Welcome to our weekly vlog from aboard our 57ft Narrowboat.
Well we have decided to buy our wide beam boat and this week we start to view them! The one we view this week is a 65 ft Collingwood and its a beautiful boat.
Do we buy it though?

I absolutely LOVE this boat!! If I was to get one…I’d prefer a wide beam! I love the bdrm to the back, the big walk-thru closet, a shower AND a tub 💕, BIG kitchen…tons of counter space!!, the colors, the wood look thru-out, I’d look into a dinette the length of the breakfast bar and omit the stools!
Option 2 ... 65-70ft for sure and wait until a mooring becomes available, the Aqualine is spacious too - NB: I would have to have a bow with doors tho, to sit out for coffee x.

I absolutely love you two, go for the floating Palace it's amazing. Love life triumph is a gorgeous narrowboat and I can see it being snapped up in no time but like you say you are a worker and Mrs B she keeps a beautiful home so go for bigger x

Is there a clothes drying machine on board? Will you buy this very boat, or order one just like it with a few modifications? Personally I would want a double sink, and would move the dinette next to the kitchen and scoot the sofa and TV down. Then you could mount the TV on a swivel bracket so you can watch it from the deck. Is that a wood burning stove? It's a lovely boat/home. I must watch this video again. I missed seeing the refrigerator.

Back in 2017 we were told of a 12 yr waiting list at Mercia for a wb mooring, or an nb mooring you can have tomorrow. That was the deciding factor between an nb and a wb new build. Loved mercia and the bars, shops and curry house on site. Hoxton is a great choice eh👍
I would like to have heard your comments on the widebeam, but despite full volume and headphones, heard very little, Afterwards at the picnic table it was fine. Happy hunting, if you can your preferred spot, Buy it.

get yourself a bungalow you will never be boaters and Mercia is like cacoon the film and they are only interested in your money at Mercia but don't ask for a refund you will not get your money back
WOW! Well we have the opposite opinion of Mercia, its a fantastic place to live. A Bungalow really isn’t for us I’m afraid! Thanks for the comment though. Mrs B xx
Good luck with the marina berth. I also believe that what makes you guys happy is all that matters, my wife and I just moved from suburban Melbourne to the country on a couple of acres into a house that suits us perfectly. Some don’t understand our choice but we couldn’t be happier and pinch ourselves daily on how lucky we are and how happy the move has made us. Go for it 👍🇦🇺

Might as well live in a house imho, there's a lot of places you can't get to. Just been down to Llangollen and horseshoe falls, you have to lift your fenders even in a narrowboat to get into the single lock, plus don't forget double mooring fees and harder to keep warm in the winter. Nice and comfortable tho and fine for casual cruising :)
A house is not for us now. We simply love life on a boat in a marina, we know its not for everyone but for us its perfect. Mrs b xx

Oh bloody hell, absolutely beautiful, love, love, love it. Look at that shower, bigger than mine in our home. Did it only have one kitchen sink, I like two so I can rinse? One problem, only one bedroom, that isn’t much good where are we going to sleep? I must admit I’d like the narrowboat (57’) as I like the idea of 2000km of canals. But like you say Mr B, to each his own, who cares as long as YOU’RE happy, your decision in the long run. Just be happy. 💕

@@LoveLifeTriumph. I so wish that it even looked remotely like we’ll ever be able to leave Australia again in our life time. Very sweet but we’ll take the camp bed, my mum always said to never give your bed up to anyone even your parents. Love the boat so much and I’ll be on tenterhooks for the next few days. Is there a long waiting list for one like we have for new motorhomes here? If things were different I’d be saying “pick me I’ll buy your narrowboat” they’re so hard to get at the moment. Good time to sell a motorhomes here as people are paying fantastic money for them. If we sold our motorhome now we’d get about $20,000 more than what we paid for it. Great motorhome in great condition so would sell very easily. Good luck with the decision. 💕

I would go for the wide beam. It looks like the Hoxton and that's the one I would get - absolutely love the look of it.

It's all exciting! A lot of opinions are probably coming your way I'm sure. Bigger is better in my opinion. However I should think that the choice is up to the two of you naturally. We vote for the 65 to 70 foot wide beam as long as it fits your marina. We also think it should have an office.

