I remember going to the self checkout with my grandma at Giant as a little kid, I think around 2005 or so, and it was the same thing at the self checkout. I even remember the Bonuscard too!!! I miss the old Giant!!!

I enjoyed your post. I tried to explain that the local grocery stores have this technological advance to someone from another country and they were amazed. Now I can just send them a copy of the link. Plus I LIKE self checkout much better than going to a person. Machines aren't irritatingly picky about coupons and are rarely in a bad mood. If there's a problem you can always get assistance.
The self checkout at Giant Food just ripped me off of 26 cents. Kind of surprised me because I've never seen those machines screw up the change before. I was supposed to get 51 cents back but it only spit out a quarter. I suppose the coins got stuck. I wasn't going to wait around trying to get help though since sometimes it takes forever to find someone in customer service.
Most Giants have these, I live in PA, theres 8 of them 4 in the front 4 in the other side of the store, they are so nice, I love them. It is very easy, all Giants in my area have at least 4. So I think all Giants have them now. It is fast and easy. Like when you have 2 things bam bam your out the door.
BJ's on 441 just north of Southern has a similar self checkout but the voice has went down a pitch. Winn-Dixie that just closed has a self-checkout too but the conveyor belt goes throguh a short tunne
@@mamabear0408 These are actually called PSI self checkouts, IBM bought out that company for POS business, now Toshiba controls that business. Giant eagle used to have these exact checkouts back then sometime in 2009-early 2010. I saw a 2010 or 2009 video of this same checkout at a giant eagle that I can’t watch anymore… it’s either deleted or I just can’t get the right term to pop the video up.
@gadee1118 Yes, if you do what you're saying under the watchful eye of the surveillance cameras when you're at the check out an employee will come to your cart and count your items. I've seen it happen to a person in front of me who tried to take more than what they had scanned. Of course they pretended not to realize that they had done that.
Just wondering, whats with the conveyor belt?? Where are the groceries going..? :S Also, I don't mean this is a mean way at all, but you sound about 13, how do you have a credit card ?

I use self checkout my brother uses it and so does my dad my mother and other brother don't only time I will use regular checkout is if buy a crap load of non loaded gift cards basically my mother may use self checkout here and there but mostly she uses regular checkout she uses Sam's club scan and go but I love self checkout so that no rude person gets mad behind me or a person talks to the cashier like they're friends or something

This is from a Giant Landover store. Giant-Carlisle is from mostly PA and their Ez-scans are different with no conveyor belts.
