    As a motorcycle mechanic for 20 years I have rebuilt many cranks this way including the Hondas. Different technique but the same result good job👍

    Honda's version of crankcase stuffers which is what we called 'em back in the 60's and 70's. Been rebuilding cranks for decades.

    Great job re-trueing the crankshaft! This video is inspiring me to find a used but decent crankshaft to try rebuilding and re-truing it. (In order to really figure this kind of stuff out you’ve got to do it, right?) Well done sir as always! 👍

    My engine had a broken part and here is how I fixed it..... I took the broken part off. Next week, how to fix a puncture... just take the tyre off.

    Does that sheet metal take off not affect the horsepower or the quality of the engine?? I have a CR250 from 87 an needs rod remplacment so i don't know if I need to take those covers of..

      Yes it will effect your bottom end power because of a lower crankcase pressure that caused by removing the cover, But your engine will run cooler at high rpm though.

      All your videos are really good, but to run that crank with no stuffers is not good at all, the bike will loose all low end response, Honda builds that crank so it's light, and the tin can takes up the excess volume.

    Hi Paul excellent video! What was the purpose of the 'shell' around the crank (know the stuffer usually like some sort of polymer material).

      The purpose of the cans where for case volume. CR500 where the same way. it's not a very good design from Honda but change it in 2003

    Are those plates to stop turbulence rather than to add volume as this looks like an afterthought on Honda's part which I would not think likely, easier to machine the cases smaller, what do you think?

      Paul Duffy The plates “ fill “ the volume in the crank shaft that is machined out for balance purposes , so no , you can’t just make the cases smaller .

      @@evaork3746 No it cant be full round. It is offset to counter balance the weight of the rod and piston. The metal on the outside is to take up volume inside the crankcase increasing your primary compression. While this may run. You are giving up top end generally from a lower primary compression. Many builders will fill the crankcase with epoxy to increase primary compression which generally increases your top end. There is so much science to this that it cant be explained in youtube comments.

      It is displacers for af mixture. They help to take and give a little bit more amount of mixture ... But it will works fine!

      To decrease crankcase volume. Less charge to the bottom end more charge to the transfer ports.

    Loss of performance due to the increased free volume in the crankcase.
    If Honda made that covers on the crankshaft there is a reason.

      Only OLD Villiers and the like used crankcase compression to transfer mixture. Modern engines at anything over cranking revs, and particularly on-the-pipe, use resonance. Increased crankcase volume will likely increase power, especially if other mods are done to take advantage of the extra volume.

      Tim Engel . I have done this many times with both 125 and 250’s and can definitely state the the power loss is surprisingly small . Even on a 125 only a skilled rider would notice the difference . It does make a a difference , but it’s not big .

      it's not about cost ,but about time , oem parts take so long to ship ,and it's hard to get only that bearing without buying whole crank

      @@venox5183 Bearings are available from a multitude of vendors . This bearing will be available from a third party usually a lot cheaper .

      Pro-X rod. They supply silver plated flat cage bearings as well - 22.243117F. The covers would have been to reduce windage. The secondary effect would have been a reduction in crankcase volume. Removing it will probably improve thrust washer lubrication which it looked like they need. The increased windage will reduce performance and the increased crankcase volume will probably improve on-the-pipe performance. Maybe.

      Assembled crankshaft are kind dull and dumb ... and I think they're no more a viable solution on new engines due to their low efficiency emissions-wise
