- In this drag race, we take three popular pickup trucks to the racetrack to find out which one is the fastest. These full-size pickups are three of the most powerful around, obviously excluding the off-road-specialized Ram TRX. Can the F-150 PowerBoost with its hybrid engine outrace the gas-powered Sierra and Ram 1500? Which truck has the best 0-60 time? Are the results the same in 2WD and 4WD? Elana Scherr, John Adolph and Ryan ZumMallen answer these questions and more in this exciting pickup-truck drag race.

Did the race go the way you expected? What should we race next?
The guy in the F150 was taking a nap every time on go lol
Expected the F150 to do even better I believe if you had a good start with it from my experience is none of the other trucks should come close
Take dragsters off road. Makes about as much sense as drag racing trucks.
Change drivers. Sleepy Joe sucks.
If you brake torque and build boost it wouldn't even be close its been done on many other shows
Anyone else annoyed with the F150 drivers reaction time 🤣🤣
Talk about anxiety...
They did it so other cars wouldn't get too embarrassed.
Turbo Lag.
Take the turbo off that little 3.5 and it makes jack shit in power.
@@googleaccount2637 negative actually these ecoboosts shine the most out of the dig the hit their max HP at a MUCH lower RPM then the V8’s. That’s what makes it more annoying that the guy driving the Ford claimed it takes “no skill” when clearly he was to incompetent to “mash” it
@@michaelmcqueen9177 what i meant was a 3.5 NA stands no chance against the V8s.
Turbo a V8 for real powah
The guy in the Ford was Sleeping,, twice.
That or there is a little torque delay with the hybrid system to keep everything smooth. I hope the engine wasn't off when they launched and even if there wasn't, there will be some turbo lag as well which obviously wasn't a problem was once it was rolling (and therefore more exhaust flow to spin up the turbos). It would be interesting how much faster it would be from a start if they brake torqued it.
@@db4z09 the hybrid part was added to eliminate the lag. Dude was either off, or sleeping.
He’d go hungry if he drag races for a living.
Agreed. The guy in the Ford can’t drive. You need to brake torque to about 2000 rpm.
He is used to a Prius.
The Ford driver has a reaction time like my grandmother ... ugh.
just shows how much faster the Ford is
she might be a braket racer, but she failed to brake boost that Ford to get a good lunch
Lol right
@Sleeper 1776 No its not. my 2019 F150 will beat those other trucks with zero issue. The dude cant drive.

Should have the done 3 trials with each person driving a separate truck every time because the guy in the Ford is slower than molasses.
It’s the truck and it make the driver look slow too
@@titoavila7313 It was not the truck, have you driven a powerboost the things are rockets and are much faster than a 6.2 chevy or a ram by a long shot. The ford has 10 more horsepower and 110 lb ft of torque on the 6.2

Better than being asleep at the wheel. Only someone my age will get it.
@@googleaccount2637 it’s a drag race you brake boost it,my Toyota hybrid lets you brake boost, and he still left late either way .
@@googleaccount2637 It's not turbo lag bro, that's just sleeping at the light
@@googleaccount2637 Even the people in the video made fun of the Ford driver for being asleep at the wheel. That Ford is nasty in sport. As it clearly outruns the other 2 trucks clearly when it's actually moving. It literally pulled on GMC all the way to the end even with the driver not being alive on the start. It's people like yourself who clearly haven't driven one who don't understand how insanely fast those fords are. Those trucks have almost no turbo lag. We aren't in the 90's where that's a serious issue anymore.
That lady's reaction time is really good. Should have put her in the F150.
For the ram being the heaviest and less hp. Kept up pretty good . Give that ram a diablo tune. And it'll stay right with them! And without a tune , just get the ram trx to hand them both their ass ! Lol

i had a 2015 ford f150 with the 2.7l ecoboost, and it was faster than my 2019 ram 5.7l without etorque. did this ram have the etorque?
I drive a BMW X5M and rented an F150 EcoBoost on my travels and let me tell you, those things are quick. That driver definitely fell asleep because I was smoking cars at the intersection.
Even my 1st gen ecoboost pulls on other vehicles, I can only imagine these newer generations

The ecoboost is way overrated. I test drove one and I found it had less throttle response then my 6.2 Silverado. The 6.2 is the best truck engine, period

I'm just asking what are the gear ratios in the trucks that makes a big difference
The GMC is the best looking of all three trucks.
not with those wheel wells.
Terrible launch by the F150 in the first two races. MPG loop next. It's a full hybrid, and the Ram is a mild hybrid, and the GM has DFM, so got to test mpg.
They weren't using the Etorque on the ram.....

