  • In this video we install Motordyne's 5/16 Plenum Spacer, MREV 2 lower plenum as well as their Iso Thermal upgrade. We also throw our little spin into the whole mix and install a throttle body spacer, in hopes to help keep the intake manifold a little cooler and help increase its volume.
    This install video covers the Nissan 350Z and Infiniti G35.
    Here is the MREV 2

      Anthony, Here's a review on my Plenum Intake modification. Recently I developed a valve cover gasket oil leak. So I ordered Victor Reinz151010701gasket and New spark plugs NGK LFR5AHX Ruthenium as I'm ready there...So I removed the plenum to facilitate the other Maintenance. Completed the new valve cover gasket and new plug installation...Then I went Old School trying to Port & Polish the plenum...Using a grinder, I reshaped the fat inlet plenum tubes to more thinner aerodynamic flowing...I must of removed about 3/16 or more of material from some areas...Then I followed it with 200 grit sandpaper to finish irregularities...Finishing was done throughout
      with a 3 in corse wire wheel on a drill...I used the wire wheel extensively in the inlet tubes to make then smooth as possible...I used a smaller wire wheel to polish the lower 6 outlet tubes...Moved to the upper plenum cover and removed the throttle body...Here I was aggressive with the 3in wire wheel as it was nearly the same size as the opening...I believe I opened that area by 1/16 to make it smooth flowing...CAREFULLY, I did the same thing to throttle body...I washed the plenum with degreaser and brush and let dry ...Coated all the interior plenum parts with 303 Graphene for added slickness and protection against vapor oils collecting.
      BOTTOM LINE: My Butt dyno says that I have made a noticeable power gain. Was it a new set of plugs versus 100k miles originals or the extensive plenum rework? I know I'm ecstatic about the results!

    This is a good, informative video! I've run both stock DE and Revup plenums on my cammed DE, but I have a tendency to overthink things lol. For example, I measured the two plenums, and the Revup plenum is roughly one pound lighter, so that seems like a lot more air volume in the plenum. After installing the Revup plenum, peak power dropped on my z, from 300 to 283, but I installed a plenum spacer to hopefully bring that back up. It would be dope to have 300 whp again, but holding it all the way to redline.
    The DE plenum + plenum spacer dropped off sharply after 6200 rpm or so, which I was disappointed with, and is why I went the direction I did. Cheers!

    Hey man, I just installed mine. You actually want to remove the studs from the lower plenum and not reuse them. Motordyne supplies new screws for these two holes. Also, the extra long screw goes into the hole next to the throttle body. Motordyne supplies exactly the right amount of screws to completely replace the original hardware.
    Also for anyone installing this, the fat washers for the strut bar go underneath the strut bar feet to provide additional clearance for the new taller plenum. It should clear it as well as not ruin your hood.

    Did your car throw any codes following the install? Also, at the end when you start the engine and blip the throttle, you hear a faint chirp or "squeak" sound at each blip. I've been debating on whether or not to get a plenum spacer. It just seems like the engineers at Nissan designed the motor and the intake but it doesn't seem like a 5/16 spacer in the front part of the cylinder intake runner makes no difference. You do have to realize is dependent on the vacuum that is being sucked into the motor. How has that space or that you put on bin after having the car for a few years?

    AnthonyJ350, I am wanting to upgrade my plenum and manifold. I want to go with the Motordyne MREV 2 lower manifold, and rather than go with the Motordyne 5/16 spacer kit, purchase a Kinetix Racing KX-V-Z33 V+ Intake Plenum. Would love to hear your thoughts on this. I like the Kinetix upper plenum because I believe it will reduce heat sink far more than the 5/16 spacers, plus increase overall plenum aiflow volume. If I installed these two items correctly without a vacuum leak, would it throw an engine code?

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  Před 7 lety

      Really good questions. You would need to do the ECU reset after installing your parts to make sure the car can learn the new air flow. But the car will really benefit from a tune czcams.com/video/eC1-hE3PBf0/video.html

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  Před 5 lety +1

      It's the intake runner length. The REVup did a different setup compared to the DE for top end power. The MREV2 is a modified DE lower plenum for better air flow. Also the REVup has variable valve timing on intake and exhaust to take advantage of this. The revup will also only make the bigger gains if matched with the plenum spacer and use the iso thermal gaskets to prevent heat soak to help maintain power when the engine is hot.

      @EatMyPropwash Před 5 lety

      ...that’s what this video is all about. Lol. MREV 2 and 5/16 spacer. The copper throttle body spacer is only meant if you live in a place where it gets cold for long periods of time. I.E Midwest, and northern states. Here in Texas, it gets cold in winter, but, not long enough to warrant the copper spacer. While your engine is apart... great time to paint your plenum, paint your throttle body if you want, spark plug change, add a catch can, do an oil change (highly recommend a Z1 magnetic drain plug), etc...

      They're probably isn't a big difference, maybe price. I would just get the Motordyne version. Also look into the ISO thermal kit which makes a huge difference once the engine is hot.
