  • NASA has found a Mars rock that 'may have hosted life', with mysterious 'features we've never seen before'.
    Dr Sanjeev Gupta, who is working on the NASA mission, 'Perseverance', that found this rock, joins Tom Swarbrick with details of what it means.

      It's a recording of a podcast that is just cut and slapped on CZcams. Considering the amount of non-stop content they produce I imagine it'd be too much work to have someone go through and edit all of these like 5-10 minute videos just to add pictures or whatever for context, they'd have to have people editing 24-hours a day lol. I found the images with a google search of "mars rock had possible life".

      Viking thought it had detected current life, this is completely different.
      This is a signature of long since extinct life and is much more likely to be real.

      Saying that, I do personally believe that microbial life on Mars was highly possible in the distant past. In the present, maybe, in some very special locations.

      The experiment(s) was not broken, it was tested on two different probes in completely different regions on mars and gave signs that there may be life on mars. But it could also be some chemical process that we don't know of yet as it wasn't conclusive enough to say one way or the other. I don't know where you got that the "experiments were broken" but it's false information. It should be noted that we tested those devices rigorously on earth and it did not a single time produce a false positive, so it was working fine. It's just that when it comes to Mars the evidence needs to be much more substantial than what was shown in the experiments themselves, so further testing is needed.

      How hard is it for people to realise the difference between fossil evidence of life that's been long dead for billions of years and something that is actively alive? We have ENDLESS rules and regulations for the stuff we send from Earth to other planets to make sure we don't contaminate those planets.     Curiosity rover also found Elemental Sulfur inside a rock,
    which broke by the rover accidently driving over it.
    Hopefully a maned mission is on the near horizon and then
    we'll be able to do better science on Mars.

      When I look at the cost of a train ticket in the UK I don't think I could afford the cost of a ticket to Mars. As for the sustainability of Humanity I think that any impartial observers would conclude that we are not worth the candle!

      We need to live on a planet with a very similar gravity, otherwise our internal organs and bones fail. Additionally, Mars dust particles are very small and will probably find a way inside any small living space we could send. It’s a one-way ticket and a death trap.
