This is awesome! I love the Huey too but right now I have my hands full with my own C189 fly away issue. I've been trying to get warranty from Aliexpress seller Ace RC Store and they have just argued its all user error. I have resorted to finding information from RCGroups forums to learn others had fly away issues and how to repair replace items to get the C189 MD500 back flying. When I saw this video I was hoping you might have a similar follow up video with your fly away issue with the C189?

I just would not think to check cross wiring on any helicopter, not to mention one that cost $700.00! But now I know better, and have learned something here after watching your video's, don't take for granted that the wiring is hooked up correctly to the motors coming from the factory with the QC stamp on it, check that wiring out first before you start up that helicopter, or otherwise it may cost you in damages to the helicopter, or serious injury to yourself, period.

Although I have no interest in this bird, as a consumer of products (with my hard-earned money), I thank you for not succumbing to the financial incentive/pressure of FLY WING to remove the original video. It's called accountability & responsibility, China. I've been a fan of your videos for a while now, Saylors, and you've earned a lot more respect with this review.

Glad to see you got to maiden a second helicopter. If I was new to helicopters, I would not have known the rotational direction of the tail rotor. I would have assumed it was setup correctly, right out of the box.

I own several RTF heli's... FlyWing, Blade, mainly. Once unboxed, BEFORE I go out n start flying anything, I go over the ENTIRE vehicle! This hobby is also an investment that I spend my hard earned money on. But nothing man made is flawless. These helicopters are VERY dangerous and a preflight checklist should be completely prior to every flight as well. Your last video could have had a very different outcome, please be safe. I love your videos. 🙏👍

They are not out nearly 700 dollars. You could fix that for less than 100. You wont make it very far in this hobby without learning how to repair and setup a heli, plus by the time they have it fixed they will have learned enough about rc helicopters to avoid having a similar crash.

Free bit of good engineering and marketing advice from myself to the manufacturer.
I’ve been flying RC Heli’s for 30 years.
This machine is a good effort for $700 despite what some on here say.
The best way to improve its appeal even more and therefore sell more is to move to an anti torque system that uses traditional variable pitch tail blades instead of fixed pitch+variable speed. The rear motor can still be used for this, it doesn’t have to be driven by shaft or belt. The controller will need to be modified slightly and a servo used to drive the pitch slider.
This will stop the “bee in a jam jar” buzzing sound from the tail rotor and vastly improve the scale appeal.
I would also paint it in NATO olive or a slightly darker green.
This would be the icing on the cake for what is a lovely little Huey. Well done.

  • @monoculosofficial9934
    @monoculosofficial9934 Před 2 měsíci +3

I always try to check the controls on any RTF/BNF, but the one I ALWAYS check on helis specifically, is the tail and collective direction. Take the main props off and run it up, check the yaw control and make sure it's rotating the tail in the correct direction, then I usually give it a nudge with my foot (or just hold it in my hand for small helis) at low throttle to check the gyro is also working in the correct orientation.
You shouldn't HAVE to, but taking less than 30 seconds to do this check is worth it. There's so many things that could go unnoticed in a basic QA test, and 3 phase motors (brushless) having their wires crossed definitely wouldn't be noticeable without an initial run up.

I’m in a country where our exchange rate is 20 for $1. So this helicopter would cost me ZAR14,000.00, which is a month’s disability income. I definitely wouldn’t be polite if it happened to me.

Nice Heli. It's a temptation. For a gps helicopter it takes good pitch and elevator angles, for sport flying. And the sound yes it's awesome. Just its DFC head needs regularly a check, as I think, for its weight, the linkages from the swashplate to the main rotor grips could be a little more thicker than they are. All the load goes down to the 2 swashplate ball links. Plus the shaft of the main rotor head, its bearings and the screws holding the blades main grip, needs a regular check. Beautiful stable heli.!!

