The Flying Kipper Theme (Series 1)

- Here it is, one of the grandest scores from Series 1. I love the power of the strings in this theme, it just screams '80s. It's a shame this theme was only used once in the show, maybe if Henry had more action in Series 2, it may have appeared there too.

Original Music by Mike O'Donnell and Junior Campbell - Hry
Hey everyone.
Just a quick message. While I know a lot of you enjoy the recreations of O'Donnell and Campbell's legendary work for TTTE. I'd also really appreciate if you'd take a look at music I've written too. I'm looking to experiment and expand as a composer to test my range and ideas, the Thomas stuff is nostalgic and everything but the original works is what I really enjoy to work with. Still on the 80s wave at the moment as there are some sounds I still want to tackle. Here’s a playlist of all the 80s and 90s stuff. I’ve arranged them similar to how they are on SoundCloud. Enjoy!

Every time you make one of these magical recreations, it sounds as if you ripped it off of the original episode very cleanly, IT'S THAT CLOSE! You have cooked this cake to perfection!🤌👏

I checked out your music and it ain’t half bad!
(The choose your fighter one is quite nice👌)

So, I’m a teacher. I teach elementary school students grades 3 to 5. Sometimes when my kids have finished their work, I let them play on their school iPads before recess and lunch. A lot of the time, they’ll play educational games, but sometimes they’ll watch CZcams.
The other day, while I was sorting classwork, I heard this coming from one of the kids’ iPads, and I stopped dead. This piece of music had been lodged in my brain for 30 years, and I recognized it immediately. I said, out loud, “is that ‘The Flying Kipper’?” I went over to where the kid was sitting, and sure enough, they were watching “The Flying Kipper.”
It’s amazing to me how something I heard literal decades ago, from a time of my life I barely remember, can bring me right back to the time in my life when I rode a tricycle and I would hug Dad’s knees when he got home.
Thank you for this.
That is an amazing memory and made me tear up thinking about my childhood. Thank you.
That kid is gonna grow up to be a fine individual. Teach them well.
"LOOK WHAT YOU'VE DONE TO MY BLOODY COCO MAN!" Said the fireman.
"I had this train-
It'll buff out," the driver protested.
He pretty much did say that in the original book. XD
Is this to be read in James May’s voice?
@@Mike-zh1ew yup
Except the guard couldn’t hear him, as the impact of several hundred tons of speeding freight train colliding with a flimsy brake van had turned him into a big red mess.
some people recreate props, some people recreate the show, this man recreates music.
Smash them together.
No, he recreates art
We need a combination of all to bring back classic Thomas
@@Numpey I, working towards making enough props to try and recreate the show
Don't forget to check out the orchestrated version of this. If you do listen, don't listen with the volume high for too long in the beginning as the notes wind up unexpectedly loud, but short.
This was probably my favorite story of season 1. The aesthetics of Henry running in pre-dawn winter, the change-up to his theme, the scary excitement of the crash, and Sir Topham Hatt's fair and blameless reaction to the accident leading to Henry having a better existence after being remade as a Black 5.
Black 5?
@@jamesfracasse8178 Also known as the LMS Stanier Class 5.
@@jamesfracasse8178 it’s the model Henry’s new shape is based after
This was easily season 1’s best yeah. My top 5 of season 1 is:
1. The flying kipper
2. Off the rails
3. Dirty objects
4. Down the mine
5. Coal
@@Daansstuff-alt Wheres break down train? Thomas kicks track backside 😂😂😂😂😊
Finally a flying kipper theme where you don’t hear the narration
this is literally a recreation of the theme and not actually an instrumental
@@buzzygaming7667 Sounds instrumental
@@railfan9499 instrumental is the original recording with no vocals
@@buzzygaming7667 Too close to tell. Perhaps this was what the original master recording before Ringo's narration sounded like.
@@paisleepunk Mike O' Donnel and Junior Campbell
The transition in this music is bone chilling. You start out feeling pumped, then you feel hopeful as the music progresses…then it slows down, then it gets you feeling a little worried, then it ends with the crash. TTTE’s ability to provide great music an pod play with emotions is pretty neat.
A blind person could hear just the music and know something was amiss when the tone changed
Leave it to Mike O' Donnel!

"The Kipper is due." Said the Driver.
"Who cares?" Said the Fireman, "This is good cocoa!"
@@sodortv HENRYCRASH.
“Come on, fireman. Back to our engine.”
They got out, just in time.
@@sodortv Actually the Guard died. Guards are not allowed to leave breakvans unless they tell he other crew, who went back to their engine. Unless they spotted henry in time. But its unlikely that the Guard would make it out alive.
@@privateerbouncher9622 Well, if you consider that Henry alone would have weighed some 75 tons and the entire Flying Kipper probably around 200 tons, and it’s traveling at ~45 mph directly into a brake van, which is not a very sturdy piece of equipment... yeah, the guard would have died instantly and left a big red mess.
In the original book, all three of them were in the van when the crash occurred. But it's treated in a more comedic fashion, as they are sent flying and land in the snow, with the fireman being more concerned that he spilled his cocoa.

