here is a very special and healthy Breakfast recipe from North Malabar (Kerala). Kalada Pongichathu.. Made with Chick peas and Rice.. Just try and enjoy the taste..!
Ingredients:-
Chickpeas - 1 cup
Basmati Rice - 1 1/2 Cup
Water to cook Chick peas 2 1/2 Cup
water to cook rice - 2 Cup Chickpea water + 1 1/2 Cup Water
Coconut oil - 2 tbsp.
Onion - 1 medium no.
red chilly - 3 nos
curry leaves
Grated Coconut - 3/4 Cup

Your method of preparing this dish is different. I have heard that this is prepared after dry frying rice and then cooking it and the remaining process and ingredients are same and the dish will be more tasty.

Sorry to say, but which part of this is healthy? I mean, rice is full of carbohydrates, and chickpeas have carbohydrates as well. Having this for breakfast is bad for health when India is booming with diabetes.

Basmati rice is a healthy option because it is low in GI and carb
India is booming with diabetes because people buy take away at drop of the hat. Have too much processed food, chips, snacks, sauces etc. The uncontrolled unhealthy diet compounded by lack of exercises. No place to walk. Plonking in front of dramas serials useless idiot box programs.
If you have healthy home cooked food 9 out of 10 times no problem will be there
Rice is healthier than wheat especially the red rice using in Kerala and the parboiled verities of rices . Rice is gluten free and can be consumed by any person who is intolerant to other grains especially wheat, oats etc. And red rice and red rice flakes are advised to diabetics. Every one knew that Chick peas are a good source of protein for vegetarians and are good source of iron and white chick peas are used for making humus. So please don’t give wrong information
