I’ve been trying to find affordable housing ever since I became seriously ill, emergency surgery, lost my apartment while in a nursing home & it was rent controlled. I’ve now been in a horrible nursing home for almost 4 years, in a wheelchair & am stuck here where the food isn’t fit for livestock & no available apartments I can find. I wonder if this man has a real home yet. I hope so.

When I was growing up in southern california there were a few homeless people in the town who were like landmarks just living as part of the town. They never asked anyone for money, never bothered anybody, and basically just had a particular corner somewhere in the town where they slept. I think this is how it used to be most places before things got so out of control in california

You need to get rid of your misconceptions and educate yourself. Many homeless people want homes and deserve homes. Most homeless people don’t become homeless from their own fault or nefarious reasons but from years of struggling. It’s perceptions like yours that leak into politics and make it harder for these people to move forward with their lives.

I'm even surprised they even showed that. It's all over California. The biggest encampment is in Sacromento. They camp up and down the Sacromento river. Just about ever city town has homeless/drug addicts most are just Drug addiction PROBLEM. The one's that lost there home on different circumstances are not homeless for long. They get right back on there feet with help. The other's just want to be left alone to do there DRUG'S! As long as the politicians are giving them money to buy drug's that's what they are going to do.
It never was this bad in the 1970s 80s. Now they open up the boarder to let the phentenlyol and all the other drug's they can kill people with.
It's going to get even worse when the druggies need that fix. Home invasion, robberies.

Did she say that he was lazy ? I would agree with you that 1/3 of the population that is homeless is probably because they are underemployed and the cost of living is too high. This creates a "Circle of Poverty" which may force the individual to work multiple jobs or have to relocate. Also, I am going to assume that the other 2/3 's that are homeless may have a SUD/or a mental health issue.
Anyway, one can only hope that this man and the others in the area will be offered housing shortly.

The first step to helping to homeless is to get them to feel pride. This man is clearly a proud man, who's actively working to make his situation better, he's improving the world around him (arguably) and he's not hurting anyone.
He has a home. It might not be on private land, but I can't think of any better use for wasted public space.

It's embarrassing that this news reporter is going out of her way to alert authorities tree that he's living there. She didn't have to call every authority she can think of. Especially when the business owners there have no issue.
A compassionate government that’s for the people would recognize this man’s brilliance and hire him to landscape and keep up the area. They could even create a partnership with a local architectural college where the students could collaborate with the man to assist him in constructing a more stable sustainable and safe house. They would give him additional paint and materials to do his recycled art. He would become an attraction that people seek out to admire

The homeless man has more pride than the majority of people who live in homes and other places. A lot of people's yards are messy and they don't pick up after themselves. People throw trash out of the window as they are driving by. We have random people who park along side the sidewalk. When they are gone all that's left is soda bottles, taco bags, candy wrappers, beer cans, used condoms, used up pads and so much more other disgusting trash. We live in the good side of town, there are three schools all in walking distance. And a shopping mall, there are restaurants located in either side. Going back to cleaning up, it's either my husband or I who are left picking up other idiot people's trash. Not many people have pride or want to make this world a better place. I feel that the littering has gotten worse with each passing year in our location. I don't want to blame the three apartments that are located all around us. I've seen many grown men, women and teenagers who have common sense and don't litter. Let's just put it plain and simple when a person is told at a young age to clean up after oneself, it becomes automatic. You make your bed, wash dishes, put your dirty clothes in the basket near the washer. You put your dirty dishes near the sink and if you want it's ok to wash them then put them away. It's elementary in other words plain and simple.
Just the thought of the city making him tear this place down makes me cry, hope it’s still there today but I sadly don’t think it is because that intersection looks familiar and I’ve recently been around there and never noticed that building.
He's just a man trying to make the best of his situation. He isnt doing anything to anyone and he is respectful and helpful. He takes pride in his work and already has it hard, don't make it harder because you don't understand. I've been out in those streets, cold/rain/heat... It sucks. But you gotta see the positive and at the end of the day do what makes you happy

Hi. My brother and I have a Christian ministry, for 9 years now. We do many things but our favorite is...serving the homeless every day. We know MANY Veterans! Most of the Vets that we know can't make logical decisions concerning health or shelter. We get them the help they need...including food, clothes, shelter, rehab and medical attention. Please don't assume they all refuse help... some just don't understand. They are broken! Please pray for our Veterans and help them when you can. God bless them. God bless everyone here too!

I have witnessed homeless Veterans helping the homeless to survive. I have seen them share food, their own blankets, and clothes that they need for themselves. Yes they really give the shirt off their backs!!! I have seen Veterans purposely wait in line...last! Last in case we run out of food...(which we never will)...but they don't always know that. They are STILL SERVING and HELPING others....even in the woods. When I need help carrying boxes to the site or handing things out...the Veterans are the FIRST to offer help. I'm sure there are some Vets that aren't as kind but it makes me think that there's a good reason for it. They are unhealthy. Anyway, I love them...and I do my best to show love and concern especially for all that they have done for us. I am THANKFUL.

Could you imagine. If instead of coming with a bad attitude and a bundle of fines, except maybe in an extreme case of major safety issues. If we were able to build. A multi dome home, a giant Habitrail. A nice and functional tree house, or a Bio sphere looking house. Your imagination would be the limit.....with very little limitations, properly Strapped or Anchored down, boy we'd really see some good Home Grown American ingenuity

Actually, it is easy to acquire housing in California. There's a ton of programs that give people free housing & govt subsidies housing. People can get whole houses thru a program, never having worked a day in their life. Section 8 is another common one & widely offered when one goes to social services. California hooks up undocumented people with free housing & other services. Ur telling me people who don't speak English that just arrived here from another country have an easier time acquiring free govt stuff than people born here? Well, they do because this stuff is easy for them compared to their home countries & they take whatever is offered. Social services always gets in touch with them & the state helps them more too. What you can do, if ur an uninformed american is to take a trip to social services & see what you qualify for. You will be surprised at all the stuff u can get when ur unemployed. I know people who live off the system. Amazing & ridiculous but it's all there.
