UNDISCOVERED VAN LIFE PARADISE (The Baltics)
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 16. 07. 2022
- A wedding ceremony started at our parking spot! We visit a special place that is ~350 million years old! Tom goes foraging whilst we wild camp in the forest by the lake. We dig out something from our garage that we've been missing out on for a long time! This could be a game changer for giving us more alone time haha!

Who are we? đđŒââïž
We're Tom and Iz, who live and travel in our van La Bamba. We love nature and try to spend as much time as possible wild swimming, hiking and being outdoors!
You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works!
How did we end up here?! đ âź
We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring.
Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden jobs, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey!
Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a CZcams channel.
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do CZcams full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. If you're new around here you can check out our previous videos; we've spent the last year exploring Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, France, Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Finland and Estonia. We completed a 42 daily vlog challenge, so check out that playlist if you missed it!
âą ARE WE MAD?!
We are now making an entire lap around Europe and will be taking you along with us. We are uploading on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Subscribe and click the bell icon so you don't miss an update!
Our message on our channel is to inspire others to do what they love as life is too short! We love living simply, freely with less stuff but more time!

Iâve dipped into a few of the other vanlife vlogs, but none of them is as watchable and relatable as yours. You both make us feel weâre really on the journey with you. Love from Bristol.
They are sweethearts aren't they đ„°đ„°
Totally agree đ
I watch Liam and Janine (those happy days) religiously I have just discovered your channel so
I subscribed and now I am binge watching all your videos .
The environment is very interesting...and the scenery is very beautiful...the green trees are quite lush...and many interesting places....The lake is very cool...very beautiful....
Itâs been great following you guys touring the BalticsâŠ.I did a cycling trip there a few years ago and itâs such a lovely (and largely unvisited) place !
my grandfather was from Lithuania. thanks for the tour. such beautiful woodsy environment.
Love it.
They go to sleep early to hide away from the mosquitoes!
Isabel is so funny, cheerful and sweet.
She always put a smile on my face.
The filming crew dropped the camera and fainted at the sight of Isabell in a bikini. It went over my head because I appreciate the personality over the bikini.
Your growth is testimony to your great content. Your daily vlog has paid off in more ways than one. Your vlogs have improved no end. Norway helps, but its great to watch. Even the clown in the bloopers đ€Ł. She's a darling đ§Ą
Mosquitoes have been replaced by butterflies may that be the mantra for your whole trip and for your whole life you should make it into a poster and send it on Etsy have a great day guys
Running out of the lake reminds me of a dog exiting water and then the shake off, where as Tom he does his more leisurely walk out, watching where he is stepping. Ah to be young and care-free with slim bodies to show us oldies.
Limerick beat kilkenny in the all Ireland championship today brilliant game and a must watch,Tom. Enjoy your adventure, take care.
Ireland also beat newzealand in the rugby!!! Absolute legends! I love these GAA updates in the comments, will have to find a stream somewhere, thank you
I was in Riga last May. I enjoyed it a lot! Great food. Cool coffee shops. Nice people. I would drop recommendations, but best you discover on your own.
Mermaids, vans and beautiful countries, this channel should have 100 thousands subscribers in no time đ
Haha, you know how to put a smile on our face. Thanks so much JG thatâs so nice to hear
Love these videos. Always an enjoyable watch.
Every park should have a seesaw like that!!!!
I would have loved this as a kid (and as an adult), it was the funnest park equipment ever!
Glad the mozzies have thinned out a bit. Some lovely spots to park up in, fresh water seems to be ok, have you water purifying tablets? Lovely to see the the Baltic states from an armchair, thank you both. Keep the vlogs coming. Cheers Mikeđđđ·
Really loves these so much. Keep them coming! Thank you.
Will do!
So glad youâre enjoying them
Wildswimming is good for the soul! Even a sneaky dip between mosquito bites. We are on the hunt for a net for our door so we can at least have it open if we are hiding in the van from them lol. Crazy how some working days you can have literally only taken like 10 steps all day living in the van!!
The answer to your last question is 'Yes, we hear you loud and clear'
Just make sure the messages keep coming! Nice episode, again
Thatâs good to know! Glad you enjoyed and we will continue our broadcasting. Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful mushrooms and do you know that picking mushrooms in Poland is a national passion. In Poland, you can collect mushrooms without a limit and free of charge, unlike in other Western European countries where you have to pay for admission to the forest and the limit of collected mushrooms is around 5 kg. per person.
The UK is actually pretty good for mushrooms because the general public are terrified of them, all the more for us, haha.
The see saw looks like great fun .
Lovely video, and a fantastic camping spot
So impressed that you take the time to learn a few words of the language wherever you go. Itâs so polite to just try saying hello & thanks in the language of the country you are visiting even if you are then answered in perfect English!
Ps. Jealous of that swing - I want a go!!
We do try, Isabel is much better than me, my dyslexic brain struggles a bit. It is really nice to make the effort, and to be able to say âhelloâ to someone you pass on a hike.
@@LostInTransit if you cross Hungary (I've seen plans of you whizzing through the eastern part), I can test you on your Hungarian before using it ;-)
I was thinking that too! We keep accidentally speaking the language of whatever country we just came from lol, these guys are straight on it pros from day one. Very impressive! đȘ
Thanks guys! Really enjoyed the episode. Had me laughing when you were on the mutant see saw thing.
That thing was crazy! I donât think that would be aloud in the uk. Never seen anything like it. Glad you enjoyed it
Enjoy all your videos keep them coming Iâve been to quite a lot of the countries youâve visited xx
This whole area of Europe is new to us, such a nice part. We will keep them coming fear not!
Love hammocks. Was hammocking yesterday with a book. Lurvley.
8:00 tiny soon to be froggos
Hello Tom and Iz đ. Latvia is beautiful, as all Baltic States. I really enjoy your 3 times a week vlog. Enjoy your time in Latvia đ
Hello Anita, the baltics are SO beautiful we have loved it here. Glad youâre enjoying the vlogs
Very nice. Comment for the algorithm.
Thank you đ
Love from Latvia
Very entertaining seeing your adventures and cool you go for swims in the water where you stop. Looks like a fun free way to get around and see the sights, your videos are 10/10. The cliffs are an interesting area and nicely catered for with the walkways. Is it easy to get lost when you go for walks or have you got a system to help if needed? Good Latvia is butterflies, cant stand mosquitos, bad enough in England.
You pair make it look so nice, nature for people to enjoy. Different values I guess.Liked the rock art. Cheers for your videos you two, they're greatđ
We are certainly nature people, sometimes we feel a bit lost in cities. We both grew up in rural Cornwall so guess itâs just what we are used to. Definitely getting spoiled for nature camping spots here in the baltics
Ahh crackington was our respite from ol' smokie in late 90s with our kids. May the road rise with yous
Your welcome Izzy lol. Looks like some cracking spots, enjoy :-)
Haha, thanks Marc. Such a nice spot to chill out by the lake
Butterflies are definitely a good replacement for mosquitoes đđ
Frogs give the shivers but Iâm not sure đ€ why â€ïžđ„ł
I wish Isabel only got the shivers, she screams like crazy and freaks out, haha
Can never find bilberries, just great in a pie - if you have enough! Years since I had any but can recall the taste. Soooo good. Love the vids, keep 'em coming you two!
If you can get to the Scottish highlands you canât move for bilberryâs, they have sustained me through many a hike
Glad youâre enjoying the vids
Lovely video, and a fantastic camping spot you found!
Would you say that the Baltic states look a bit like Scandinavia, except being rather flat? Or is it just an impression I get?
Estonia basically looks like flatter Finland and Sweden.
So cool you guys are into mushrooms! Just found some chanterelles and chestnut boletes in the woods here in Maryland, USAđ
We love mushroom foraging! We are very confident on the main foraging species but would love to expand to more slightly so we can come home with a basket full of odd looking fungi. We have actually found some chanterelles and a rather impressive parasol mushroom since this vid so the season has officially began!!!!
Awesome!đ
As ever, a good video. If you ever have any downtime, read Henning Mankell's 'The Dogs of Riga', a very good thriller!
Will get it on the kindle!
Hello, very good video, what brand of camera do you use, very clear video.
I like it.
We use the canon m50
Mind yourselves guys x
Cheers Tim
"Gutted it's not mushroom season"
... ohhhhhhh really?! đ€
But NO mozzies!!!
Did you not fancy a SUP on that lake?
Haha, I have a feeling mushroom season is right around the corner đ€«
No mozzies, that first spot was a nightmare but since then mozzie levels have been fine. We spoke about it but decided it was more a hammock kinda evening, haha, feeling a bit lazy after our hike (even though it was kinda short)
@@LostInTransit wellll if you do find some mushrooms, don't spoil things for the gnomes! đ
Quick question, what's the weather like over there right now, is it as hot as central Europe and the UK? How do you keep cool, especially at night? Love the learning (language and a bit of history, mushrooms berries) :-)
Itâs actually not too hot right now. Last month we had 31C but at the moment we are around 20C+/-3C, so nice temp for hiking sleeping ext. looks crazy in Central Europe and even the UK. Hoping there will be lots more mushrooms in upcoming vlogs!

