Stock RS3 clocked 11.98 sec time on 1/4 mile. RS5 did 12.0sec in C63/M4/RS5 race on carwow so basically on par with performance for 20k less.

I would like to see a comparison between a M340i and a M340d. Both wagons or both sedans, it does not matter. I know there is a little difference in HP figures between them (34 HP), but an impressive one when it comes to torque (200 Nm).
It would be interesting to see how does the torque compare to higher revs and a bit extra HP.

@@harshadpillay4806 higher torque just means it has more horsepower lower down the Rev range, good off the line but high horsepower will win since torque is the measurement of horsepower multiplied by rpm.
Having seen this, the result was as expected but honestly I’m not sure the RS5 is worth £30k more than the M440i.
it's because BMW is newer and Audi is a face-lift that didn't change power (444bhp) from the previous version
0.5 seconds is really a big difference in a 1/4 mile time. Plus BMW is brand new. RS cars have always been expensive though.
It’s not! Imo the rs5 needed a twin turbo v8 unit. Especially when competing with the likes of that new m4 and the Mercedes’ 🥲now an non m model is making that poor RS look a bit goofy.😫
In the US the price difference is only $14K. I wonder why the UK is so different.
Just looked it up and the M440i starts at €56K, not €42K. 42K is for the 420i. So price difference is €16K. Very misleading Mat!

There is no way an M440I is 42k. The M440i models (coupe, Gran coupe and convertible) are made to compete with the S5 (coupe, sport back and convertible) and all are priced over £50k when new.
M4's are made to compete with the s5's. M4 competion are made to compete with rs5's. M440i are a completely different category

@@Kouroupettos243 Just look up the numbers, the S5 and M440i basically have the same power with 350 to 370 HP. It's just that Audi is retarded and the S5 is only available as a TDI aka Diesel in Europe which doesn't make any sense. However, in the US for example you get the S5 with a 3.0 TFSI petrol engine.
And besides, this BMW gen has just been revised and their performance numbers are false while the current Audi gen is from like 2017 or even 2016.
The 4 series Gran Coupe starts from £42k for a 4 cylinder with 182ps. The M440i starts from nearly £56k.
@@Kouroupettos243 hell no, M4 is the manual version of the Competition, and it has 480hp. M4 Comp is the automatic version, having 510hp. M440i is the “light m” having 374 hp and comparing to the S5, which has 350. Audi doesn’t sell a manual RS5 so the non comp M4 is the one without rivalry here.

These cars shouldn’t be pitched against one another. BMW does well against the RS but would like to have seen it up against the S5.
Given the difference in weight, the RS should have stopped much quicker than the BMW.
BMW M340i v Audi S4 v AMG E53 v Volvo S60 Polestar, 340i annihilated the s4. M3/4 does the same to the RS4/5 on dry road.

The m440i gran coupe has the B58 engine, which has a single twin scroll turbo, not twin turbos as stated here.
Comparing a BMW M performance model against an Audi RS product doesn't make much sense.
M performance competes with Audi "S" models.
Full "M" models compete with Audi RS.
The relatively close race goes to show how good BMW m-performance models and the b58 engine are.

I had a some good drag races with an RS5 in my tuned C43...,;beat him in a couple races . It's on my channel if you want to watch.
@@ahemgee9542 of course a tuned C43 will best a stock RS5, a stock C43 is about as quick as a stock B9 S4/S5 (of course I’m talking about the 3.0TFSI, not the TDI).
And the Audi doesn’t struggle against a less powerful car, Bmw underrated their power figures and people think that they don’t need as much power to be as quick. In reality they make more power, they aren’t special in any way lol, the cars in the video have the same transmission.
@@PapiAndrey I’d imagine the RS5 probably has a better ZF transmission than the 440i does it not? The M3 also uses an 8 speed ZF like the rest of the BMWs use but it’s a different model that’s built to withstand higher power. ZF makes incredible transmissions.
@@ahemgee9542 eh irrelevant if tuned. I've a stage 2 tuned (conservative tune at that) RS5 pushing about 550HP and 750NM along with a whole raft of other suspension/chassis mods. Happy to race your C43😬. Even the G80 M3/M4 ain't beating my tuned RS5 as per your logic.

