  • Mylar is an incredible embroidery effect and is one of my favorites! It creates a real sparkle within embroidery designs while simultaneously reducing stitch counts, all without the need for metallic threads. Considering mylar designs do need to be digitized specifically for the "Mylar effect" we often get the question, can an existing design be edited for Mylar?
The answer is yes, but is the amount of time editing worthwhile? The first thing that needs to be clear is that having both embroidery and digitizing experience will help with this assessment. Second, having the native file format for the software you own will define how easily the task can be done.
Join John in this video as he takes a design that he digitized 15 years ago and using the native EMB file will show how the make the necessary changes to make the design shine.

Thanks to your digitizing course, I was able to follow along and understand what you did. I love that you left your registration error in, and pointed out how to fix it. It really does help to see that you are human when it comes to digitizing. We realize that mistakes are ok, and that we are capable under your tutelage.

That's awesome! Glad it was helpful. Couldn't agree more, to we all make mistakes! It's just important we learn from them. Thanks so much for the comment and for watching!

Thank you John for this lesson. I really like using Mylar, but never adapted it to an existing design. I shall give this a go and see what happens. Many thanks Gill.

I see that you have separated the black outline stitches into sections of the design. Would you digitize this design the same way for a single-needle machine?
