Rugby 7s does matter a lot and some may say that it trumps all other sports. However, whenever any Fijian team plays locally or especially overseas, we cheer for them all regardless of whether it's rugby, soccer, altheletics, netball, swimming etc.
To answer why Fijians are always happy? It's because we pray, we pray a lot. And we know that no matter what happens, what adversity may come God will protect us 🙏

@@jonathonbrown7558 Nah..not really.Genetically,we are related to Asian than African.Matter of fact we are not even related to African.Just because we have dark skin doesn't mean we African
Fijian's don't have African descent. Well all humans have African descent. But in the context of the origins of Melanesians and Polynesians, Mel-Fijians are descended from Australiods (think New Guineans). They have obviously mixed a lot, and so I would say they are ethnically both but culturally more Polynesian.
The description of Polynesia Vs Melanesia couldn't be more wrong. "Melanesia" is an outdated and racist term, coined by colonising Europeans who believed that the darker skinned people who lived in Polynesia, descended from Africa. This is incorrect. While there are a number of ancient people groups present in the area, Polynesians in the western Pacific and Polynesians in Fiji speak related languages and are closely related. All of these groups can trace a connection to Polynesians settlers from southeast Asia.
@@josephrokoqo Melanesians were one of the first humans to ever move out of Africa back in the exodus era so environmental conditions and natural selection would determine how much of the African phenotypes retained. Melanesia has similar environmental conditions to Africa, so some African physical features were retained.
It’s not part of Australia. Fun fact, it’s actually closer to New Zealand! It is fairly close to Australia but still, it’s a 4 hour flight away and it is an independent country.
oy... melanesians are not of african descent. linguistically they and polynesians are both branches of austronesian peoples who originated on the island now known as taiwan, while genetically melanesians are probably more indigenous to the area. a quick fact check would be nice before a video gets published :)
It'd be odd for the assumingly Australian producers to fact check the Fijians when theyre talking about their own history/ culture. I'm not saying you're not correct about what you're saying about melanesions btw
"Some historians believe the earliest Fijian inhabitants came from the Lake Tanganyika region near Zaire; others cite Egypt; others still claim Indonesia. You might want to take this up with their education system rather than the young people here.
I was confused by her comment. I'm no expert but I always heard that they are more related genetically to Polynesians (and some other Asians) than Africans. I don't know what's true now
@@dannyaumua106 your citation from 1995 shows that this info is wildly out of date and is the reason it is no longer correct. Fijians are a Polynesian people group. It's understandable that these people were still taught incorrect history in schools (they look like they could have attended school a fair while ago). I think what the original commenter said is correct. BuzzFeed has a responsibility when making "educational content" not to spread information that is out of date by decades.
@@marcusinie8022 youre still calling them "Polynesians" when theyre clearly Melanesians like PNG folks. Also read between their lines. Its from 95, yes, in their education system today - yes. So your gripe should be taken up with the powers that be in their education system more than the people here. You better be Fijian, an anthropogist and a historian also making these claims. Id trust this young lady over you. And if youre still upset, even better, make youre own video and share your truth.
