      Yvonne Jones Thank you lovely! I actually stayed in the same company but ended up changing my role into something I've always wanted to do. I have a lot more autonomy and a lot more responsibility. I'm getting travel opportunities. It won't be a life fixture for me but it's setting me up with experience I've wanted to get for a long time, and I feel like I'm finally working towards something, rather than for the sake of it if that makes sense.

    Tip 1- always network & make friends. Most of my job interviews were obtained by referral from friends (working at companies I was interested in) or contacts I had made along the way.
    Tip 2- It's easier to find a job if you already have a job. Don't quit your job if you are trying to find another job. Prospective employers favor applicants who are already employed over applicants who are jobless. You appear more desirable.
    Saving money tip- if you are working for a corporation that has an employer matching program for a 401K savings plan, take advantage of it.

    • @Herfirsthouse
      @Herfirsthouse Před 8 lety +1

      +Marla Robinson 401k is so important. I can't wrap my head around people who don't contribute to a 401k because they can't afford to. Um, you can't afford not to. That's free money (company match) left on the table.

    Great information. I would suggest taking Sophie's tips. It is great real world advice. Sophie is right about asking for a raise or job promotion, you don't ask you don't get and people want go getters and waiting to be recognized is disappointing because it can be a long wait even if you are the most deserving person in the company. ASK! ASK! ASK!

      Funny thing.... I got injured right before college, graduated, great internships, but let go quickly because the owners of the companies were worried I would get injured on their property because I was on crutches and didn't get to have the dream career. But, I did temp work where my mom worked, and her boss from day one always said Ask. He was a medical malpractice, products liability lawyer, etc. He always asked the judge for what he wanted, no matter what anyone said, and defense attorneys were shocked that he got what he wanted a lot. He asked insurance companies for the medical he wanted for his clients or money no matter how much (millions) he wanted, if it was real estate and he wanted a better price, upgrades, repairs, things removed from the property, etc, food in restaurants, upgrades in ordering flowers, better rates than what is advertised at banks for interest ( works best when you have money in the bank and know the head of the bank, introduce yourself, say hi, etc, FaceTime, because you are in biz, might need a loan, a good rate, house loan), you name it he asked, PROMOTIONS AND RAISES, AND TITLES. You don't ask you don't get was his motto. Many folks get upset when they see someone get but they usually don't ask. Women are notorious for not asking. Especially in business. One can ask for trial periods when buying a service so one isn't stuck if they aren't happy. He was notorious for crossing out the part of any contract and putting his initials next to what he could not agree to and most of the time you have the right to do that. Some places might say get lost, but most don't. I usually will cross out things with medical contracts doctors in the US want you to sign. I always ask for samples with makeup and perfume and try to shop at places I can return the makeup if I don't like it so I am not stuck with product.
      I get the feeling you know this already but your viewers may not.
      Cheers!

    You are so right about promotions. Some jobs want to keep you down and won't support you. Especially as women, keep your career in your hands!! Same with salary. Ask for want you want, network, and make it happen. Leave if they don't get it.

    Can I just add to the job seeking tip, about looking up your future boss.... and about our most powerful tool - the gut instinct.
    If they're not showing on LinkedIn then I'd see that as an Amber Flag.
    I literally just took a job at a very well known firm but the person I was going to work for couldn't be found on the internet, apart from the Law Society. When I started working for her I realised why - completely unsupportive and unable to delegate, no leadership skills - it's the first time I've ever left a job within a week - I've always stayed for at least a year.
    If you have negative gut instincts during the interview AND when you get home, if you can afford to turn the job down, do it. Just do it. I ignored my gut instinct at my peril. If you need the job, be single minded and tough, tough it out and keep looking for other jobs❤

    Hey there, I have just started watching your videos (I found your channel through your Chanel videos) - can I just say, your channel is very refreshing, yes it is about designer goods, but you have worked very hard for them and appreciate their worth, you can tell you have your feet on the ground and good core values (Good work ethic, business sense yet down to earth)- this video has been particularly inspirational in that you are giving advice on money and savings and careers which there isn't a huge amount of straight forward advice about it for young people ( I'm 24 and it all confuses me! ) and isnt isn't held up with so much importance in our society for women. You have a nice balance of some sound advice and the experience but we can still have some escapism in the form of fashion. Sorry if this was ramble but just wanted to say I'm really glad I subscribed! x

Everything you said really resonated with me: not being afraid to take that first crappy job out of uni, how saving can be a thrilling experience, pepping up your resume and really putting yourself in the best light possible etc. It's really refreshing to hear about your thought process and how you prioritize in order to get to where you want in life. Thank you for the motivation!!! Often times I watch CZcams (especially in the beauty/lifestyle/luxury goods area)and it seems like people just come up with the means to buy everything all the time, so it's really great to see what your process was, and it's not magic, it's called hard work! :D #girlboss

      The theme of my channel is shopping inspiration - in a sort of light-hearted/fun format. Nothing too serious, you know!
      But I was passionate about recording this video, as a means of (hopefully) helping/inspiring others. I agree that it can be sort of unhelpful to see some 'haul' type videos and so-on... Mainly because you can be left feeling inadiquate... I've not done anything cleaver really, just worked - and I'd love to inspire others to know they can have the life they want :)❤️

    She was right! There's actually a term for it: "Internal Customer Service." I trained companies in both internal and external (what most would consider 'normal' customer service) customer service and many times, when a company would hire me to train their employees bc they were having problems, but couldn't place them, it was almost always internal customer service problem. I didn't use the term depending on the gig, but I definitely used the materials - and I always nabbed 5 stars! ;) Thank you for your channel! Love how you love your subscribers too!

    Loved this video! I am an artist and do fine, the problem for me is that it DOES get lonely, and I do tend to be a workaholic because there isn't "work hours". I agree with saving the money, once I have the money for nice things I get so nervous about actually spending the cash. Best of luck with your new business! XOXO Jamie

    I def agree about a covering letter/cv being geared towards that particular company. It's all about selling yourself before they have even met you.

    I actually cannot believe how similar we are! I got 4A*s and 6As at GSCE (kinda enjoyed the exams), slightly failed at A levels and then studied consumer behaviour and marketing at uni, got a 2:1 and now I'm working at a marketing agency... Been working there for 6 months, asked for a promotion and got one! I cannot wait to reach where you are now. Decided I'm gonna aim for director level by 27 now haha :) As soon as your business reaches the point of hiring more people... let me know!

    • @MarissaBabiie
      @MarissaBabiie Před 8 lety

      Omg, I aced my GCSEs, failed my A levels, and I'm currently on track for a 1st at uni doing ba business and law. how did you overcome the burden of your a levels? because I feel like when it's time to apply for jobs I'm going to be filtered out due to my low ucas points :(.

    • @felicitycoghlan3077
      @felicitycoghlan3077 Před 8 lety +1

      Don't panic it will be fine! For me personally my a levels were never been an issue for applying for jobs. It probably depends on the type of jobs you're applying for? I decided that the typical grad schemes and big corporates weren't right for me straight away so I applied for jobs at more SME sized businesses and literally had job offers rolling in - they care less about your qualifications and more about your work ethic and attitude. My priority straight out of uni was to find a job with huge learning potential and that's exactly what I got, so now I'm in an ideal position to progress really quickly if you get me haha. But don't worry it will be fine! What sorts of jobs are you applying for?
