Thumbs down are prosthetic-haters.
Yes sir lol
hahahah ! Or some who have lost them inside the capitol in Washington : ))
Thanks for making this video!
totally agree
No, I think they just got their prosthetics turned upside down.
The trick was making sure your horse Buell never ran off with your leg. 🥴
Yes
I was thinking about the Veteran too!😆
@@mariemorgan7759 good ol Hamish Sinclair.
@@BJBlaskovichGaming Although it was sad, it still one of my favorite side missions in the game!
@@mariemorgan7759 Agreed. Ended quite sadly, but Hamish is very underrated, great character. I was fond of Charlotte Balfour as well.
Them prosthetics were expensive. They cost an arm and a leg.
Boo this man! Boo!
On a related note, it's going to be very warm after I die for laughing at this. But at least I'll be with friends.
these puns are getting out of hand

"Colt makes arms". This is comedy gold man.
Thanks. I thought it was too.
Thanks Santee, as a lower limb amputee this is a subject I'm happy to see highlighted. I learned about hangers legacy last year around this time. Pretty interesting that a war so devastating, has helped more amputees than those who lost limbs during the conflict.
Great episode.
It is. A revolutionary time for prosthetics. Amazing.
Thanks again, Santee, for tackling another obscure Old West topic neglected by other CZcamsrs (and authors). More power to your arm!
Thanks!
Being one with damaged legs, it does make it hard in daily life. Confidence is one thing is always in short supply. Especially when people are staring.
Yeah, people to this day are still not used to seeing it.
Oh my gosh, I’ve been waiting for this episode and didn’t even know it.
Cool!
Wow! I did not know. I can't imagine losing a limb in modern times let alone the troubles a guy would have in those days of primitive medicine.
You put your finger on it! Oh....sorry.
@@ArizonaGhostriders .....er...so to speak.
Santee, sleep is a stranger to you. May you have a great weekend and more coffee.
Thank you!
I listened to a historian give a lecture on the individual state programs to provide Confederate veterans with artificial limbs post war. The limbs developed remained virtually unchanged until recently and were quite remarkable. As a child I remember all the young Marines at Oaknoll Naval Hospital in California getting prosthetics due to the Vietnam War and it's amazing the devices hadn't changed in 100 years.
When it works, it works.
Replacements for arms and legs i didn't know it was a thing back then I'm glad people made techs like these to help people recover
Yay for learning something, Milton! Yeeehaw!
Awesome video. It's incredibe the level of functionality that you could get from the artificial limbs in the west.
Yes. People overcome and forge ahead.
great vid Cheese! and while I loved the "get a grip joke" I think there were several missed opportunities with the word "wood" !!! ha ha ha ha
Yes. I was trying not to make the whole thing about jokes....to be sensitive. But some I can't control.
Well Santee don’t cut me off at the knees.
Some of your questions stumped me.
I would not of thought of this as a topic. Good on your channel followers. And nicely done Santee. Nice touch with TREX .
Thank you!
I didn't know they even had prosthetic limbs back then
Score! I like it when people learn stuff!
If I'm not mistaken , archaeologists have found a 5,000 year old prosthetic foot in Egypt .
My dad needs a new left leg, now I know where to start for next Christmas

Thanks again Santee & Co. I believe the gentleman dancing with a prosthetic leg is ' Peg Leg ' Bates from Fountain Inn , South Carolina . That's in the next county from mine . Bates lost his leg in a cotton mill at the age of 12. See Y'all down the trail .
It is Peg Leg Bates. He was an amazing man. Lost his leg in a cotton gin accident.
This channel deserves more subscribers
Thank you!
A truly fascinating video, Santee. Thanks for making it.
You're welcome!
Very interesting. A piece of American history folk don't think about. Thank you. Good 👍.

good morning Santee, another groundbreaking in the youtube! No one comes up with such request thanks to braxton to bring the subjtect to you guys. thanks and have a great weekend.

This was a good video and very informative, I had no clue that they even had prosthetics back then. Way to stay a leg up on the competition. Thanks again Arizona Ghostriders!!🇺🇸🤠
Any time!
If ya think about it. This was an amazing idea and how it changes lives. So thankful for those that created these. Tfs Santee. Diane 🦋
Absolutely!!
Some things I learn everyday thanks to show this video about the West and everything else
Much appreciated.
those two bridging skits were hilarious, great to see Bill being a good person and trying to help someone 🤣

They were fun to do.
Educating and entertaining, my favorite kind of CZcams content!
Glad to do both for ya!
While not the "Old West" My Uncle Don Wahl was the youngest Prosthetic leg wear at the time. He was born with a missing leg and his left hand was all hone part that they split and made a claw out of. Uncle Don was even featured in a magazine at the time ( This was in the mid 1940's and he was 2 at the time) With his hand, most people would restring a guitar to play it. He flipped it over, kept the stings as they normally are, taught himself how to play (The rest of the family played guitar and why resting it every time you wanted to play it. One time while playing Highschool football, he recovered a fumble and started to run down the field. A player on the other team ran up to tackle him and pulled the leg off and in horror thought he had pulled my uncles leg off. He Finished running the field on 1 leg and made a touch town. He also wrestled (with 1 leg) and rode bulls and broncs with just 1 leg. Amazing people out there. Thanks for the episode. Always look forward to them
Very cool family history! Thanks for sharing.
Fun fact, battlefield archeologists use limb dumps to locate field hospital locations! After big battles they would have a huge pit just full of arms and legs and feet and hands, like a mass grave for the parts of hundreds of men.
Yeah, so I read. Ugh!

