I Made 15 Characters in the Dawntrail Benchmark - FFXIV 7.0 Graphics Preview

The Final Fantasy 14 Dawntrail benchmark released this past weekend and it includes a full character creator with the new 7.0 graphics! I spent way too much time in here making characters and in this video we'll take a look at them.

Nice! The transparency of the skin when light hits it's called 'subsurface scattering' for anyone wondering
About time someone gives good content and not just generic no reasons on why they like/disklike job classes and also now graphics in the game
I'm personally a male au ra main and mine looks amazing with the new graphics

The upgrade was so much needed, no more blocky faces, flat textures, weird eyes dot. I love what they did with the lighting.

The female Au Ra have a weird neck seam that is very visible in some emotes and there are a couple of other issues like the beauty mark on male viera cheeks look like a hair stuck to his face and not a dot.
Over all it's a really nice improvement. The limbal rings on female au ra actually give off light. If you look at them in a dark setting you can see the light illuminating their cheeks etc. I just wish they had separated the Au Ra horns from the faces and hrothgar hair from their faces. Those are really disappointing design decisions.
Yeah, hoping it's just some weirdness with the benchmark and they patch up some of that stuff for the official release. Definitely agree about the horns and hair too, would be nice if you could pick any of them

I mostly play a Fem Roe Sea Wolf. I recently changed her to a Male Duskwight and now I'm torn on which to use going forward.
This update isn't helping the decision, because I tried them both out with the Benchmark and they both look SO GOOD!!!
I also made a Male Roe Sea Wolf with the Benchmark and man, what a glow up!
The Elezen and Roe races are definitely underappreciated!

I couldn’t really see that many changes whenever they showed off the new engine on streams but your video really opened my eyes to it, def gonna have to download the benchmark and try it out

"I'll never play a Lala" is what I said at first as well. :D When I started playing FFXIV back in 2019, I choose male Miqo'te and thought I'd never change. Till then I also played male Au Ra (didn't like their standing animation), male Elezen, male Viera, female Lalafell, female Au Ra and most recently male Hrothgar. I learned to enjoy most races for what they are and what makes them different. I had the most wholesome experiences while playing Lalafell and Hrothgar, it feels like they're are their own small community within FFXIV. :D

Very nice! How were you able to re-edit your benchmark characters? When I choose to load appearance data, it only shows me the characters I've saved on my main game.
Male Viera enjoyer here. I have 8 and have gotten them to look very distinct and different. Kind of scared to pull them into the benchmark tbh. One big thing I see is that the noses look darker. I know it is a feature you can toggle on one of the 2 clans, but it looks like all noses have been darkened. Also the eyes are their signature feature and I need to see how they changed once lighting is corrected. Great video review of the changes.
I'm mostly very happy with this update, my characters all just look like straight upgrades!

Wait did they finally let you remove the hellsguard nose smudge? It's my main gripe with their face tbh
The char Editor doesn't look like the stuff does ingame, why does everyone do this wrong?

Agreed on the midlander hyur in that some of them can look pretty young but I recommend checking out the 'older' looking face (it WAS face 4 but I think it's face 3 now) the one that Yoshi P uses for the Wandering Minstrel and himself ingame, it's definitely less 'teenager' and has some pretty big range to it depending on colour use and facial hair or not

I thought I would never make much less enjoy a lala, but once they announced that we’d get another free Fantasia I turned my alt bunny girl until a lala. We will not be turning back 🤣 they are just so expressive and cute. Anywho no complaints on my cat girl main. She looks great as per usual. Glad they made dark-skinned characters look better. She looks amazing even in not so lit areas in the benchmark.

they need to fix the faces - something feels off like they made a mistake in the update - this is weird
highlander faces still bad i see. its midlander then.
If your main job is Reaper, then now is the time to join Bun Boi because you look dead too
I like most of the changes except for female au ra face 4, which happens to be the face I use. They gave them a nose job, lip filler, and took all the angular features out of the face. I hate it so much.