For 700 bucks I would have thought they would give these a quick factory once over, QC must have been on lunch for yours. Yeah you should probably check still, also I'm surprised the lack of yaw didn't show itself on the ground (whenever I've screwed up yaw correction direction when setting up a heli, tri ,or quad, I noticed before it took off or at least just after and got it down immediately) to be fair it's a little more difficult to see how the tail will react with a brushless tail. With a mechanical it's easy. Tricopter same. But brushless I think the best way is to learn what way it needs to correct, pull the main blades off and rev it up to see how it moves.

I'm glad to hear that it was a defect, not your flying. And companies should realize that Murphy's Law applies to them, too. Own up to the problem, and make good on fixing things with the customers, and you will have a customer for life! I never flew on a Bell UH-1, as the Canadian Armed Forces had their own version, the Bell UH-1N, aka The Twin Huey, which had two turbine engines rather than the one the UH-1 had. As much of Canada is bare open spaces, and it gets frightfully cold during the winter, we have had a policy that our military aircraft, especially those who might be involved with search and rescue, must have at least two engines, and be able to fly on one in an emergency. I had a few flights in Twin Huey's when I was in my teens in Air Cadets. I'll never forget my first flight. They loaded a bunch of us into a Huey through the big doors on both sides, had us sit and strap down. They told us all to make sure that our multi-point harnesses were tight, and then we the took off...without closing the side doors!!! After gaining some altitude, pilot pushed the collective well forward and then made a tight left hand turn. I remember looking out the left out the open door...and seeing the earth below me, and turning to the right, and seeing nothing but sky out the right door! I can say without shame I wasn't the only one pulling on the seatbelts to make sure they were *really* tight! After I got used to it, I found it exhilarating flying with nothing between you and the sky around you something you never experience in commercial flying.

Such mistakes seem quite common nowadays. Eg. RC cars that come with reversed gyros, making them nearly impossible to drive, or even simple things like diffs without grease - which will kill the joy after a few runs... More and more products come to market that promise simplicity and ease of use - resulting in more people joining the hobby, expecting that these things work out of the box. Not everyone has the knowledge on how these should work, they just want to "play"

Im a hela heli guy, I have 5 $2k to $3k 700 sized heli's and multiple others. RTF means RTF you should be able to toss a battery in it and go. That being said with heli's it is easy to avoid fatal mistakes. When its spooling on the ground only spool it to like 1/4 throttle and check rudder movement "on the ground" rotate the heli and make sure its working in the right direction. People that complained at you are just just mindless internet keyboard warriors i call them, tons of them on forums too, your a newbie to advanced heli's, this one isnt even advanced and it bit ya in the butt. It happens and is literally the only way to learn. I have many odd comments on my youtube. I read through yours. You are a nice guy. Im not!! lolol. If someone tosses shade I rip em up till they stop typing back haha. So glad you were able to keep a level head on those comments. Moving on to price I'd like to see this heli more in the $500 range. $700 is pushing the price of a fully outfitted 550 570 600 SAB goblin, Oxy 5 Meg, and so on and those are much much higher end more capable heli's. Also assisted flight comes with a lot of high end Flight Controllers, it's just most of us that have been in the game a while dont use it. I use Spirit Flybarless and it can do all that fancy auto-leveling, inverted hovering and so on all by itself. The only difference is they arent RTF you have to know it all and program it all. Flywing is good for exactly what it is. Entry level mid range heli's. They are like buying a blade/horizon heli. Great beginner heli's.
If I dont build the thing from scratch I dont check every nut and bolt. People that say they do this dont check every single one I dont care what they say. No one I mean NO ONE takes apart a RTF or RTR 100% and checks 100% of the nuts/bolts. If they did they wouldnt be buying a RTF. Normal heli's like what I have you touch and build every single bolt, thats different you have to lol. If you dont have to, sorry those people are lying they did not 100% disassemble their RTR's, they just checked all the bolts they could see, and sorry man if your gonna state about checking bolts you better check them all if you are so high and mighty to make that comment lol.

As a long time FW user, I can sure you with every bone in my body, that you are not an idiot. What you experienced is typical FW. The customer is the R&D and the QC all wrapped into one - on your dime. The Huey V4 with more realistic olive drab paint, red tailplanes, and optional 3D printed scale flybar stabilizer and drag links as well as convex blades should be on the market soon. Probably next month or so. If you are flying in GPS mode, make sure you know how to switch to 3D mode quickly in case you lose a satellite. Remember, its connecting to the CCP's Beidou system, not USA.