@@ArizonaGhostriders Well thank you aswell! Consistently overjoyed every time i see one of these pop up in the inbox
Thanks for another great Saturday morning watch, Santee! Very interesting vid. Take care, my friend!🤠🍻👋
Glad you enjoyed it
As a leg amputee myself, I've wondered about incorporating that into my reenacting. I have thought about getting an antique style prosthesis, but I'm betting that they were at least uncomfortable if not painful to use...
I was a lawdawg in a gunfight with a bunch of other reenactors a couple years back. One of the outaws was a gentleman with a peg leg. It was cool. Made me feel like I'd somehow stepped back in time.
I'm in the same situation as you. been wondering the same thing.. might be kinda fun
Wow Santee, You never cease to get my undivided attention every Saturday morning. very interesting topic I personally never gave it a thought. I guess you really had a hand on the subject.
Hey wait a second, was that really your hand in the movie "Legend of 5 Mile Cave" or a Hollywood prop?
It was my hand for that 1 second shot. I think.
This was a very disarming episode. Thanks Santee for always providing good information.
Very welcome. HA!
Hey thanks for doing my suggestion. I’ve changed my profile since then but it’s still me
Well thanks for staying with us, Braxt--er, Lil Critic!
Great video with excellent information. Its certainly inspiring that so many men went on to happy productive lives after amputations. Prosthetics are about function and confidence.
So true!
Frank James was known for his disarming smile.
Yes!
He really had no leg to stand on legally...
The general store owner in Strawberry from rdr2 actually has a prothetic leg. You can see it if you walk behind his counter and look at his left leg.
Cool!
Gotta “Hand” it to you, nice one. You always got a leg up on the competition 😜. God Bless 👍🏼❤️🇺🇸🤠
You got that right!
Hi Santee! Interesting topic as usual! Thanks for posting. Take care & God bless!
Glad you enjoyed it
Quite a step up from what Pirates had, such as peglegs and hooks.
Yes.
In 1866 the South was under federal military government. Federal Major General Aldbert Ames was Mississippi's military governor. Federal occupation of the southern states ended at the beginning of President Hayes term in 1877. Hope this helps you Santee, well you and your group Best Wishes from Alaska.
Thanks, Alaska Boy!
Never would have thought of this as a topic, but this quite informative on a number of levels. Interestingly, few American made westerns ever breech this subject. The Spagetti westerns have, with the notable scene of the legless Confederate interacting with Eastwood's character in the "Good, the Bad and the Ugly".
Have you done anything on 'magic lantern shows'? People would travel circuit with glass slides they'd project on a sheet. Political, cultural, historical, nature sites, etc. would be shown to the good people of town.
(Some of these magic lantern operators also had glass slides that they'd show that some of the 'good people' of town would view in a more 'restricted' setting hoping not to get caught. A righteous civic leader may have said, "The sheriff, the mayor, the reverend, the judge and I viewed them several times to assure that they were decadent to the morals of our town. To prevent the perpetrator from further polluting others, we thoughtfully confiscated that material and locked them securely in the safe at our lodge hall to prevent innocent eyes from harm. By the way, did I tell you our lodge membership just doubled?")
Every once in awhile. Last Stand at Saber River had a vet in it that lost the use of his arm. Not sure if he was an amputee.
This reminded me of the civil war vet you can meet in red dead 2 who lives my a lake and has a false leg and a horse named after his CO.
🤠
0:03 I'm predicting a "cost an arm and a leg" or a "didn't have a leg to stand on" joke
Yeah, I tried to keep them to a minimum...
@@ArizonaGhostriders I didn't even think of the "arms/guns" angle. You got me with that one. And the vulcanized rubber got a good guffaw out of me
Well, ya did good with the "vulcanized rubber" joke.
I have to say that I have never learned about this in school! This is one of the few videos you got me on! Hahahaha! Stay safe my friend!😷👍🏻

I used to live in Wichita Falls, it's still a mean town. There's an author from the Wichita Falls area named Julie Williams Coley who wrote a series of books on murders in North Texas from the old west till the 1970s.
Them cowtowns could be mean.

There was such a need for artificial limbs for wounded veterans that in 1866 the state of Mississsippi spent 20% of their annual budget to start dealing with this need.
Yeah, the south had a hard time because the North didn't really help at all.
Another great episode as always!

Thanx for the hand with the suggestion. When Don'tCallMeMrs.SquibLoad saw your video she told me that she wanted something from your store for Valentine's Day. Your merchandise is different than some cheap trinket to put on her wrist of ankle. You could say you gave me a leg up on the situation.

That-a-boy!
Civil War surgeons had to work fast because of battlefield mass casualties. Saving a life took precedence over saving a limb.
Right. It's sad, but true.
@@ArizonaGhostriders …. Military tactics of the war had lines of men walking into cannon and mass rifle fire. Something that got repeated on a much larger scale in WW1. Fifty years later.

I was playing in a weekend softball game (Very Badly) around 1981 and a girl on the team seemed to be limping a little. I asked her if she had sprained her ankle or twisted her knee. She didn't answer. Later in the game while I was waiting to bat I noticed that she had a prosthetic leg. I wanted to crawl under a big rock.
You aren't the only one. She may have later improved her limp to the point where nobody could tell. I was fooled by a guy at the gym. He never limped at all. 6 months later I saw him remove his leg in the locker room.
