    I use my defender 90 td5 as my preferable daily driver and I find it rather comfortable on the highway - it only has stage 1 remap and larger inter cooler ,but sits at 70-80 miles per hour without a problem and the suspension on the standard tyres is rather pleasant I find . Your 90 looks brilliant and worth every penny you’ve spent so far on it I reckon . I also have had a love affair with defenders for ages but started my land rover journey with disco and finally bought my 90. I agree with you on the td5 preference and once remapped it’s a perfect fit really . Keep making those videos- its informative and well narrated

    Honestly ditch the mud tyres unless your 90% off road, its pretty much a comfort mod on its own, we don't even run them on our farm truck which is a TD5 Double Cab.

    The prices you are talking about are in the UK - the Defender prices in Australia have gone even more insane! I bought my 2012 Puma 90 early last year and I was hesitant at the time because the price was crazy, but since then the prices have still gone up by about 10% in the last year

    In Oct 2020 in paid 20k BPS for a 2002 90 TD5 in Sweden, yes its expensive here. I have spent about another 10k to fix up almost to a running state I want. It is like owning a helicopter maintenance wise, and costs a mint in fuel, but I love it.

    I think your Defender looks really nice, in that tasteful colour and equipment it is not the Tonker toy that many are presented as, but that is the joy of a Defender, it can be whatever you want it to be, I am often mystified by the comments of how noisy and uncomfortable driving a Defender is, I have driven my 90 CSW for 15 years now, and I find it to be very easy and pleasant to drive, the high up driving position is a huge advantage over the low slung eurobox type, and spares are plentiful, although I am sure that many of the tales of unreliability stem from the use of aftermarket parts being fitted, these are really not to be recommended, my Defender has only just had new brake pads fitted after 120,000 miles, and I do not consider that to be an expensive running cost, so the only thing I would strongly advise is that you get an agreed value from your insurer, they are notorious under valuers of vehicles, being happy to take your premium, but always failing to make a fair payment, I payed £13,000 for a Defender, it was written off 2 years later, and I was offered £3000 from the insurer! It took a great deal of negotiating to get them up to £6,000, so make sure you clear that aspect up. Chris B.

    It's definitely worth over £20000, probably more. See if you can get to drive a Puma and see how it compares with the TD5. A lot of owners don't like them as they just sound like a Transit van. They are a lot quicker though, and will do 90 all the way to the ECU limited speed, (if your brave enough). The MT82 gearbox has to be treated with some respect, baulking into 2nd gear and notchy changes (also into second) especially when cold is common. It's not the sort of gearbox you can drive like a Golf GTi. I would say the interior is an improvement in the Puma range, the heater being especially so. My 2015 has only done 17800 but has already had a new off side hub seal kit and a MAF sensor, both under warranty which makes me feel better having "got some money back". They are really great trucks, I won't be selling mine, anytime soon.

    • @thedoctorsgarage
      @thedoctorsgarage  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks Tony- a 2015 with 17800miles is a great defender to hold on to! Never been in a puma but would like to try. The stage 2 remap has made a massive difference for the acceleration and handling but still feels like a aircraft when I get to 50mph 😂
