Kits are where it all started. Tamiya, associated, Losi, Kyosho never had rtr. Now believe me I do like rtr stuff, like my Redcat’s but it’d be nice to build a crawler to my specs
I totally agree with you. I own a couple of redcat gen 8's but kits are far better. You get to make them your own, instead of having a carbon copy of someone else's rig.
I just finished a gatekeeper kit and I'm building a scx10 pro atm
Agreed!
Attention all manufacturers: MORE kits, please!!! ✌
I ❤ kits!!! Nothing like a little bit of screwing, tiny nuts to twist, silicone oil to keep those shafts sliding in and out smoothly... 😳 Shock shafts what the heck do you think I was talking about 😂
😂
Agree with you on the availability of kits. So good to see companies offering them. For me RTRs have their place, but a true RC hobbyist would build their rigs at least once.
Building is the fun part! You really get to learn how it works if you build it.
Couldn't agree more!
Looking forward to seeing your build on this chassis.
Both of those bodies look great on it. It’s nice to see some kits available for the custom builders.
Sooo glad to see a builder kit. I have been waiting for Element to give us a kit for the Enduro Ecto with trailing arms.
That’s neat, as I think about the new transmission with 18 % OD and IFS I’ll begetting for my element trucks.
This is exciting to see a replacement for the 10ii kit, especially with straight axles! Funny enough a couple weeks ago I bought an original SCX10ii kit (not the V2) from a hobby store that was marked down $90 bucks. It had been up there so long they didnt have the original version in the system anymore 😅 Probably will give it to my dad to get him into the hobby.
The first one is always free 😂. He'll be hooked in no time!
Nice 1 Matt
Kit's should always be an option for serious consideration when planning a new build 👍
Agreed!
Perhaps the specific states on those license plate stickers may have something to do with present/former Axialfest locations or that Axial may have good relations with/have a production center located in a city in one of those states on said license plate stickers. Kind of wishing they would consider Michigan lol.
When the SCX103 came out the inner fenders were my favorite addition so I definitely wish Axial would of included them even tho the base camp doesn't include them.
Wow, Matt, you are busier than before Nationals:) Thank you for the great builds and reviews!!
So busy! My poor wife only sees me at dinner time!
I can't wait to see your running video
Finally ive been waiting for this kit!
now this is exciting!! will definitely be picking one of these up
Hope you enjoy it!
I'm so happy to see axial replace the raw builders kit with this.
Very cool.
I'll look into getting one very soon.
For some sort of build hahahaha
Do the beetle.
It's awesome.
Wait and see!
Yes!! Do the Bug body! That will look great!!
I just bought 2 scx10 ii kits on the last sale. Those will get phased out now. Time to stock parts.
Finally a kit im excited about!
I love a kit, for me the best part is building it!!👍
Nice this may be the one for me. I’m new to the hobby and just love my crawlers. I built the Pheonix as my first build this past winter and love it. Now I’m really wanting to build a capable hardbody trail truck. Need help deciding between the TRX4 sport or this. I do prefer the slider for all the reason mentioned. 😊
I have a TRX Sport kit and 2 SCX10IIIs (portal kit and straight axle RTR) you really can't go wrong either way. TRX4 is beefier, a bit overbuilt, almost as much of a basher as a crawler. Tons of aftermarket support. SCX10III is a little more scale the axles are more realistic especially the straights. TRX4 kit is nice because the really monotonous stuff is already done for you (links and shocks) 10III you have to build e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. I think the Vanquish kit has pre-built shocks and links like the Traxxas. A pair of shock pliers with a pivot ball tool really comes in handy for the Axial builds. There's not as much aftermarket brass for the straight axle 10III but I think diff covers and knuckles are the same as the new SCX10 Pro.
@@blastarrow5938 I do like the idea of it being stronger .
You can't really go wrong with either. It all comes down to portals or straight axles. If I had my choice (because I like to build) I would choose the BaseCamp. Thanks for watching!
The last kit I built was the first AX10 scorpion, painted a Proline FJ40 for it...maybe it's time for another!
Go for it!
That bug body done in an olden days touring beetle style would make a great trail rig
I'd like that front axle for my SCX10ii. I wonder if they're compatible.
Bought one of those Axial Scx10iii RTR when they were on sale, and kind of made my own kit. Now looking for an upgrade motor, to install. Looking for more speed than a stock motor
A good brushless system will add tons of wheelspeed! Something in the 2300kv range on 3S should do it. Thanks for watching and good luck!
