(1) WEAK FORMS. There are a large number of words in English which can have a "full" form and a "weak" form. This is because English is a stressed timed language, and in trying to make the intervals between stressed syllables equal, to give the phrase rhythm, we tend to swallow non-essential words. Thus, conjunctions, pronouns, prepositions, auxiliaries and articles are often lost.
(2) LINKING. Linking is probably what most people think of first when they think of connected speech. Linking happens when the end of one word blends into another.
(3) ELISION. Elision means the omission of one or more sounds. Generally, one sound is changed by a similar or stronger sound next to it. Sound /n/ followed by /t/ is usually pronounced as double /n/, double /t/ is often pronounced as double /d/ or /l/.
(4) ASSIMILATION. Assimilation is when two sounds combine, creating a new one.
(5) INTRUSION. Intrusion means an additional sound “intrudes” or inserts itself between others. It is often is a /j/ or /w/ or /r/ sound between two other vowel sounds.
(6) GEMINATES. They are like twins. Often when one word ends with the same letter as the beginning of the next word, you should connect the two words in your speech.

Hi Marian , Looking pretty 🥰

Mee to
I only teach conversational English for this very reason
She is the first teacher of English on CZcams
Whom I can understand clearly without subtitles...
As a native English speaker, I totally didn't realise that we did these things, but you really nailed it. We do these things we don't even realise we do!
Me too T is just like not spoken and I barely realized how many words we put together
@@jenlewis3133 Yeah. 100%. I suppose I enunciate my Ts a little more than the average North American, because I used to speak British English and retained parts of it, despite my accent having changed significantly over the years, but I totally didn't realise how much we really fuse words.
So true. I do all of these but i never knew they fall under the category of connected speech. Im learning more about the english language when watching these videos
Please dear could you be my friend?
it's normal.
I understand everything in English 😂 but hesitate to speak it
You must practice it
Duhh😂😂😂😂
I have the same problem
same here...actually I've no one to practice it..😴
Most of the Indians have same issue😅 actually reason is our native language is Hindi and we think in Hindi then convert it into English and this process takes time and thereby making us hesitate while speaking and we hardly feel problems in writing English..
I'm happy that my favourite teacher is back!!!!!
Wooooow!!!!
I post videos every Friday 😉

You are my best teacher
I am an american and we love accents!!! so if you are afraid because you have an accent do not worry, you will have people asking you how to get your accent.
Really? I'm Indian and that makes me so happy. I can speak American accent pretty well but I want to learn the British accent soooooo much ahh
@@xerxesblanche yeah We really like accents even other native speakers accents like Australian or English and even though it’s really common nowadays we are all really happy people enjoy our language
I learned British English and some people say that my English is strange and this annoys me much ((
Most America’s can’t recognize our own accent(s), so we love hearing others, it’s kind of fascinating if you compare it to Britain who find having an American accent not that cool or anything like that lol
I also wanna learn American accent
City - Cidy
Centre- Cenner
"T" be like Am I a Joke to you ...
Thanks Marina
As an American, T breaks the flow of sentences more than D does, the only exception is Th which flows effortlessly
I'm american but i say center. Actually, i find it uuuuhgly when people say cenner like tf is that. Hahaha but it's probably just my area that pronunciation is uncommon (northeast?). I feel like the people who say "carmel" also say "cenner"
@@robusterbrown1291 that's because "th" is an entirely different thing from "t" (it used to have its own character (actually two, one for the th in thy and a different one for the th in thigh), back in the day).
Of significance in this matter, most English speakers, if their dialect doesn't pronounce the word-central t, don't actually say a "d", but a glottal stop, which is more closely related to an "h", interuptting the airflow in the throat before it even Gets to the mouth. Which makes sense, given that a "d" is formed Exactly the same way as a "t", except that for the "d" you also vibrate your vocal chords (and in most dialects, if there is a vowel Immediately after the "d", it is also lengthened. Same for "b" and "g")
You should say dankas marina
@@laurencefraser yeah the problem with t between vowels is that to say it as a T requires you to stop voicing in the middle of a word, which interrupts flow.
When it comes to Marina's videos,I always like before I watch

Hi
Thank you for making my life easier 😁
😁🤗
I love watching your videos even as a native speaker, because it helps me realize what I do in my every day native tongue and helps me better carve out my Spanish skills.
I learned so much with yours videos, Marina. This summer I was learning English many times with this form. And I prefer the American accent because It sounds so different, so... It's great.
Great tips, Marina! As an English teacher myself, I feel that "linking words" will come naturally once the learner reaches a certain level and shouldn't be forced. For example, a learner shouldn't learn "gonna," but should just learn, "going to."
She is a really superb mentor teaching English! Great Thanks for production amazing Tutorials!
i've never been to america but i actually talk like americans and i decided to watch this video just so i could test if i actually talk like americans or not😭 trust me, everything she told was what i've been doing for like forever, 😭i learned all of this pronunciation from vloggers, singers, shows .. never knew something like "talk like americans" exists😭 i'm happy, thankkssss teacher❤️✨
Since I've been watching your videos and lots of movies with English subtitles on my problems with understanding natives become less and less every day. Thank you for all those videos you regularly upload and generally all the great content you produce :) Loads of love from Germany^^ (Besides, I've learned 'loads of love' from one of your videos and use it really often^^)
So happy to read that! Thank you very much 😃
