His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, arrives in Manila as he officially commences his State Visit to the Philippines on April 21-22, 2024.
The visit, upon the invitation of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., is considered historic as this marks the first time that a current Amir will be visiting the country in over a decade to further strengthen the existing robust ties between the Philippines and Qatar.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), His Highness the Amir’s state visit is expected to provide a platform for the two nations to exchange views on commitments and bilateral issues that will enhance the existing cooperation in areas of partnership anchored on trust, mutual confidence and shared values.
During the visit, His Highness the Amir is set to meet with President Marcos Jr. in Malacañan Palace to discuss various agreements and measures that aim to elevate trade and investments, including further expansion of common interests across various sectors.
This also highlights a broad range of thematic areas, which include climate change, education, tourism, labor, agriculture and energy security as well as economic, commercial and technical cooperation, among others.
Likewise, the two leaders are expected to reaffirm people-to-people ties and prioritize the welfare of Filipinos living in Qatar. As of the latest, there are around 270,000 Filipinos working in various sectors and industries who have contributed immensely to the economic vibrancy and dynamism of the peninsula.