How you pring GMC Denali with RAM 1500 ?
The Wright comparison is with RAM 2500
Get that guy out of the ford, my God you can't react fast enough
What good is a drag race without a gear ratio line up. The ratios vary quite a bit and can have drastic affects on the outcome, more so than engine displacement.
second.
Did you have access to a ram with etorque?
Good to see Elana Scherr. Always enjoyed her column in Hot Rod.
The F150 was a Platinum trim level, so it's the heaviest F150 configuration. Run a base model Powerboost in the same races, and it will perform even better.
Editor: Pls less bad comedy/comments and more content.
Was the eTorque hemi used or was this the regular V8? I have the one with eTorque and it seems faster than the ram you guys used.
E torque does nothing for racing lol
John needs to learn how to brake torque and build boost on a turbo charged truck. And maybe leave on GO. The F150 would have easily won every race.
The hybrid system will not allow the F-150 to gain any advantage brake torquing. TFL covered this already.
I've driven the new F150, I know for a fact this truck will out run them
@@davidporter7051 the Ford Explorer has the same hybrid system, I promise you that if you boost launch it in sport mode it will go like a raped ape

The Ram did pretty decent considering the Hemi's age, although I suspect it had an advantage have the smaller/lighter 18" wheels. Most GM trucks have the 5.3 by far, would like to see a race with that truck.
I had a 5.3 and only lost by a truck at the very most... now my 6.2 beats the ram by 3/4 trucks 0 to 100 mph

I've always been a Ford Guy, though, this test even shocked me. The Batterie ( Hybrid feature ) make it heavier.
Actually it’s lighter than the previous year 3.5 believe it or not but driving just really sucked ass
My bad it’s 230 lbs heavier than the regular 3.5 I take that back
@@garrettgramlich9424 comparing the current trucks I think it is heavier than that my powerboost is 300lbs heavier than my brother's 5.0 and he has a higher trim. My truck is 5500 lbs, his is like 5280.
The dude driving the Ford suck! Should of won every race. Had no reaction time at all. 😔
It was traction control and turbo lag holding it back after it was in 4wd it did better but still not amazing cuz its a ford
Don't think so. Not if the driver of the GMC knew what he was doing. Sport mode and Auto 4WD. GMC with the 6.2 bad boy is a beast.
@@rileyham9058 Not traction control or turbo lag, did you forget this is a hybrid ? It being a hyrbird literally negated the turbo lag from happening as you get instant tq from the electric motor, there is no such thing as a turbo lag or delay at this point nor has any Ford vehicle had this much delay in terms of launch and turbo lag, that's just a stupid exaggeration. The guy slept at the light, as simple as that, as he even admits in the video. Also excuse me, but for it to catch up to the denali after having that big of a late reaction start is heavily impressive, if the driver could actually launch worth a damn it would have gapped both other trucks in that second race and in the first and last race it would win by even more distance than it already did
I love how all the races are in the 5000 ft or above areas.
Why you didn’t get the limited version to be a fair competition
Not a very evenly matched test I was impressed that the ram always got the initial jump.
For the guy in the F150. 4 auto is not the same as 4 Hi 🤷🏽♂️ 4 auto is RWD until it senses slip. He should’ve found that 4 hi option
Will actually be slower off the line in 4 high since there is some powertrain power loss due to driving the front wheels. Since the pavement is dry, the rears are going to hook just fine
@@zipzap4706
If driver is not a complete tool, he would know that best take of on turbo car is achieved when brake boosting. 4 auto would be best setting, as if you were to brake boost, 1st gear would be pure tire smoke in RWD.
Try the new 5.0 vs the rest please!
So, V8 N/A vs V8 N/A vs V6 Turbo+EM? Apple vs apple pls.
Best comment, "no skill involved". The Ford guy has the slowest reaction time I've ever seen.
The F150 is bar far the fastest truck. I just don’t understand the drivers.... have you ever done a drag race in anything?
Forget The drivers look at The Times when they put the Trucks On the clocks 1/4 mile ford 14.0 Chevy 14.2 both at 97 mph The for being turbocharged and with an electric motor Says a lot for the power of the Chevy.
@@bigj4295 No, two tenths = two truck lengths. You need to go check out the performance comparison that Car&Driver did. In their test the Ford was also 0.2 tenths quicker but that wasn't the whole story. The Ford is a full second quicker to 100mph than the GMC. Next, you only mentioned half of the equation. You must also consider weight. The Ford is also heavier than the GMC. The panoramic moonroof and hybrid gear on the Ford weighs a lot my friend.

As soon as I seen the Dodge Ram lose I clicked off the video
I actually think the carbon fiber bead hurt the GMC as it lessened the weight over the rear tires and thus less traction. But it did not sound like any of them launched the truck so it probably didn't matter.
Why didn't you use the 6.2L ram pickup???
Maybe because they don't make a 6.2L Ram...If you're talking about the TRX that has a 6.1L Supercharged V8 in it, but it is NOT a regular pickup. The 5.7L is Ram's top tier engine in the regular pickups which is why its the one they used here.
That Sierra is way sharp. Think it's the nicest looking truck in the segment. All I want from Santa is the SLT version.
It's mind boggling that Edmunds would employ these people to do truck comparisons...
I'd be more interested in the EcoDiesel but I love the 5.7 but it's best used in FCA's cars.
Did anybody else notice the power to weight ratio is messed up
The freakin panzy driving the f150 has the reaction time of corpse.
Ford and GM duking it out while Ram eating glue in the corner.
To make the 'races' fair, three attempts, changing vehicles after each go. Reaction times do play into the results as well as vehicle capabilities. One other point of interest in this modern world is fuel use. Flooring a V8, has a tendency to guzzle fuel, so, yes, the races are over a short distance, but some have a tendency to drive as if they're in a race all the time. Extrapolating the fuel brain would be an interesting side bar.
I always drive my 2018 f150 with v8 engine like I stole it and recently installed a tune which makes it even harder on gas

The GM looks like a ripoff picasso painting that had hot coffee spilled on it otherwise known as garbage. You're just trying to use a straw man argument because the 6.2L got its ass handed to it. The ONLY thing it has over the Ford is sound, and for that, there's the 5.0L.