@@scalebuildersguild Thank you
Have you priced up portal axles? I priced up building some axial ones from parts individually, it was roughly 360aud per diff. Purchased the basecamp purely for the diffs. Would've loved a Builder's kit with portal diffs, save paying the extra for the body and tyres and electronics I didn't need 😂😂😂
Maybe we'll see one in the future. Who knows?
@scalebuildersguild I'll still be poor in the future mate 😂😂😂 cost of living keeps going up, but work doesn't pay me any more 😂
I have the 10-2 builders kit, and the pro, this one is next just three radios and bodies and one is going to a commache body for the pro, time to do some overtime yessssssss
Have fun!
Ya its hard to build a kit that's been discontinued lol although Summit Racing down in the States has a bunch of them in stock they are going to be clearing out.
Ive been really wanting to build the ssd trail king kit with a rc4wd 87 toyota body
Can we see a build on that LC100 body that was on first.
Would love to build a 10 3. Built a 10 2 and still have my 10 1. Would be pretty cool to have 1 2 and 3 all together:-). Great vid👍
That would be cool! Thanks for watching!
Sweet a new kit! All ready got 5 crawlers and no room😢
Question..so will parts that fit the SCXIII fit the pro? Rock Pirates sliders and bed for example..
No, entirely different chassis designs. No parts port over.
My dream this year is to build a VRD Carbon, but my budget may not let me see that happen. My backup project is a custom built 24th scale crawler. Harley Designs has been a bad influence on me... heh.
He's been a bad influence on me too! Good luck with the builds!
Could you fill the link holes with hex hub pins or solder then melt the ends?🤔🤔🤔
For what purpose?
@@scalebuildersguild just to clean it up
If you wanted to do a ground-up build for a super realistic competition vehicle, would you start here or with the SSD trail king? The trail king has a lot of premium parts built on a nearly identical platform. I know the trail king is built off of the two but many people say the two is a better platform than the three
I need some clarification on what you mean by competition. If you're looking to SORRCA comp, then I don't think either of these would be my first choice. I'd go more bespoke with something like a Brazin chassis or something from TGH and make it scale from there.
@@scalebuildersguild I really accurate scale look with a hard body and interior and engine compartment and opening doors and whatnot. I have a class to call her right now that I will get no scale points toward because it's just built for performance
Does the new dig unit include a 25T Micro spline servo saver adapter piece? I've been using the Capra 2-speed set to get the standard size 25T piece
Yes! Thanks for watching!
Welcome back Axial. Why did this take so long?
So what your saying is that you dig it? 🤣 But I agree - starting form Kit is best, and a good way to have doors open. 🙂
Back in the day (early 2000’s) there weren’t even scale/crawler kits. Everything was scratch built, using parts from all types of RCs. There weren’t even any tires till RC4WD came out with Mud Slingers. You had to cut-n-shut tires to fit 1.9 wheels before then. The popular axles to use were Tamiya TLT axles and transmissions were from whatever, sometimes crazy stuff like electric drills. There was a lot of creativity back then. Good times…
You should use the corvair body from jconcepts.
A Toyota Land Cruiser Shell on a AXIAL chassis (for me THE „RC Jeep Brand“)… UNBELIEVABLE!!! (for me, as a Toyota - Guy)That i may still experience this…😂😂😂Have a nice day! I‘m looking foreward of your build… 👍👍👍😎
Stay tuned and thanks for watching!
I was looking at the 10.3 jlu kit for my next trail truck, but i like the updates on this chassis. Would the jlu body drop onto this chassis, with or without the interior?
Not with the interior, but otherwise should fit.
@@scalebuildersguild Would this transmission be more reliable than the one in the jlu kit? I've decided on the jlu 10.3 kit. And what would it take to swap from one trans to the other, just a skid and trans? I don't plan on ever using dig or 2-speed. Had a trx4 and never used any of its extra features. Thanks
My scx10ii based trail rig is my favorite chassis I own. So so sooo many aftermarket options avaliable. And it's an absolute tank at nearly 12lbs
So what's the perks vs the SCX Pro? Seems like an kinda unnecessary entry if it's just an OEM SCXIII
The Pro is a comp chassis for one, with an entirely different drivetrain. The BaseCamp is a builders kit designed with scale in mind. Also comes with a mechanical dig unit, a traditional 3 gear transmission, etc. completely different from a SCX10III.
Do you know of any kits to lift the front bumper? (I dont have a 3d printer)
I just hope they offer this kit with portals
I completely agree kits are SO IMPORTANT... Trust the guys who have gotten the RTR's and have but-loads of tires etc... because of up grades. Trust us. lol
😂
Matt have you seen they have a 11.4 link set for the scx10.3?
Have you ever built a short wheelbase base crawler?