The most important thing to do when starting up a heli, be it new or not, is to get it light on the skids, and GRADUALLY move each control to ascertain the correct movement. You will soon see if it’s right or wrong BEFORE you commit to take off. I know an RTF should be connected up properly from the factory, but you’ve proved this is not 100% true, and you were very lucky no one was hurt.

Saw the original heli flight. There was obviously something set up incorrectly out of the box. I did not comment as it is very difficult to determine issues with a model unless one is there in person. I was also awaiting the followup you guys almost always do. You don't need another armchair heli pilot making uninformed remarks. It is really bad form for a company to request you take a video down rather than reaching out. Flywing and/orBanggood should have contacted you imediately to troubleshoot the problem and arranged a replacement. Overall it would have been in their best interest. Glad you finally got one that is set up correctly. I have a standard Flywing 450L on order and am definitely going to check it out thoroughly before the maiden. Thanks for the vids.

Regardless, lesson learned, always remember, if it's man made it's bound to give you issues. So yes I would get in the habit of bench testing connections and servo's and structure before flying, especially a helicopter and if no one realizes how deadly these can be there are actual accident reports of people and main rotor blades colliding and sadly caused a few gruesome fatalities. Never take a manufacture at it's word on quality no matter the name and do your due diligence and totally inspect and do preflight inspections. I would think a company would be glad to know of any issues with there product especially if it's a product that could impede on safety for the consumer.

You guys weren't the first to have a vid of that heli with a maiden flight failure due to a manufacturing defect. Flywing knows that I'm sure. I have a lot of experience with Flywing. In fact I have that same Huey V3, heli. It had a bad esc right out of the box , that made mine spin out of control just like that first one did. I also have the airwolf that came with a gps module that kept losing connection. Good thing I can fly 3D or it would have crashed with a less experienced or new pilot. . Where I live in FL it over $1000 for those heli's. Good review though. Atleast the public knows to be careful with Flywing now.

Thanks! Great question! So to be clear, not everything on our channel is sent to us. We do buy things, both full price and sometimes discounted. Having said that, some time within the second year or so we had a couple companies interested in us. These days, it seems like almost anyone can get the attention of some company. A regular schedule helps. Personally, I think being family friendly helps. Most companies don’t want to limit their audiences. It works for some CZcamsrs to be “edgy” or whatever, but they really shoot themselves in the foot with that decision. You’ll never make everyone happy though, including companies (unless you are a sell out) and you’ve gotta be okay with that. The not making everyone happy part, not being a sell out. I truly believe anyone can do what we do, if not better. Just takes dedication and passion. And time. We are eternally grateful that people chose to watch our videos and support us, and I will always do anything I can to return the favor. Thank you! 🙏💯😎⚓️

It's all about how you handle it. Having the information out there should save them money by not needing to replace any other mis-wired units. Granted it is probably extremely unlikely but QA an always be improved from it. Hopefully they took it as a good learning experience to improve all their products. I would certainly by one (I have all fixed wing but like Heli's) and know what to look for before first flight.

Every flight, I check the throw directions of every surface. If it's a helicopter as large as this and it was my first flight I would hold it over my head and throttle it up just a bit to verify everything. I have had a few accidents and learned that the best thing to do is verify all surfaces move in the correct direction and that includes a brief throttle up with the model in hand or on the ground before take off. I have installed the wrong direction prop on some things, I have accidentally reversed servos and brushless wires. You don't have to spend 20 minutes doing this. If you get used to it, you know everything is working within a minute before flight. I helped a beginner land his airplane when he installed the ailerons in reverse, and taught him how to do this before every flight. He will never forget that day. If you have an airplane with dual aileron servos and flip the wires when you install the wings you know exactly how easy this can happen. But any model ready to fly or not, please take 1 minute and verify the controls are doing the correct thing. I have saved many accidents by doing this simple thing. And a brief throttle up with model in hand often helps as well. It's very easy to accidentally reverse a control surface. That said the first model smoked... that is not something checking the surface would have helped with. It's never good when smoke is coming out! Good on you for keeping the video up!

