Sizzling Tofu with Minced Meat

  • Ingredients
    3 tubes egg tofu
    1 tbsp minced garlic
    1/2 onion
    5 dried mushrooms
    1 egg with 1 tbsp water
    1 spring onion (for garnish)
    Tapioca flour (for frying - optional)
    Marinate 150g meat with:
    1 tsp oyster sauce
    1/2 tsp sesame oil
    1 tsp dark caramel sauce
    dash of pepper
    Sauce mixture for tofu
    2 tsp oyster sauce
    1 tbsp wine
    1 tsp sesame oil
    1/2 tsp dark caramel sauce
    1 tsp light soy sauce
    1/2 tsp sugar
    1/4 tsp chicken stock powder
    1/2 cup water
    Corn flour mixture (thickening)
    1 tbsp corn flour
    2 tbsp water
    Method
    Tofu
    1. Coat tofu pieces in tapioca starch (you can just fry the tofu without using an flour too)
    2. Deep fry in hot oil
    3. When light brown, remove and drain on paper towel
    4. Set aside
    Minced Meat Sauce
    1. Saute 1 tbsp garlic and 1/2 onion in oil
    2. When fragrant, add rehydrated mushrooms (until soft)*
    3. Add meat and cook thoroughly
    4. Add prepared sauce mixture
    5. Add corn flour mixture
    6. If too thick, add extra water
    7. When ready, set aside
    Sizzling plate
    1. Coat sizzling plate with oil evenly over stove fire
    2. When hot, add beaten egg mixture
    3. When cooked, remove from stove and put into wooden base
    4. Add tofu over the egg
    5. Add minced meat sauce
    6. Garnish with spring onions
    7. Serve with steamed rice
    *Mushrooms need to be rehydrated in warm water for at least 30-60 minutes beforehand (until soft). Slice mushrooms, stems removed.
