How to sample Old RnB/Soul Songs into Modern Trap Hits | Logic Pro X Sampling Tutorial
VloĆŸit
- Äas pĆidĂĄn 28. 02. 2020
- In this video I'll be sampling an old soul/rnb song and speeding it up, giving it a more modern feel that you hear in a lot of popular music today. Although no one in particular popularized this style of sampling, some of the more recent hits include Drake's "Nice For What" produced by Murda Beatz, and in the early 2000's Kanye West who got Jamie Foxx to sing "Gold Digger" which is a rip of a classic Ray Charles song. I will be using the Flex algorithm in Logic Pro X to show you how to sample and Ultrabeat for my drum samples/one shots.

Tony Holiday Hey Tony any way you can give us a link to the half time that you used ?
Old samples canât be copyrighted if theyâre older than 72 years. They automatically go into public domain.

Yea bro we still gotta wait like 50 years because artists from that era died like 20 years ago!

Tony Holiday mainly the pitch and time algorithms, I have been messing with logic since 2011 and nothing beat the time stretch in logic at the time. Serato is amazing when it comes to pitch and time shifting, way less artifacts

Oooooo love it! Share it in the discord
One of the best tutorials Iâve ever seen on CZcams
Appreciate you Cal! Thanks for the support
Most welcome Tony! Do you think sampling a track with drums would work if pitched up? Seems a nightmare to try and remove them with EQ etc..
@@calneon6549 It depends really, the best you can do is just try. I've been successful and hiding drums and transients in samples with EQ and compression and other manipulation, then re-doing a new drum part on top.
If done correctly the only person that would notice the old drums is the person who made it. But sometimes it's just not possible.
Good luck!
Iâm not sure my knowledge of EQ is strong enough at the moment. Can I hire you to have a go for me? : D
@@calneon6549 Unfortunately I'm pretty strapped with a lot of projects for the moment, so I will have to politely decline. But just start with taking out low frequencies and then sweeps for higher/mid ones. Drop the gain in those spots till it sounds dampened but not taking away from the melody too much.
Fire đđđ
đđđ appreciate you
OHHH now it makes sense
Bit of a process but once you got it down itâs all good đ
Hey Tony "New York Accent" I just want to say that you keep these up brotha, and from you being a blessing to us. God's going to bless you.
I also wanted to introduce you to Russ if you don't already know who he is, you certainly should check out who he is.
Also if you read or listen to Audio Books I deff wanna tell you to check out his Book. It is super Inspireing.
Also he does a lot of samples in his music.
One other thing is that I want to say is that what you said about Picking a Saw, and sticking with it.
I really like Logic because it's super visual as well as colorful.
Brotha please do not stop making these videos because you are teaching me personally a lot about being a sick Producer which helps a lot with my Song writeing.
By the way I don't comment much on videos because of who I am affiliated with in Music Industry, but just know my brotha that your videos are getting seen by some very let's just say up there peoples
Truly appreciate you T.H.

Thanks man, great video, I didn't know this could be so easy! I have never even noticed the flex tool before. I'm just struggling with what to do in the arrangement other than breaks with fx sweeps.. đ€
Hey man! Really glad you liked the video and found some value in it. Arrangement is probably one of the biggest hurdles I have as well. My advice would be try throwing drum fills, sweeps, foley, ambiance, basically anything that has variation so that it doesnât sound like one big 4 minute loop (although a lot of tracks are like that these days)
Good luck, thanks for watching!
@@itstonyholiday soundcloud.com/sebheller/concrete-walls Made this using the techniques from your video. Thanks again
Hi Tony, thank you so much for the video. I am very new to Logic Pro X so you telling us all the shortcuts while you show the tutorial really helps. I have a dumb question, how do you get that time maker in your logic pro x? I only have bar, beats, temp and scale info. Thanks in advance :)
Not a dumb question Sundeep! If you right click the top bar in LPX it will give you the option to customize it. Thanks for watching and the kind words!!
Hey Tony, I've been binge watching your videos. You really are enthusiastic about this and it helps motivate me! My biggest problem right now with sampling is the the drums in the sample. What do you do about that?
Hey Massimo, really pleased to hear that you like the content.
It can take a lot of messing with for sure. EQ + compression are your friends here when it comes to masking drums that are in samples. Most of the time if you can EQ them out and then change the speed of the sample and add new drums on top you won't notice them too much.
Thnaks for watching + the comment!
Wow! Mtbrd - The Inclination samples that same song. I knew I recognized the vocals haha
Never heard it til now... fire track tho! Thanks for sharing
Hey man, great vid.
I've however got an issue with the flex mode: the last step, when I change it to polyphonic and then change the tempo, when I disable the flex mode the region stretches itself automatically (in your video, the region doesn't move at all)
Any ideas?
Donât disable flex on the track, only go out of flex mode. That way the track should stay how youâve set it đ
Loved the video, just wondering did you remove the drums from the original sample or was it a section wihtout drums?
It's pretty hard to remove the drums completely from tracks without the use of 3rd party plugins. For this one I believe I just EQ'd out the low end and then the new drum track took over the frequencies and hid the parts I couldn't remove.
Thanks for watching, glad you liked the content!