As an owner of a B8 S5, i can say that the newer audis dont do it for me. They are like the softest version of what you can buy these days. They look nice but thats about it!
I think that is Audis target market now. They aren’t the fastest like the first gen rs7, but they are quick and comfortable instead

Funny that you say that, Bmw has become soft and numb, they appeal to the luxury market more these days. Drive their cars to the older ones back to back if you can, or back to back with the equivalent Audi or Mercedes.
Mercedes is leading in terms of feel and feedback, what Bmw was kinda known for back in the day and they became popular because of it.
They’re still sporty, but these days they aren’t as much as a drivers car like they used to be
@@PapiAndrey i would have to agree. I owned a 1992' 318i, 6 speed back in the day before my S5. I also got to drive a e39 M5 that was also stick shift. The steering and handling of an older M car is just unmatched. Not to mention the quality of the interiors. They just felt more authentic, the leather was distinct, engines sounded better too. Its just the sad truth for most brands these days, its all about capturing the casual customer now. I do also agree with you about Merc. They are leading and continue to set (mostly) good examples, but then again they were always sort of in their own level compared to Bimmers and Audis.

It’s hard to be disappointed with either the RS4/RS5, M3/M4, C63, I mean they all have something that some customer values and I think it’ll come down to what the buyer wants. And even then, you always have the aftermarket to help you achieve what you want so it’s hard to complain these days.
And I also agree with what you said about the E39 M5, I know what you’re talking about and I that is one of, if not my favorite sedan of all. Maybe it doesn’t shine in being the quickest or the best handling (as modern hot hatches would rip it apart on paper), but the overall product is something I lust after. What a sport sedan should be!

@@hatergeneral4298 Nope. The M440i gets 22mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined while the Rs5 gets 18mpg city, 25 highway, and 21 combined.
@@hatergeneral4298 Well this M440i has mild hybrid and if you aren't in the sportiest settings you can't disable START STOP system, those new turbo engines from BMW are also very effective. So I think it would be better, than this RS5 at gas milage. But this is not a point of this video. Especially when these Audis are a bit outdated these days. I am excited to see new RS4/5 that can be better competitor of BMW. Still I am pretty sure RS can't handle any M competitor expect SUV supidities which are just to look stylish and not about driving experience.

I would like to see RS5 evolution 2011 to todays current modle dragrace. For me it looks like they did not improve that much, compared to BMW and MB. Especially the 450hp which they force to keep for what reason ever. MB and BMW did better from my piont of view, despite I own a RS5.
BMW did start with AWD so sure they did improve. Audi did go form V8 to V6 that can be good and bad.
@@P_K97 Audi don't want to compete in races with them. They are more interested in technology like safety systems future things. You can even see that there. A brand new 2021 m440 doesn't look newer than a 2016 RS5 says all.
BMW just got it man. As a Lexus fan even their reliability factor is creeping up on ours while also being some of the fastest vehicles on the market

A lot of RS3 and TTRS are turned up to over 1000hp. In the top class both BMW and Audi can easily get up to 1000 hp.
We can see the differences in the company by looking at how the car is vs it's potential.
The stock RS3 is not anything crazy. The possibilities it have is something crazy. I think that the 5 cylinder engine isn't even fair 🤣
In my opinion audi wants to keep the tradition. All of their engines still sound amazing even they have stuff like rev limiters and shit. It is better then necessary downgrading the engine because it makes to much shit 🙄
I hope that Audi will soon start to bring in the technology from racing to the usual cars. I love crazy stuff like the Q7 V12. They are quite good in le mans still and I do not se any crazy hybrids 🤔
They are now even on dakar and as a first hybrid car they are even winning(some parts of the race) with clear petrol engines.
It is quite clear that the thing audi cares the most about is comfort and safety. If they would bring the race technology to the usual cars that will probably be a bit to much for the competition 🤔

If the RS5 were to race an M4 X-drive (which is what it should be competing against), it would've gotten absolutely dusted. If anything, it shows BMW is better.

