Split 2 of 2024 ranked is starting on May 15th, with it come a lot of changes, the removal of -50 LP demotions, no more protection shields between divisions, fluid LP for promoting and demoting, duo queue in master, new placements letting us go as high as Diamond from placement games and more!

@@CrystalisedWorld that is only if you demote from say silver 4 to bronze 1. If you go between silver 1 and silver 2 you just lose the real LP value (silver 1 at 5 LP then lose a game losing 25 LP, you would then become silver 2 at 80LP).

So we're basically back to the old elo system but it just has fancy nicknames. At this point just remove visible rank and just show MMR.
It has always been like this, the LP is just a 'fake' rank on top of your actual MMR, so in a standard MMR you would gain more or less points depending on the game you're in, the LP behaves the same way, that's why if you're smurfing you can jump so many elos at once, the LP rank tries to catch up, or vice-versa

@@Iridion93 People like the feeling of progress, seeing LP gain, and rank ups feels more dynamic, in reality the game uses a different MMR to match you against other players, overall the classic MMR tends to get very stale, but if you get to master rank pretty much you start grinding points just like the old days of league. I think they don't show your true MMR because it might be weirdly complex, it probably analyzes other stuff and it could be very dynamic to represent how you perform against your opponents in an individual level until it gets calibrated, in classic MMR it's always linear, your consistency alone is the only factor that matters, even Dota added rank labels, but it's essntially the very oldschool score system, win +20, lose -20, and that's it
@@gsczo I think you're right here, MMR will show very big drops and gains that may look inexplicable to most people (due to how it would be calculated). Looking at complaints regarding losing more lp than gaining, I can image a lot more people would complain
@@reckoningfate5656 Riot has been trying to improve this for years, I'd say the even did a great job, but still it's never perfect, a few ago before the whole ranking system revamp you'd have devastating drops, it felt terrible, in reality your 'true-skill-MMR' barely changed, but your LPs took a hard hit because their disparity... and a fun fact, even normal games use the same MMR system, maybe not the same, but a system where if you win a lot and are consistenly good, you'll be matched against players with the same MMR, you could even get stuck at long queues because of that, in normal games... makes sense, just because it's normal doesn't mean the game should be a dice-roll everytime, there must be something to separate the players
Thank god. Nothing more infuriating than getting 2 unlucky games in a row after promotion then you immediately lose 50lp. This was the dumbest shit ever.

legit played 3 games when i was like 50lp, lost two genuinely, went to 0, the third game i had an afk on my team since min 10
and a k/d/a jungler who refused to do any objectives apart from just farming kills, lost the game and lost 50 lp. ok riot. total lost lp was 100 from 3 games

I’d like to see if this fixes stupid coinflip games where my team is either intentionally feeding/griefing or stomping the enemy hard because enemy team got the other side of the coin. 75% of the time were zero quality games where you get either unsatisfsctory victories or infuriating losses due to your teammates.
We are closer to going back to plain mmr numbers as it always should have been, lp is just a mimic at this point.

i just got to diamond this season and oh god let me tell you... i was busy for most of the split so i had to grind the last few weeks while the demotion to 50 was active.... it was such a pain to get a 5 match win streak, lose 2 games and demote to 50 lp... basically canceling out my whole win streak. Since the cap was 25 lp and most of people didnt get +25lp/win on the dot, and smth more like 22-23... getting that 50lp back was such a pain, basically cancelling out two of your wins with a single loss if you demoted :c for a while i was sure i'd end up emerald1 hardstuck cuz of this change
dropped from silver 2 to bronze 4 with the - 50 lp and I tried everything to prevent it. Playing the most basic ass champs and followed every damn rule skill cap and the others teached me. Nearly got silver to casually drop two divisions again. It felt so fckn demotivating to play ranked. Nearly dropped the game for good...
try to play with a good premade, i was bronze 2 and i found a good supp for my adc and we got 12 win strike to silver 4 ofc u should tryhard and dont doing stupide mistakes

First split I literally just got to emerald and stopped playing because of the situation where you could have a 60% winrate (which I had) and YOU WOULDN'T MOVE UP IN RANK!!! But I think they fixed that a while ago so I might start playing ranked again, especially with these new ranked changes :D

@@Dargon1o1 when was this? This was fixed. It was a problem last year second split when emerald was introduced, but it was fixed. Emerald also was changed to +-20.
@@MrDT2012 it was a while ago, but it killed my want to play ranked and league in general. I do remember riot saying that they fixed that specific issue.
@@Dargon1o1 oh yeah that was fixed. That’s because emerald (which kinda still is) was inflated plus other ranks because of the new rank and LP gains. They just introduced emerald and high LP gains, so everything was messed up. People MMR was still at their ranks, but visible was at emerald so your LP gains were low. If you had kept playing and let’s say you stayed around emerald, your MMR would have got your gains even. You just didn’t play enough for the system to catch up. It’s fixed though now, so you won’t probably get that high so quick over many games played.

