available for a while now. FlyInside's focus has been on developing a flight model that is as close to the real thing as you can get in Microsoft Flight Simulater. But has their hard work paid off?
    If it's realism you're looking for from your flight sim experience, then you may want to check this out.

      Wow, thanks! It's always satisfying when you land at your destination with that "I didn't die" feeling. But in all seriousness I think it's a great flight model and really highlights some (at least my) bad habits picked up from less realistic models and makes you straighten them out.

    I am a private helicopter pilot, comercial aircraft pilot and designer of fixed-wing and rotary airmodel aircraft. I can tame this wild horse in realistic mode without any adjustments but I can say, although I have never flown a real B206, that the flight dynamics are completely wrong. The oscillations in the ground effect as well as the constant corrections, often with great amplitude and speed, in the collective make taxiing at low height and for a medium distance a true coordination exercise that is tiring, especially at night. Getting the model exactly where you want it is difficult. But it serves for training and to sharpen your senses, but it is far from being a realistic simulation.

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  Před 10 měsíci +1

      That's some great feedback. I've seen a couple of reviews from other helicopter pilots saying that the it's a little "oversensitive". The handling in ground effect is definitely challenging but as you say it certainly sharpens your senses.
      As someone who clearly has some good real world knowledge of rotorcraft, have you found either a flight model configuration for this helicopter that you would consider to have realistic or at a least a good approximation of realistic flight dynamics? Or have you flown any MSFS helicopters that you think are as close to the real thing as could be achieved in MSFS?

    You earned another subscription. I've owned it for a while & like it too. Great video & great flying. I assume you had crash damage disabled (at least for auto-rotating?) Do you use any "Assists" ...like tail rotor assist? Does Cowansim make the Huey for DCS?

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  Před rokem +1

      Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Crash damage was enabled for the whole flights including autorotation. MSFS can be little over sensitive with it's crash damage sometimes but it's generally ok with skidding. I don't use any flight assists myself but they can be a good way to get started, especially with some of the trickier aircraft. I think tail rotor assist is primarily useful if you don't have a set of pedals as otherwise it could be tricky to handle. I believe the DCS Huey is made by Belsimtek. I don't think Cowansim make any DCS modules but I could be wrong. I believe Blackbird Simulations have an MSFS Huey in the works, which I'm quite excited about.

    This heli and the other FlyInside Bell have the most tendancy to pendulum while hovering than anything else I've tried (including the Cowan 206). Most of the asobo ones I feel like it's mostly just counter with opposite stick and the neutralizing that correction isn't as important but this one you can get wildly out of control very quickly if you don't get it right. I'd be interested to know which is more realistic. The FlyInside definitely feels more difficult to me.

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  Před rokem +1

      It certainly takes very fine movements to keep it under control but after a while it becomes seond nature. Then you jump in another helicopter and it feels so easy by comparison.

    Wonderful video! I especially like your comparison of the realism levels. Personally I like "realistic", but with helicopter stability increased to 10%. Otherwise the pendulum effect is a bit too pronounced for me. What really sets the FI 206 apart from all the other MSFS helicopters are the turbine limits, which you showed as well. So thank you very much for the comprehensive review!

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the nice feedback. Yes the pendulum effect takes some getting used to. The limits were a big factor for me. I flown other helicopters in MSFS where you climb vertically really easily just by yanking up the collective. I tried that in FlyInside B206. It didn't end well 😂

      @@flightsoficarus I did a comparison a few weeks ago where I tried to fly to the top of the Zugspitze, Germany's highest mountain at 9718 feet, with different helicopters. In the FlyInside 206, I was right on the edge of the performance envelope and needed to consider density altitude and turbine temperature, creating a very interesting challenge. In all the other helicopters, I could simply pull the collective and fly to the top, without any increase in TOT or N1.

    Taking into consideration, that you have 1000hrs+ in various sims, i am truly suprised about the enthusiasm, with which you portray this model.
    I have bought it when it came out, and my only concern about it is how to get my money back. This flight model might be surprisingly good for a huey. This thing simulates a teetering hub from a Huey with a stabilizer bar, but not a Jetranger. Pinning the word realism to that 25 times in the ads won't buff it out.
    It may sound like a good feature to have adjustable "realism settings", but as a matter of fact, to me it only depicts, that the "experienced owner and pilot of a real Jetranger" just couldn't translate that to code, to have the one true flight model, that resembles a proper Jetranger in the sim (with all it's drawbacks, which is a totally different story- it is not a real helicopter). I am an experienced owner and driver of an Audi A6 but could i program that in a sim? You bet not, it's a marketing line not saying anything about the actual realism of a product.
    The model, compared to all JetRanger models from Dodosim FSX, the 407 and 206 in Xplane, Cowans 206 and 206L in MSFS2020...just about ALL other Jetrangers in existence, really stands out for it's completely unrealistic behaviour. What is it with the "totally realistic settings", that need additional adjustment to get it right somehow, and still has a chance to render it completely useless? I'll tell ya: To blame the customer to not have the settings right, because the programmer couldn't do it. Did you ever fly a Jetranger? Have you ever seen a Jetranger anywhere behaving like this? Even the ones stolen by nonpilots did not do this. That is, because it just is not realistic, no matter how often the word comes up in a marketing sheet.
    The manner, in which Flyinside reacts to all valid criticism about their products, is close to insulting, and at various points WAS and IS insulting. Sooner or later in every single discussion about this, the one guy from Flyinside will not introduce himself as what he is, and will start to blame every user complaining about the s***** flightmodel. I have about 2500 hours in flightsims, plus a few real hours in helicopters, and real flight simulators used for real training, and have never ever not been able to control it in the real fashion. Except for this abomination. You could call it the ultimate challenge, rendering 25 years+ in helicopter simulation useless, because this and only this is realistic, no matter how not realistic it feels and looks. Easy argument, not many úser have a real jetranger to prove otherwise.
    This is a very blunt buyer beware message to all those considering buying this for their MSFS2020 experience. When the programmer blames your 2500€ Control Setup, that never has any problems in any sim with no helicopter at all, it should be a red flag. Mr. M will not take i mildly and he will start calling you names. This has not happened once or twice - literally the worst spokesperson for a company ever. Take all other options into consideration before dropping a single dime into this.
    Sorry about the rant, but having been fooled into buying this, and watching this probably making other users wasting money remaining silent is not an option.

      I'm sorry hear you had a bad experience with it. I can only speak to my experience and while it can be challenging I can't say I've experienced these issues. I'm not affiliated with FlyInside and have had no cause to complain so I can't speak to their customer service issues. However I'm not opposed to people respectfully expressing an opposing opinion so thank you for your contribution.

    I have a few hundred hours in 206's albeit decades ago. Really enjoying this flight model, it's not bad at all. A few instrumentation problems but nothing to ruin the experience. An ADF and DME would be nice for a bit of cross country IFR.
    The question I have is how does this compare to other flight models in MSFS? I suspect this one sits out on it's own.

    • @flightsoficarus
      @flightsoficarus  Před 7 měsíci +1

      ADF and DME would be nice to give people an alternative to relying on GPS. The flight model is definitely quite different to other MSFS flight models. I think most flight models are built with a conventional sprung joystick in mind, whereas I feel this would benefit greatly from the player having a more realistic cyclic/collective setup with adjustable friction. I've found real flight controls offer more resistance than your typical game controller and as such it's very easy to over do it with trying to make precise adjustments with this module. But I think this is why so many people struggle with this module.
