We use to hang out at a bar & grill where Billie Joe’s mom was a waitress. He was a little kid hanging around the place waiting for his mom to get off work. We all grew up in the same town went to the same schools. Proud of the local kid. he never forgot. Still goes to HS footballs games and plays “ secret” shows at local bars.
Was that the funky log cabin place in El Cerrito? That's where they played their first gig. Billie still "sneaks" into Gilman on occasion.

I want to thank you for this reaction, i always loved this song since i heard it but never heard the backstory and now it means more to me, i lost my dad when i was 16 from cancer , this song is so beautiful
When I first heard these guys during the release of Dookie, I thought - yeah, they're fun but likely a gimmick. But then each year there were more releases and you could hear them evolve into a true band. As I got to know their music more, I dug into more of their older stuff and this band really is worthy of their HoF induction. Aside from U2, probably the only 30+ year band who'll I'll appreciate from the beginning of their careers to the end. Love these guys.

When Green Day was inducted into the rock n roll hall of fame I teared up just thinking of the 30 plus year journey they have taken to get there and they are still going strong. If you get the chance you should watch the rock n roll hall of fame speeches green day makes.
My story to this song is I found out my brother in law had cancer in September and the outlook wasn’t good at all. Yes he is fine today many years later!! Thankfully This song is special to me I also just adore this band!!

Hello again, Britt. Thanks so much for choosing The Howard Stern Show version for this song (I also really enjoyed your reaction from the same venue to "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica, ft. Miley Cyrus!). The lyrics are very touching and heartwarming.
Personally, I am so thankful that both my parents are still alive (and still married after 52 years...and counting!) but my family lost my younger sister on January 8, 2009 when she had succumb to Cystic Fibrosis (CF) at the age of 34. She was diagnosed with the cardiopulmonary disease at age 5 at a time when the average life expectancy of a CF patient was only 13! As she grew older the tech and treatments available raised that number to 31 at the time of her passing. As a result, we all had plenty of time to come to terms with her condition and prospects which helped me a lot during the grieving process. She received a double lung transplant (Duke University, Durham, NC) after waiting on the Donor List for a match for a year and a half which extended her life by nearly five years so we are forever grateful for that, and to the 17 year old organ donor who committed suicide, after which his parents honored his wish to donate his organs...thanks for sharing, thanks for listening and thanks for being You!

Also the music video for their song still breathing about Billie Joe’s anxiety, depression, suicide struggles and past drug abuse very powerful and a beautiful video

I really loved this song when I heard it on the radio. Grew to hate this song when I saw the official video. They took a beautiful song about his father and made it into an anti-military video.

Long-time Green Day fan, as they became popular when I was college-aged and I also got to in my last relationship watch an eleven-year-old tween girl grow into an 18 year old woman, and she and her friends discovered Green Day; they seem to just keep living on.
In fact, when she was around 15, she just had to go as Billie Joe Armstrong to a Halloween party, and she ruined one of my best dress shirts and ties because she said it exactly matched what he was wearing in the video for one of her favorite Green Day songs, and she ruined it because she got lipstick all over it and dripping mascara and all kinds of stuff, but you know what? I wasn't pissed at all. I was overjoyed that we could share the same music with the same passion generations apart and not years but decades apart. Wow. Still, your observations here are really getting to me.

Please check out Liliac. They’re a heavy metal (they call it vamp metal) band comprised of five siblings aged 15-223 The lead singer, Melody, is absolutely incredible (Janis Joplinesque). Their parents are musicians as well but are their managers. They don't perform with the kids. Try Sail Away…it starts out very light then gets harder but not too hard.
You should listen to songs from the album Dookie. There are some great songs on that album.

GD is a very mediocre band, about the same as Cold Play and a few others. None of them has done anything new. Hint: as of early 1982 there can't be any new music because every possible chord combination had been done previously.

You have to consider that I began playing drums in 1963, and all of the great music and musicians I've heard over the years.... 25 years of "new" music." About the last truly good band (other than Jazz and Blues) was Damned Yankees. Some people believe that Nirvana was something special (they weren't). Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground was doing that style of music in the mid 60's. That said, I fully understand that music companies sign the "best" bands from what is/was available at a given time period, young people listen to what is played on the radio, and it becomes a part of their lives.... and they relate to it as they grow up.... it inspires memories.