Henry’s best run to this day. Even if it ended the way it did.
At least in fish the flying kipper didn't end badly for Henry can't say the same for duck tho
@@ReytheBae I genuinely felt bad for Duck in that episode. None of that was his or Henry’s fault.
BlaxxShadow were any of the shown flying kipper incidents his fault? Even something in the air was thomas's driver's fault for not telling henry's driver.
@@davidseth4279 I actually just watched an instrumental of that episode, but it certainly didn’t look like it was.
@Alex Heredia Poor Henry, not even God loved him, he crashed him thinking he'd be scrapped because he knew he left him unfinished 😂

My personal favorite episode. It only would have been beaten by Super Rescue if it was adapted. This excellent soundtrack is part of the reason why it is the best, in my opinion.
No mystery who your favourite character is then, eh
It’s Henry
With the number of siblings Spiteful Brakevan has lost, you can see why he's always pissed.

I am filled with determination to turn in my work early now. All thanks to listening to this.
!
Henry at his best.
What was his worst? When he was removed entirely?
My god. I can’t explain the feeling I get hearing this again. It brings back such memories. The images of Henry moving through the cold morning before the sun rising.
and imagine how scared henry was in that situation, you're speeding down the line and then you see a static train in your path, and then waiting what looks to be hours for help
Sounds exactly like it came out of the show, absolutely amazing work.
The Flying Kipper is one of my favourite episodes of Thomas. The music makes me a bit emotional especially because of the crash but thankfully for Henry his reconstruction helped to make him a better engine.

This is the train the railway men call: The Flying Kipper.
Between that introduction line and the sound of this majestic theme, I don’t see why it wouldn’t be remembered for a quite a long time!
I'm so happy they never gave up on the idea of a tv-based railway series. This music is a gem, and these restorations? Mm! SA, you d'man ;D
This song just shows how Henry always believed in himself. Even when he was threatened to be sent away by Sir Topham Hatt, he never gave up, he just kept on pushing forward. This is why Henry is one of those characters.
Like edward
Well, Topham Didn't Really Threaten Henry Too Be Sent Away, And He Never Did. He Said That If He Continuous To Have Problems, He"ll Have To Stay In The Shed...

The music you might hear when you see a majestic green golieth of an engine chuffing through the frozen dawn air. Truly magnificent
And people say that perfection is impossible! You’re proving them wrong.
Those background chords have some crazy awesome dissonance at some points and it beautiful
I love the synthesized feel of it, makes it feel grand and booming, it’s quite nice
That theme really does capture the wintery morning atmosphere so beautifully - probably one of the reasons it sticks in my mind as a fond memory. One thing I would've quite liked to hear, though, is an alternate version of the Season 1 variant in which Henry actually finishes his journey safely.
We have that now!
Beautiful restoration of one of my favorite season 1 themes. Nice job!
I really love this music. It became a huge favourite of mine since I first saw 'The Flying Kipper'. It truly was a super way to describe the trip for Henry.

Even without the narration, I can still hear Ringo Starr‘s voice
Henry’s driver: All clear Henry away we go
Clouds of smoke and steam poured from his funnel into the the cold air, and the fires light Shawn brightly, “hurry hurry hurry” panted Henry!
The setting is always a cold morning but it makes feel so warm inside. That is the affect of the Flying Kipper!!!
Wonderful job Ty! You've gone above and beyond with this theme, giving it justice no doubt! ❤️
This music always uneased me whenever I watched The Flying Kipper because I knew something bad was about to happen.
"Don't tell Gordon, but I think if we pull the Kipper nicely, Sir Topham Hatt will let us pull The Express."
The flagship theme of Series 1, without a doubt!
I bet when Henry here’s this theme he pulls the flying kipper
“Men hustled and shouted. The last door banged, the guard blew his whistle. The Flying Kipper was ready to go.”
Well done! I’m totally not shedding a tear from the nostalgia I’m getting
The original season 1 versions of these themes (as well as the show) will always be the best ones!
You’ve certainly been able to bring this Majestic Piece to life!
This music is so good it’s actually making me cry! Great job!

Leaving your house before 6 am
Still one of the best, but also worst crash in the TTTE Series imo, the way that the whole brake van was lifted into the air and sandwiched between Henry and the truck, was stunning, and you can tell it was bad when Henry comes off the rails and turns over, and gets sent to Crewe for a redesign, whether you think he did get a redesign or if you think there are ‘two Henry’s’. I’ll leave that to you to decide.
Issa vibe!
