My recent experience with Hisense is that even when you turn off motion smoothing, it's still not completely off. For picture modes like Dolby Vision, you still have to turn it off there as well. And with Dolby Vision, the settings for that don't appear unless you're inputting a DV signal.

@@robwatumd It seems that you can but you need to make sure that you input every type of picture sub-mode (like Dolby Vision) that you can because those sub-modes all have their own unique settings menus that are only accessible when that particular sub-mode is being input. And some measure of motion-smoothing is turned on by default in all of them -- even if you happen to be using Filmmaker Mode. The implementation is completely ridiculous...and insidious.

And are the videos capable of playing the audio formats of AC3, DTS, and AAC? I'm asking because I watch a lot of videos from a USB card on an LG TV that is compatible with all those things. But, a Toshiba TV I have is only compatible with the outdated FAT32 format so only very small files can work.

You sound sick.. so get well soon..! Can you focus on how it compares to U8H? What has improved over the previous models? Can you dig deeper into the number of dimming zones for both U8H and U8K (also TCL ones)!

I put mine at Max brightness on the Vivid setting. It will melt your eyes at night but looks great in my very bright living room. Also games on the Xbox Series X look fantastic!!!

Hello, I know the U7K model hasn't been reviewed yet, as you mentioned the U8K which mentions on specs has 1500 nits, but, does better. Would the U7K do better than 1000 nits it claims on specs? Also, a firestick plugged into 144hz hdmi slot, will it give better viewing quality? Thanks!

If companies really wanted to improve the remotes add illumination. The best remote I have is from an old Bose Lifestyle. You push a button on the back and all the keys glow. I just got a new LG and I really like the TV. The new magic remote is nice, but no backlighting.

"Almost is not good enoigh for me and more importantly, almost is not good enough for you"
This is why your reviews are always appreciated. You're always making sure you are delivering the best you can for us as followers and consumers. I have no real interest in picking up a Hisense tv, at least not anytime soon. Bought a Sony not to long ago. However, I still tune in because I always like to see how companies are moving forward and improving the products they ship. And, in some cases, get those warnings of products and/or trends rolling back progress in the space. So even though this Hisense review doesn't affect me at all, I still appreciate the transparency and work put into it.
    Keep up the great work!

Excellent video. I have the U8K 75 inch. I fine tuned SDR and HDR settings and it's awesome I think its performing like my Bravia XR A95L.

When it came to choosing between the U8H or U8K. I went with the U8H. Why? I feel there are more features on the U8H. The U8K feels more simplified. That's fine but I prefer a little more to work with in regards to settings. The super resolution may look nice but can over sharpen the image causing objects to have a slight halo around the edge. This was or still may be a feature on Sony and LG TV's but I never used it. The black level adjustment can be tricky. The U8H has something similar in the game settings and it's best to leave it at zero. Turning it up can wash out shadows. Turning it down can cause shadow crushing. Please understand these my opinions and mine alone. Always look forward to the next tech review. Keep up the amazing work. Hope you and your family are doing well.

Curious if you get a U6K in for testing because that's got to be the cheapest mini LED around... but can the rest of the TV keep up with the stunning colors?

The question is: would an average consumer be able to detect such issue (such as the blue/cyan color anomaly) in time to return it, or at all? And would they receive the VIP treatment and response that Caleb can expect from Hisense? I guess that's the price we have to pay for a "value" product: it's the luck of the draw. And most folks are overly optimistic w.r.t their chances..
