    Hey Drake and Monique, i just finished watching your trip on Bella Luna and it was a real pleasure! AJ looks like a fantastic Captain. I loved the part where he did the knot class. Monique is funny and made me laugh during the videos, lovely girlfriend! I do hope her seasickness is a bit better now. And to you Drake, you make awesome videos. The way you shoot and give comments, makes people enjoy watching your videos. Also credits to Monique for editing them. Thanks!

    I just now scrolled down and found ALL these other great videos that I never knew existed!I dont know why but for some reason I assumed that you and Monique have only been an item since the beginning of this latest voyage around the world.But this video is from 2012.You folks are so so very blessed to get to go all these places.And I feel so blessed that you filmed enough to inspire me to want to do more traveling.I have been all over the united states outside of maine and the dakotas.But I would love to experience the rest of this beautiful blue marble.Arent we so blessed to have a planet that provides for us wherever we should wonder off to?!And how very blessdd you are to get to determine how much of civilization you want and how much solitude you want.To be able to pull anchor and just go wherever whenever.I am completely and utterly fasinated by the diversity of it all.It seems to me that there should be some sort of washing machine that uses very little power and takes up very little space on a boat.Maybe a bucket with a powerful drill with a paddle bit and you can just hit the forward and reverse button a few times.Or you could have "infinite joy" from a bucket and washboard,lol.Anyways,great video as always.

    Jorge! Man I can't wait to get to NYC! Our boat Paragon is 'on the hard' in a dusty boatyard in Oriental, North Carolina. We need to change a bunch of seacocks, install a depth/speed/temp transducer, paint the topsides and bottom, and do some fiberglass repair on the rudder.. We're in the middle of an oppressive heat wave right now with high temps of 95-100 every day for the past week, which is making the work almost impossible. We look forward to seeing you in NYC as soon as we can get there!

    Hey Scott,
    Glad you like the the upgrades! As long as our internet speed allows us to upload the higher quality, we will continue to do so. We're learning so much every day and appreciate all the comments. Thanks for the kind words, though I did have to console Drake a bit. *grin* We've got some great episodes coming up...let us know what you think! --- blue skies, mo

    Hello Drake, Hello Mo, I found your postings on youtube and got hooked. I just wanted to let you know and because of you I am buying a 26ft. Macgregor and when I retire in a few years I am going to do the "great loop." I hope to be able to stop by and say hello when passing by N.C. After that... who knows!
    I hope you have lots more videos to come! Thanks for all of them.

    Hi IchiTrois, thanks for checking out our videos. Yes, Mo and I live aboard our Westsail 42 named 'Paragon.' I've lived aboard since 1994 and since 2002 have been sailing/wandering between Nova Scotia and Venezuela. A year ago I started making sailing documentary videos to tell stories. I've crewed on other boats (Fiona, Fellowship, Bella Luna) in exchange for permission to produce films about those voyages. Soon Mo and I will be producing our own voyage videos aboard Paragon. Happy sailing,

    Hello Jimmy47904,
    Congratulations...that is so exciting! You must be looking forward to such a wonderful journey. We have a friend who completed this a few years ago, and his eyes still shine with excitement when describing his many adventures. Thank you so much for watching. As long as people continue to enjoy our videos, we will keep producing them. ---safe travels, mo

    hi deislanddave,
    you're absolutely correct, there are quite a few places you can check in and out of in the british virgin islands. In fact, when we left we cleared out of spanish town on virgin gorda. in this video we were just mentioning points on tortola, though it is good to be familiar with all customs locations. thanks for the extra info! -- safe travels, mo

    There are more ports of entry for private boats: Roadtown, West End/Soper's Hole, Great Harbor JVD, Spanish Town/The Village VG, and Gun Creek North Sound VG. Private aircraft can check in at Beef Island and Anegada airports.

  • @momoparagon
    @momoparagon Před 12 lety

    Ahhhh, I seriously wish we were able to visit JVD. There were so many people that insisted it was their favourite of all the islands but, alas, we were unable to make it with our time constraints. Next time.

    Another great video of the real sail life. Question from last video. You said the Swan was different than your full keel and it was a tougher ride, but I looked it up and it’s 35k pounds. How could a boat that heavy be a rough ride?

    • @drakeParagon
      @drakeParagon  Před 6 lety

      Hi Jay, Than you and great question. It's kind of hard for me to explain, but I'll try. :) The Swan 48's fin keel makes her much more nimble and manoeuvrable than the Westail 42's full keel, but it also takes a lot more steering correction to keep her on course - a lot more work for the helmsman or autopilot. The Westsail 42's full keel makes her track very nicely, staying on course with less steering corrections, but she is much slower to make bigger turns. Having sailed both, what I remember in particular from sailing on the Swan is that when we were sailing fast in rough conditions the bow would repeatedly rise up and then smash down into the water with a bang. On Swan 48 Bella Luna, this once happened with such force that the speed transducer popped out of the thru hull and into a locker, leaving a completely open thru hull which almost sank the boat. But I think on my Westsail 42 the hull is shaped so differently that this kind of impact on the bow doesn't happen with as much force. I also found this article online which compares fin keel designs to full keel design which I think you might find interesting.

    @deislanddave Před 12 lety

    No worries mate. In future be advised that the fastest and easiest check-in/out is in Great Harbour JVD, even if your headed to Tortola. Coming from or going to the East I'd use Gun Creek. YMMV.

    Black pudding? I don't think I've had black pudding....what is that? I'm not certain I could have added much more. I needed that four mile walk after such a large breakfast. *grin*
    I have friends in both Liverpool and Ware, so spending time in England is near the top of my list! I've been to London, but don't really count that time as it was more of a layover during a longer flight. Had just enough time to dash around a bit before heading back to the airport.