I'll agree that you "Shouldn't" have to dig too deep with an RTF R/C before first flight, all that should have been done at the factory. That being said, if you had a RTF plane you would do a quick flight control deflection check before takeoff, and the same with a helicopter, you would check left and right, fore and aft swashplate. If it had a mechanical tail rotor you would check that the blades are moving in the right direction, problem is you can't do that with electric tail rotors. With electric tail rotors you have to get them spun up with the helicopter still on the ground and move the rudder stick and see if the tail shifts in the correct direction. With small helis you can hold them in your hand and do that check, not so much when they're this big. Bottom line is there is no excuse for the factory letting something like this out of the door.

I bought two Flywing H1 flight controls to put on TWO similar sized helicopters. Both still haven’t flown since the manual is too general and misses a lot of critical setup information. Just like your Huey, both have spinning tail problems. I’ve redone the setup for both at least 20 times and applied the tips the Facebook group and CZcams tutorials. I’ve narrowed it down to to the FW H1 gyro not correcting for the main blades wash. Going to give one more try and then return them if it doesn’t work. Good for you for calling out THEIR bad quality control.

Regardless of whether or not the model is RTF, YOU are responsible for flight safety. That extends to ensuring that the model is capable of safe flight. I personally do not trust that somebody on minimum pay, who in all probability isn’t a model pilot would be capable of assembling MY model to a satisfactory standard. Strip and check every screw, nut and all connections etc for security. I’ve had RTF helis where the thrust bearings in the head have been assembled backwards and have been missing threadlock in critical locations.

As far a internal wires that are switched in production well that's there problem !!! If the company advertises RTF then something happens its the manufactures problem, especially when this has happened to multiple customers. If a manufacture is not competent in there RTF products, then don't list it as RTF !!!!

Here’s a tip from a 30 year flier. Don’t be so rushed and concentrate! During your spin up, go slower before lift off, testing your tail rotor fan pressure and direction of throw first will tell you if your tail rudder pressure is correct for left stick, left turn or left stick right turn. Don’t be so anxious to impress your YT 😊audience! Just be satisfied with improving your heli skills.

We all make mistakes. Even stuff that passes Quality Control can have issues slip through the cracks. The lack of testing and leaving it to the consumer is a subject that some people either don't want to face, or get really defensive when you bring up their brand or whatever they happen to be selling at the time. $700 for an RC is a lot to me, but it could be "cheap" to someone else. I'd be double checking everything before any flight time. It's also a heli, the one thing that is constantly trying to kill itself in flight.. so triple checks! 😁

I stopped doing that awhile ago, and all my new helicopters have flown fine on the first flight so far. The Blade 330 S is my newest one, and it flew good. In the past, sometimes the older gyros would mess up and the helicopter would spin around backwards sometimes, and the training gear would help to get it landed without it tipping over. That is too bad that tail motor was spinning the wrong way. Not good. Thanks for doing these videos.

A heli that size needs to be thoroughly checked out, with the blades removed.
Always know where your throttle hold is. Mine is the upper right for all of my models.
The biggest heli I've ever flown was my Trex 250. I never actually got it in the air and sold it before I tore it up. That thing was scary, and it's considered mini.
I'm an intermediate heli pilot, and the biggest ones I regularly fly are my old Blade 130Xs, they're about 125 grams. It gets scary quickly if one of the servos acts up or the tail starts grinding, so I'm always ready to hit the throttle hold and dump it in as cleanly as possible.
I'd also recommend spooling it up while secured somehow to a nice clean area, like a workbench and some boards thru the skids clamped down, to check everything, even with the blades off it can still kick on you, and you dont want that.

That seems to me that maybe they are not a company to deal with. I know that it's you tubers like you two that makes my decision about whether or not to purchase a product.
    Especially if it's a RTF.
