My father who is Ed Seeman and was Frank's (and the Mothers) cinematographer in the late 60's while in NYC(residence on Charles St and Garrick Theater) and accompanied them (and Pam) in Europe, could NOT convince Gail to give access to his own footage!!

The only way you'll get anywhere near knowing Frank is to listen to the passion in his guitar solos and or his instrumental compositions. So don't kid yourself. lol.

You certainly won't get to any of that in this lousy failure of a documentary. Is there even one single guitar solo in the movie? They make a big deal showing that one clip "Last time he ever played guitar"....and then you never see or him play another solo the entire film. What a frickin' joke.

Too bad he blew the movie. What a complete and utter disappointment. You finish the movie, you don't want to hear any more Zappa, you don't even have any Zappa in your head other than his Varese pretensions which aren't exactly the catchiest things in the world and certainly don't make you want to go attack his massive catalog. Only two hours long when this should have been like the six part Grateful Dead documentary. Long form music does not get served well on a pat 2 hour documentary. They don't include any full songs, but lots of clips of him tuning up, lol. And counting in! "1,2, 3, 4...." cut away to an interview clip. This guy starts his movie with Frank getting ready to play his guitar.....and then you don't see him play any guitar throughout the movie because it's bending over backwards to convince you that he's a "composer". (we get it!) Not interested in Frank the Family Man when there are 10,000 musicians who he played with that could have been interviewed. What an absolute failure. A fan can get some things out of it, but it's the WORSE way to introduce someone to Zappa. And that makes it an absolute failure. I wouldn't recommend it to a carrot.
