it's good to raise awareness on why this happens, so people can make more informed moral decisions when interacting with leaks. i've always wondered how their shit gets leaked, i had a theory that the rappers themselves or someone around them was leaking songs on purpose to make a profit. because it seems like mainly rap artist get their songs leaked. whilst other artists in different genres dont seem to deal with this issue. but you've made it clear how they can easily hack rap artist and be at the leakers mercy. i think an interesting follow up video would be, why does it seems to be like certain type artists are getting leaked. and what do their fans share in common. also side note: the way they leaked mj's music was nothing like how the other artist get their music leaked. this guy broke in

If artists just used cold storage instead of clouds, the songs would be unobtainable to hackers. It requires going the extra mile, but would be worth it. Itâs crazy, with how much moneyâs in it all, that they donât take the necessary precautions.

@@Miguel-jm2pf well proper OPSEC is more than a little bit of work. Itâs a lifestyle. Backing up and encrypting all of your data. Not letting any of it leak. Using high entropy passwords and multi factor authentication. Itâs easy to miss one thing or get lazy and leave yourself exposed even the slightest. A hacker only needs one point of entry and your dataâs compromised.

one thing id like to add is that the recent trend of deluxe albums seems to be influenced by the rise of leaks, we can only hope the music industry continues to evolve with things like the leak community and actually provide these songs legally, nobody is gonna complain if they drop the b sides or demos to their albums separately. leaks take away from anniversary releases of albums.
Iâm not sure thatâs fully true Iâve had deluxe albums from the early 90s and 2000s that have snippets and demos on. All the leaks do is take the control away from the artist

As a fan of these artists I like hearing these tracks but as a mix engineer I canât stand how bad the quality is on some of these songs. Most are in the early stage of mixing so they sound no where close to the quality that you hear on albums

Because the value of music is non existent these days, It was already bad back in the day when you had people pirating music in response to the music industry insane album prices(16.99 for an album that only had two songs on it that was good was such a scam that's why the NOW series took off). The day people figured out you didn't have to pay for music to hear it, that became a moto of an entire generation. And considering stan culture is already a plague for artists, consumers and critics, what you now have is an entire generation of consumers who do not want to pay for music and consider the artist their entertainment puppet. They want the music when they want it instead of waiting, and would rather pay a company pennies for an access of music to the detriment of the artist who now make at this point zero revenue from their music. For a big artist this is bad, but workable, for a up and coming artist this is bad, but manageable, but for a new artist this is a disaster. But in the end everyone who creates music will never see the true value of their music, and I predict even their catalogs if it wasn't made in the last century will be of low value even when they sell it off. And I don't EVEN want to get into the fact that artists spent decades fighting for control back over their masters and catalogs, but in this day of age you're better off selling it now than to keep it. It's honestly sad and if we're lucky maybe one day the indie market will be the new mainstream market and the control over music will be back in artists hands again.