How come you weren't fixing the toilet Iz? I think Tom got the short straw there! đ
The definition if a s**t job! Not sure how I ended up with that task. She will have to do it next time, haha
Remember. A " j " is pronounced like a " y " in Europe, mostly. Gowya (Gauja). ;-) Heres a help for coming trips...in Poland, an L with a line through it ( Ć ) is pronounced like a "w" in english. E..g. the Polish boys name Ćukasz is pronounced Woo-Cash. And , if you see a "y" at the end of a Polish word, it makes that word plural. The tricky bit, its not pronounced like a y, its pronounced like "uh". Here's even funnier, potato chips (or crisps to us anglophiles) are not chips in poland but " chipsy" . They've taken a plural english word and polish-pluralised it by throwing on a "y". Chips-uh! Right, I'll get my coat........
This is gold! Thank you. I have been dreading trying to pronounce the Polish words, this is so helpful. And chipsy đ
I like to think if we sell Polish crisps in the UK it will be advertised as chipsys
@@LostInTransit My thoughts exactly. But the Romanians would complain " we had them first"
@@LostInTransit Tom, what brand/model Gimble did you buy? Am about to buy a CAnon M50 Mk2 plus microphone and Gimble. YOur advice would be appreciated.
I heard that you like mushroom picking, but have you participated in the night mushroom picking championship? :)) we have such in Latvia.
And Latvian garlic bread is better than Lithuanian! (:
Sorry braliukai.
Wow, Iâm going to have to google this, sounds amazing
It is not huge event, but all mushroom maniacs are gathered there :))

How are you getting around the 90 say visa thing?
We will have to spend time outside the Schengen area until our visa re-news. So most of the balkans are not Schengen or even into turkey if we want more to explore.
@@LostInTransit ahh I see. Thanks. đ
@@LostInTransit I bet you meant Turkey as opposed to turkey ;-)

Lovely polite English people who make an effort - the opposite to the angry gammons who live in Spain, complain about foreigners and voted for Brexit.
If only Latvia had carling on tap, a decent full-English and arsenal on the tv. đ€Ł
Sometimes, I could wish I was a princess. As I understand, they don't need to go to a toilet.
You can be a princess đ
We could make you a crown and find a large cork?