It shows that M-lite cars are becoming very good cars in terms of performance. Even the M550i is keeping up with the RS6 and that E63s vs M850i vs Tesla Model 3 that they did a few years ago. The M3 and M4 X-drive will destroy that RS5 Sportback.
@@Heinrichrhode1997 well the thing is the s5 on its own gets to 510 hp and well over 600 ft pound torque with just an 900 ecu and tcu tune audi tends to detune their cars cause if they don’t it would be stealing away from Porsche sales and higher model audi sales
Ps these are dyno numbers not measured at the crank just that upgrade gets the s5 to do 0-60 in 3.1 seconds

Hey Matt, I found a trick in my 2016 S4 to bypass the rev limiter.
When you put the car in neutral (it may need to be rolling ever so slightly) you can rev it all the way to redline!
Idk if it works in newer models, but might be worth playing with next time to get that juicy sound clip.

That B58 inline 6 twin scroll Turbo engine is arguably BMW's greatest achievement. Whether in the m240i or the X5 it's just fantastic. As a DD, it's surge of low end torque is awesome with almost no lag whatsoever. Once I get rid of my Golf R, the F22 m240i is a must-have for me. One of my favorite cars to drive.

Considering I just made the normal person's equivalent of this exact choice three months ago between the new 4-series 2door or an Audi A5, I went with the Audi. I don't care if the RS5 (or my A5) is slower by an imperceivable amount in real world use, even at the M4/RS5 level of performance difference nothing would make me spend even two thirds as much on the BMW. At least I won't get sick all over the dash everytime I unfortunately catch a glimpse of this new generation's front end in a reflection.

In my honest opinion the models are comparable because of body styles but not so much as actual performance level wise. We all know that multiple digit M vehicles aren't as powerful or tuned as single digit M models (i.e. M340 vs M3) and I feel that RS5 is the top of the line for Audi sports performance for that vehicle where as M440i is closer to the entry level for the 4 series. Due to the nature that there is no M4 gran coupe although I wish there was its safe to say there really isn't a real matchup in the bmw stable thats in the same weight class as the rs5

4 series G26 is new Generation(2020), rs5 F5 is pregeneration (2016). F83 440xi would be much slower than G26 M440.
New 440i even beats old m2 competition. Around real 400hp and more modern in every aspekt.

The US version M440i would do 12.2-12.3 seconds on the quarter mile. It would also do better on the roll too. It's more powerful than the one in Europe and the UK

Someone's made a boo-boo....or you need a new researcher. You've given the price of a base engine 4 series M-sport Gran Coupe (a 420i) not a M440i. I though when you announced it at £42k THAT'S A BARGAIN... (until I paused the video to check I wasn't mis-hearing it and to glance at the BMW website). I'm sure it's a genuine mistake and there doesn't need to be any more of a price gap between the two cars even with the M440I starting at £56k. Is the RS5 £15k worth more than the M440i?
Was expecting the results we witnessed (still a good video though). The Audi software engineers still not quite as good as their BMW counterparts when it comes to coding the gearboxes, with Audi still suffering ponderous downshifts. They're supposed to have improved them with the facelift models (2020/2021?) but considering both manufacturers inherently use the same ZF transmission Audi still have some work to do.

It was easy to predict the results before watching this video cuz you did a drag race a while ago between m340i vs RS4 so it’s pretty much same thing here. Conclusion is simple - doesn’t worth additional £30K for Audi so I would buy BMW for sure

You can avoid the soft rev limiter. Put gearbox in Drive, release the break pedal, start moving slowly, then put gearbox in Neutral and Rev! Doing this on my Audi S6 I can rev my 4.0 TFSI to the Red Line.
This race is unfair to BMW. You should use an M3 or M4 xdrive to battle against this RS5.

The BMW i4 M50 from a few weeks ago would have made for an interesting comparison against the Audi. 5K cheaper than the Audi, with a slightly faster 1/4 mile time.

My M340i xDrive fastest 1/4 mile completely stock including exhaust/intake/etc is 12.2. 12.6 is a non-launch control time. This M440i was also xdrive. That 12.6 was a bad time.

In Sweden, according to each manufacturers website, the RS5 starts from 74k GBP, and the BMW M440i (with xDrive) starts from 55,5k GBP, converted from SEK to GBP. And I guess that the starting specs of the models can be different from in the UK.
