    A useful video, but I would disagree with several points that are made. At 2:22 there is a suggestion that a good strategy would be to pick up a card from the discard pile if it can be added to an existing run. At this point, the presenter points to the 10, Jack and Queen of Spades. If I was holding the presenter's cards, then I wouldn't pick up the 9 of Spades from the discard pile, as the three high spades already complete a valid run. You need cards that will help you to meld your remaining cards, so from this point of view, a 9 of Spades won't help. If, however, you only had one deadwood card in hand, then it would be a good idea to pick up the 9 of Clubs, as you could then meld all your cards and have one deadwood card to discard.
    At 6:53, the presenter discards the 6 of Clubs. However, if I was holding these cards then I would discard the Ace of Diamonds. The 6 of Clubs could be used with the 5 of Clubs if you later obtained another 5 or the 4 of Clubs or the 7 of Clubs, whereas you would need two more cards to make use of the Ace of Diamonds.
    Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticising the presenter, but I'm outlining other options to consider. I try to think of the probabilities of obtaining cards that you need. For example, if you had the 4 of Hearts, 6 of Hearts, 8 of Clubs and 9 of Clubs in hand but needed to discard one of them, you might think that you're two thirds of the way to completing two runs (which you are). However, there is only one card that will complete the run of Hearts (you're missing the 5 of Hearts), but there are two cards that could complete your run of Clubs (either the 7 or the 10 of Clubs), so you're twice as likely to get a card to complete this run. I would therefore discard the higher value Heart card.

    Thanks for the video. In my experience a hand lasts on the average off 7 turns per player. I would never hang on to high value cards for 10 turns. But maybe you mean 10 turns including both players (5+5), in case I might agree with you.

    When playing Gin Rummy on iPad, sometimes the dealer cheats and I took the loss on this quick game. Maybe the dealer does peaked under the cards to prevent the player, like myself suffered a painful loss.

    Question, people i play with allow multiple to be picked up from the discard, with the idea that you have to play the furthest card down the discard pile (if it is an ace on top of a seven, followed by a two on the bottom, you may pick up all 3, as long as you can use the 2 to complete a run or a 3 of a kind on that turn) is this true?

    Why would you discard the six of clubs and keep the king of hearts in deadwood?? The king is worth ten points against you if your opponent knocks. The six of clubs is worth six points.

  • @startvideonow
    @startvideonow Před rokem +1

    Youre playing it wrong. On the first move you should throw away the King and not the 6 of clubs because King is higher and its worse deadwood. The 6 of clubs could be usefull, although unlikely, if another 5 came and you use the 5 of clubs to make sequence
