    I love the Phillips brand, it has quality. We used to use CB radios for communicating with our company fleet 🌍and many of the vehicles had Australian made radios, but my truck had an old Phillips set (also made in Australia) that had some very usefull and unique futures, that the other newer radios did not have. At a long distance, with the Phillips I could communicate with the base clearly, but the other radios would start to fade out!🗼
    I also have a 1950's Telefunken valve radio, I think its of the 'Opus' model line. I bought it because in my childhood we had the bigger version of this Opus model and my mum used to place my baby cot besides the radio to get me to sleep. Then growing up as a child, I remember the dials and the tone lights, the sounds of BBC radio, VOA, and many other stations.☀

    In the year 1961 Philips India Limited had manufactured a limited number of AC/DC Valve receivers and these were sold out very fast, probably because they were cheap and also very small in size. Yes the model number was B2CA09U a 2 band receiver, valve lineup being UCH81, UBF89, UCL82, UY85- just 4 valves ie Oscillator, IF Amplifier, AF pre and Output Amp and half- wave Rectifier. The set used to get heated up very soon in view of the small housing (bakelite cabinet). The set was ideal for Defence Service Personnel who are transferred frequently. As regards its performance, since I grew with the receiver I could pickup up distant stations loud and clear both on Medium and Short waves. Radio Ceylon, National Vividh Bharati, BBC, VOA, Peaking, Moscow, Radio Australia, Ethiopia (Adis Ababa), Phillipines (Quezon City) etc. In Medium wave I picked up Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Madras and many prominent radio stations across the country from states like UP, MP, BIHAR, ORISSA, ASSAM, AP, PUNJAB, MAHARASHTRA. The set was gifted to my father by my maternal grandfather in November 1961 as a marriage gift. I enjoyed it till late seventies and in early eighties we bought transistor radios - cool sets, battery operated, no electrical disturbance etc were some of the benefits of modern technology. I still possess the receiver- it no longer works but serves as a memento....

    Hello Ankur I got a Philips B3CL66U from my granpa years ago, I am trying to restore it, but I am seen the rotary switch potentiometer is damaged, do you know where I can get a spare part?

    • @ankurpaul1
      @ankurpaul1  Před rokem

      Very difficult to get Philips type rotatory potentiometer now a days.
      Its value is about 1 mega ohns.
      You may join the Facebook group Vintage Radio Society of India and post your requirements there. Otherwise you may get from eBay. Or you may buy some junk radios for salvaging parts.
