It is the fundamental motivation of “ if the going gets tough, the tough get going”. @Harold Barry • If you want to cut down on civilian death & disability, you need to remember to include air defense systems. Russia continues to fire missiles from Belarus, the Black Sea and western Russia to destroy civilian infrastructure.

They have plenty of small arms. The artillery situation is getting better. But damn do they need AA SAM systems and truly modern tanks.

Recoilless weapon systems have such a concussive sound. It didn't come through here because it overwhelms the microphone completely. But trust me, if you were there, you'd feel your launch getting shaken around. I've had the experience of firing the Carl Gustav ("AT4") recoilless shoulder weapon myself. For a split second you think that something went wrong and the thing exploded instead of firing. The momentary pressure is intense in a way I cannot truly convey... I don't envy the guy who has to pull the trigger on that thing 40 times in short succession!

I hope all these brave soldiers make it. Sadly, that may not be the case. So it's a bit difficult to watch. It's not a videogame. I'd rather travel and have a beer with these guys. And I promise I will, once the missiles stop dropping. They can rent me a tent on a Crimean beach, charging full hotel price! And perhaps I can do some small other contribution as well. Unfortunately I doubt SPG is doing any difference being used in an artillery role. They are only doing this because the SPG ammo otherwise would just fill space as they fortunately have weapons that are miles ahead on the anti-tank department.

Well that should change quickly. The USA announced this evening 1 Billion Dollars Security Assistance Aid package is in the air . I think the 16 105mm Howitzers will make a difference. As well the note the USA will continue to supply Ukraine to what they need.

It's a recoilless rifle, basically a giant bazooka, not an anti-tank gun, which would have to be much larger and heavier. They were replaced in the antitank role by wire and laser guided missiles like the TOW and Javelin, but they are still very useful support weapons against light vehicles and bunkers. cheap and portable- one of these guns and a thousand rounds of ammo still costs less than a single javelin missile. So they use these to hit the light stuff and can save the javelins for the heavies.
Reminds me of my buddies dad after he got back from Afghanistan, he told us stories about how his CO encouraged humor and used it as a coping mechanism.
He wanted to help his guys to relax, tell funny stories and play practical jokes.
It definitely helped relieve the stress and anxiety.
Being shot at, witnessing horrible atrocities of war, fear of being blown up by an IED every time they drove down the road.
It helped them deal with a lot. 😎👍