Serious point. If you’re not looking to move it why not save costs and cut out engine gearbox snd running gear just have electrics and inverter and 240v ? Just a thought. Would save a few grand.

hiya nice people that boat is fantastic even the bathroom is bigger than mine think i could live in it, the whole layout is spot on more than enough room to swing a cat or two, dont let people try to influence you its your choice no one else do what you both want to do it is your lives sod anyone else or what they think, it is you both of you get things sorted out moorings and such what and go from there, i know you will both make the right choice without other people opinions or as the advert goes just sodding do it or words to that effect haha, take care both keep well keep safe.

It seems to me that you both really want to go for the boat you showed us. If you both want it then the only thing that needs to be sorted is the berth. If you can get the berth you want then go for it and enjoy!! If you can't get the berth - hmmm - back to the drawing board.

We were at Mercia last week to check out moorings, it looks a really lovely marina and we had a meal in the Indian restaurant there and it was lovely, really friendly people. It’s arrived at knights boat builders and had a cover of undercoat to protect her and a full spray foam last week. Fridays are exciting as we get to see each weeks progress. We should be on the canal by the end of Oct. If we are up your way again I’ll drop a message and maybe meet for a coffee sometime. Take care both of you 💕

That boat looked perfect, and I can just see you two on there, but as Mrs. B said, it's about the location. If you can't get a berth that will work then I think you'll have to look for a shorter boat with the same open space and perhaps a compromise on something. Good luck!

I agree with you both don’t compromise. ( what is back to back moorings ) so happy your boat has increased by 25% . Did all things fall into place when you bought LLT ? Take care
Thanks Christine, we agree we aren’t going to compromise with this one. Back to back mooring is where your boat is separated by only the pontoon walkway. We don’t like it because for us its not that private. Mrs b xx
In answer to your question - just do it!
Seems you two are set on a WB and it’s just a matter of time…. I’ve followed you from day 1 and met you both in Mercia….. with Stan the cocker up on the bridge…. the bike book man.. anyway I have now taken delivery of NB Snails Pace a bespoke build and you are partly to blame ( or praise..). I collected at Debdale , cruised to Braunston with Stan got the bow cover and now heading back to Crick where the boat is in the show on Smithwood stand… then back to Braunston for prank cover and onwards to Mercia where I’m moored….. the purpose of this rambling is is to say that cruising on a NB with my spaniel is fantastic and I highly recommend it before you hang up ya boots…… anyway do what fliats ya boat whilst ya still fit n well enough…… by the way I’m 66 and find it easy enough…… see ya soon …..

The WB looks nice if you are not going to cruise why not buy a lodge in mercia marina take care stay safe

Is there room for a widebeam on all canals and locks?
Yes in certain parts of the country but we wont be tasking it out, purely for life in a marina. Mrs B xx

Gorgeous boat.. but not so good for cruising 😱 and you’d have Probs with 240v appliances.. but if you stay in a marina (which I think you like and want to) then if you can fit it in then GO FOR IT!! Xx

Hi there Mr & Mrs B, the only boat that exceeds your requirements is the 70ft Abode which is the one i am getting, having two double bedrooms, i am having a fold up king size bed, which then converts into a office, this will be a bespoke mod, the bathroom is large with large shower and jacuzzi bath and large counter top, plus the bedroom has three wardrobes, one single two double, a dressing table with concealed TV, plus it leads onto a large well deck, so you can sit at a table with your morning coffee, the galley is large, and the saloon has a mantle and fire surround which is a unique feature and an under gunnel 50in Satellite TV, i have spoken to collingwood and they were happy to make small modifications as long as it fitted in with the set layouts they offer, worth watching the abode video on youtube the guy videoing the boat was Sean Edson on behalf of new and used boats. @@LoveLifeTriumph When I eventually get to Mercia, I will start showing of then, 😄 I will be able to claim the vat back as I am living on the boat, which makes a big difference, I think the base price is about 139k now, I have been saving for years for this boat, but I think it is still the best value widebeam on the market, it looks like the one you like is the Hoxton range, the monarch and Emperor start at 116k, Euro 70ft 137k Hoxton 149k Abode 148k 70ft baby euro 10ft beam 125k, the main problem is the mooring cost will increase to nearly 8k a year.
Buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it, buy it. I can lend you at least £5.00. So buy it. You can moor it near us on the River 7 and park your motorbike in my garage ha ha.

Buy this without an engine, you say you will never use it so why pay
For it. If you really just want to use this as a houseboat, without sailing
Anywhere, just have it delivered without an engine, surely this would make
A massive saving on the price ?