I sure have. What you lose in breakover angle, you gain in steering radius!
@@scalebuildersguild If I use the shorter links Axial has. Speficially for the 11.4. Do you know what else needs to be done?
Hi, great video! I just bought this kit. I have a question..Does the kit come with a pinion gear for the motor? Thanks.
Yes it does, check all the bags, it should be there with the transmission assembly!
@scalebuildersguild I also bought the Hobbywing fusion SC 1200kv motor for the slow crawl performance! and on budget! after checking out reviews on CZcams! Unfortunately we don't get these in India so easily and I need to get all the stuff from the US. Wish I lived in the US..hahaha.
Infact I wanted the Redcat Ascent Fusion. The customs in India will rip me off with 100% duty. Sad
I love kits!
There were 7 videos on this exact kit from different tubers in my feed today including one from HD (Josh)...... I just wanted you to know that I chose this one over all others!!....... Just don't tell Josh, I think he gets a little jealous when your videos get more views.
That's awesome, glad you watched mine first!
@@scalebuildersguild No..... It's awesome you take the time to read and even respond to comments with so many followers.... Just don't read the comments in Josh's video! 😅🤣
That super beetle is way cool 🤘
Thanks 🤘
Where did that cruiser body come from?
I got it from a vendor in Eastern Europe 6 years ago. It's no longer available and it took 2 years of hassling him to get it!
Love building.. I always see piles of rcs at hobby shops waiting to be fixed😂😂😂
What body is that land cruiser and where can I get one ? ❤
Eastern Europe, no longer available. Thanks for watching!
Btw: great video as usual!
Glad you enjoyed!
Now I need to stalk this entire build from you. 😂
The Television 📺 series Knight Rider would agree with you that everyone needs a KITT….
Yeah, after many tamiya's, I got this, only issue was thr steering servo, mks ds1220, doesn't fit the stock servo location, any thoughts???
Yes, trim the mount to fit. I had the same issue with Reefs.
I removed the divider, and used the rubber mounts that came with the servo to lift it up a bit. Also seems like a spacer is needed on the steering link at the aluminum arm.
Would this go under a Suga body OK ?
Or would you suggest the pro kit in preference ?
Considering I made the sliders to fit the pro, you could make it to fit just about anything with a 12.3” wheelbase.
@@scalebuildersguild I'll stick with a pro then 😊👍
Do you think this kit is easier to build than the Gmade Buffalo??? I would like to build a brand new kit so that I can do what you did to the fordyce.
I'd say it's easier for sure!
I like it even though the transmission sits a little high IMO. I love that it doesn’t have portals! Whoo Hoo!
Were can we get the lc200 body
Not available anymore. Thanks for watching!
UTB18 is being repeatedly overlooked as a potential scale 1/10 platform.
Love a builders kit but the scx10 ii will always be da better chassis IMO
Maybe if we’re in a Time Machine! 😂
Yeaaaa!
That honcho tranny became the go to tranny in the hobby. Axial was always to go in crawling and RC4WD TF2 was always the top scaler but i think they have to release a new chassis and take it to a new level as Axial has caught up and maybe even surpass RC4WD in scale. TF2 on 1.55 still the most scale drive for me and the Honcho was always my wild platform. Too many options ans combinations and nwver enough money 💵 this is The Scaling Hobby i love.... 🤔 except the not enough money part.
Another fine video mon. Ami.
Thanks for your input and for watching!
Who makes the bug body?
Ask Josh, I got it from him.
Been wanting to build a gladiator with straight axles and the Basecamp transmission for a while now. This is perfect
Time to get out of my comfort zone (rtr) and build my first kit. Thank you for the inspiration.
Go for it! Just take your time and watch a lot of videos!
This is the one I've been waiting for. Loved the v1 RBK.
That ain't a 200 series, that's a 100 series landcruiser or a 105 as you made it straight axle all around, the 100 has IFS while the 105 has straight axles. The 100 did have that nice v8 tho
Thanks for clarifying!
Damn you AXIAL!!!!!! DAMN YOU!!!!!! 😖
Well looks like they will be getting more of my money 🤣🤣🤣
Think I may build a Square Body Chevy Mud Truck outta one of these kits. I can also use it for Sled Pulling. There is a Off Road Park close by me that has a RC Track out there. Well during the year and a half where the country decided to say screw-it and take off they built a RC Mud Pit and Sled Pulling Track out there. They are about to build one helluva Rock Course as well but I have Crawlers coming out of everywhere 🤣
“I’m not sure what they are going to do about the other…………. .:in head thinking: shit… math…. Goddammit:.”
I truly enjoy your channel, keep it up
Thanks for watching!