This is decent if you hover around 51% wr but due to how losers queues work and how riot punishes you for doing well and winning a lot they'll pair you with 4 40% wr potatos and every demotion is gonna end up being -75 because of how broken the matchmaking system is
Anything beats what's it is right now, played in between major patches and now my win loss is negative 19 and I'm literally gaining 19 LP and losing 31
I went from plat 2 all the way to gold 4 because I got mad from being stuck between plat 3 and 2 and binge played while on a lose streak, the change to lose 50 lp did not help my case lul

Riot has been doing this with Legends of Runeterra for a while. The difference there is that in LoR Riot accepts that there is a decent chance you'll lose a game to getting unlucky. It seems they are finally accepting this in LoL too.
I'm most glad about the duoq in master changes. The -50lp demote never bothered me cause I'm master in soloqueue, but not being able to play with friends did. Glad they're changing this up!
Thank god the -50LP demotions are gone. I tried really hard to get silver, but I kept getting dropped down to Bronze 2 50LP over and over again with teams that were rigged to no end. I check stats to see if I can expect something from my ADC, but every single game I had in Bronze 1 had huge disparities in the enemy team's favor.
This is just closer and closer to using the straight mmr system.

I went from plat to gold because I had a handful of people rage quit or straight up run it down the lane. Yet we get punished for that and lose tons of LP :/
i don't understand why they don't just make MMR a range... I feel like the times where I gain and loose the same amount of LP are so rare, and if it does happen, it's for 1 or 2 games only before the MMR pointer decides I'm not placed right

Removing demotion shields between divisions is the right call.
Hopefully it was because of these that tons of players suffered unfair lp gains and losses, like 14lp for a win and 21 for loss.
Rank and MMR need less obstacles preventing their proper synchronization and as result less frustrating "fixes" such as Riot messing with your lp gains infuriating honest people.

The -50 lp demotion is annoying but it's good to wash out the rats. Trust me Emerald feels 10x better after the change. The biggest bs is when u have 99lp and you get promote. U legit gains 2 lp and sit at 1lp next rank.

If they're making demotion between divisions fluid then it shouldn't say "DEMOTED" in big letters across the top every time it happens. It's really demoralizing.
I got so fatigued and burned out from this shitty system that I decayed (what a fucking joke of a feature for non-challengers) from Diamond 2 to Emerald 1. The decay also exponentially increases, to keep the bullshit consistent. Losing 25 LP per day to literally starting Diamond 4 with 0 LP.
I have 0 drive to put up with this bullshit, especially when the elo resets every 6 months, it makes no sense.

I'm surprised it took this long to implement this change. Losing 25 LP wasn't bad but it was sad. But losing 50? That was soul crushing and it felt like your progress was for nothing because now you'd have to go through the meat grinder again. Fluid may even reduce some toxicity since now you don't have that anxiety of "Oh no oh no I'M GOING TO DEMOTE AGAIN!" and now if you lose it's more of a "well, that sucks, but I can just win again and make it back and continue my progress"

I think it'll be really cool if they made the lp gains just like valorant, especially that part of the lp gain when you perform well, you get extra ratings.
It's much easier in Valorant to automatically detect how well you're performing. In League there are too many ways to contribute towards victory, many of which cannot even be measured.
None of this shit matters except duo a still plaguing solo queue. The only change that will really matter isthey base lp off of individual game performance

I feel like it should be dependent on your performance. If I am always MVP on either winning or losing team it should reflect in my gains. It feels bad knowing that because one person was painfully unprepared and single handedly made the game harder, they should benefit from a win.
But it's really hard for the game to detect performance. If they care about kda then mid and adc would get tons of lp, if they care about objective then top and jg get tons of lp, if they care about vision/cc then support gets turbo inflated...
@@MattHatter360 Well, technically league has trackers for this kind of stuff already. Eternals and challenges do this, they track very well your KDA, vision scores, landing abilities, objectives taken, shields, etc etc. The major challenge here would be attach those same trackers to ranked in a way to allow your LP gains and losses to be dictated not just on winning or losing, but also on performance based on the role you played. Won a match but your performance wasn't great? You won LP but not that much. Lost a game but your performance compared to your role was good? Well you lose LP but the loss is mitigated.
The systems are technically in place already, linking them all into one cohesive system is the real headscratcher.
I kid you , not this -50 lp change made me quit climbing to diamond , i deranked from E3 to E4 like 7 times with a 56%wr.
Yeah whoever came up with that bullcrap of LP shield and then half way demotion down the next division clearly had no idea about it's emotional impact and player mentality as a whole. Make ranks transparently reflect our performance as players. When I play badly just let me feel the consequences directly. No bullcrapping anymore!
Climbing ranked can improve if you gain more LP by getting a winstreak. If you get a winstreak you should be rewarded with more LP. That would actually make it easier for players to climb.
I had a 14 game winstreak this split and went from +30 to +33, so it does improve a little, but not as fast as it used to be when winstreak bonuses were actually a thing.
@@MattHatter360 The game doesn't seem to reward good plays. People with win streak should be receiving much more league points. Honestly, most people don't have the time to play so much league just to climb much more slowly than any other game.
I went from Gold IV to Bronze II, like I get it I moved from russia where I played at 50 ping back into 250 ping but still that's too punishing

In valorant you have -25 RR demotions and some protection. If you lose a game with 1 RR you only lose that and go to 0.

E-sport in general is mainly recognized in Korea, if you look at its neighbor China it is already considered a disease and in Europe there are some clinics that treat video game addiction (ask yourself which one) which says a lot.
