FYI about your question about how long the Harbingers have existed, it is roughly 400-500 years ago, for both Harbingers and the Fatui as a whole. They were formed by Pierro and the Tsaritsa after the Cataclysm.

Yeah I have been thinking that too. Like I remember seeing someone post "Many players have deduced that the former Knave known as 'Mother' forced the orphans to fight each other in a Battle Royale," and I'm like "Deduced? She SAID she was gonna do that, the trailer even showed us a PICTURE!"
Yes! The first line in the trailer was about competing and fighting against your brothers and sisters, then a bunch of people say "Why did Arlechinno kill Clervie??" Bro, these people are bad at interpreting and reading!

She stabbed herself so Arle didnt and wouldn't so she did it herself.
Her friend just stabbed herself. When her friend falls, The sword is stuck on her body but Allechino still hold her sword, You can see in the mirror on the ground.
Peruere sounds close to Perinheri, so Arlecchino seems a reincarnated spirit from another world...close to being a Descender. And Clervie looks like Marcotte which is more sus to me.

Her Name is Crucabena and she was the former holder of the Arlecchino/The Knave Harbinger title, was Clervies biologicial Mother and set up the House of the Hearth Orphanage and was said to be much harsher than Peruere as Director, severely punishing failure*, blackmailing Freminet for example into continuing his work with the Fatui and did not mind bolstering the House's ranks with "orphans" created as a result of their plots.
The events from this Animation also only happend around 10 or maximum 15 years ago from the current Timeline so we can assume that Peruere, the current Arlecchino, is in her mid or late 20s, maybe even really early 30s
In the original Chinese version of the animated short Peruere asks Clervie, 亲母女也会吵架吗？ Do biological mothers and daughters have fights, too? This was localized into English as "Do mothers usually argue with their daughters?" While both questions would normally have the same meaning when asked by an orphan, the injuries that Clervie was tending to combined with her initial lack of response and subsequent changing of the subject to be much happier suggests that Peruere's question meant, "You and 'Mother' fought like all of us orphans here do, even though you're actually her biological daughter?"
Clervie is also symbolized as lumidouce bell. In the part where the mother said she should've pruned the flowers long ago, not waited till it wilts. She's essentially saying that she should've gotten rid of Clervie cause she's weak("Innocent and kindness are such beautiful qualities, sadly they're also useless") hinting at Clervie too.
This all leads to the conclusion that Clervie, knowing she had no chance against her Mother and would end up succumbing to even more abuse, willingly run into Peruere´s blade during the Death battle Crucabena set up to free herself from the suffering and giving her Friend a chance to survive, and she knew she could beat her Mother. Her last words can be interpreted as "I'm sorry" for her sacrifice, "thank you" for all the years they spent together
*She was implied to be extremely cruel, as she frequently blackmailed others into submission and despised failure, inflicting "searingly painful" punishments to those who failed her missions.

@@-amel-9896 Yeees, they're fighting, but from else we know from the trailer, the kids disobeyed a direct order about something potentially important. The livestream talked about Arlecchino not being able to be too forgiving for her own childrens' sake. The fight is likely not meant to be to the death but more, "if you're going to take it upon yourself to make your own orders, you better be able to defend them."

I find it really fascinating how Arlecchino is pretty much a recent harbinger. Like Freminet-old recent, since Freminet lived through the harshness of the previous director before Father took over 🥲