"Way beyond the SCX 10 .2" excuse me sir, Sir. I'm still on page 7 of my SCX 10.1 dingo kit...alright but in seriousness this looks a great kit! Of course it's a mid mounted motor and transmission so it's invalid. (That's sarcasm) But being serious, this really does seem like an extremely good kit for the price! Perhaps even better than the 10.2 builders kit!
Will this come with the dig unit
Yes, it comes with the Dig unit. I mention that in the video.
@@scalebuildersguild you were talking about the dig unit and how you'd already used it earlier in the week in the different truck but you did not actually say that it came with the dig unit.
@@christophermears7738 I don't know how you got that. I show it installed on the truck and mention what servo I'm using with the dig. Regardless, it's included.
@@scalebuildersguild definitely going to be a kit I'm going to have to pick up in the future. I'm not sure how I missed it and you video how everything is awesome and comes with The dig unit. It kind of make it a deal-breaker if it didn't come with it just my two cents from a crazy man from Maine LOL
The first crawler I built was an scx10.2... Ugh.. Never again.. Lol
Don't you have a 10.2 honcho in a closet somewhere, or did you sell that?
I would've preferred portals, once you put a big body on this isn't much more scale than an SCX Pro, though much cheaper.
It might be my racing background, but I feel like RTRs are more toys for kids, they've always been about easiness, not actually being good. I like building kits and putting in nicer accessories right away
I prefer building kits as well, but RTRs are a great way to get into the hobby and for people that aren't interested in building!
someone please help me find this body… anyone know where to get one?
I bought it six years ago from a shady guy in Eastern Europe. It took me nearly two years of nagging to get it. I wouldn’t imagine there’s any more out there.
@@scalebuildersguild wow. what a great story.. would love to do a replica of my 100 series. thanks anyways 😎.
I think this was a good move on axial's part to replace the scx10 ii builders kit. Traxxas should've done something like this instead of the stupid lifted sport.
I agree it was a great move!
#buglife. i cant wait to see what you do.
270 for this kit or 299 for the new element ifs rtr. Hmmm
Hmm, thats true. Comparing it to the Straight axle SE, the Basecamp kit gets: Metal Links, Metal shocks, dig.
But with the SE you get the StealthXF transmission which has a forward mounted motor. And well, its am RTR so you can at least drive it while you upgrade. Only saving like 30, that's maybe a pair or tires.
Orrrr, you can spend like 330 and get a Redcat Gen 8V2. Or even yet, this month on certain days get the Gen 9 for ~330. Has metal links, bearings, 2 speed, and is an RTR.
Idk weather to call it a good value compared to those, however, at 120 less than the RTR basecamp that seems like a pretty good deal.
That first body looks more like 100 series? 🤔
Yes, 100 series.
Yo what body is that I wanna buy one
I got it from the Eastern Europe five years ago. Short run, no longer available.
That body is a Land Cruiser 105
👍👍
I love the RTR Basecamp but I specifically said “I’d love a straight axle version with dig”
Needless to say I preordered as soon as I seen the FB post from Axial 😂
Dammit, I'm limited by my imagination.... guess I'll have to move on to different kit....
Hi guys, I want to change the shock absorbers on my SC
Sorry. Hi guys, I would like to change the shock absorbers on my Scx10II because the standard ones continually leak oil and don't work well. What can I mount?
Vanquish S8E’s!
thanks, you are very kind. I have the phoenix still in the box to be assembled (I will assemble it soon). I mounted the "Builders Bundle Kit" does it fit the S8E shock absorbers???
love that they did straight axles with the builder's kit
i'm a lego builder, looks fun to build an rc like those. i'm not sure building an rc is the same as building legos.
Hi! Not quite the same as building with lego, but it's definitely fun!
😩 you ended up with beatle body!!!
Like 3 different channels dropped this build kit in a video today. I don’t get. SBG content is top.
Appreciate that!
What does it smell like?
Smells good! Thanks for watching 😂
should be called scx10.3 builders kit. dunno why they changed naming scheme
Because it's not technically an SCX10III, as that features a forward mounted motor and transmission. I think by having a secondary model that uses different designs warrants a different naming structure.
@@scalebuildersguild yeah i guess your right the transmission is a big enough difference from the RTR scx10.3's
I kinda don't like the motor and gearbox postion. Hard to build a nice interior....
"Can you dig it, yes I can!" :-) Quoting here ofcourse, nonetheless, fitting I think. Thank you 👍 Perhaps a basecamp or one of the likes, Autumn build-off with HD is on the cards.
thats actually a 100/105 series not 200
I noticed that too
