Absolutely. I didn't go over much here (just included 1 tiny clip), but these are the best selling games each year in specifically the US. Mario 3 came out in 1988 in Japan, and Feb of 1990 in the United States. Good catch though

Sonic the Hedgehog 1 should go STRAIGHT to the bottom where it belongs. The level right after green hill is so unbelievably ass that it's insane people liked that game even back then. I also agree with you that the sonic games are inherently flawed and have game mechanics that are at odds with the core design, though I did really enjoy Sonic Mania.
My hot take is that Ocarina of Time doesn't hold up at all. I always go back to it, get like 4 dungeons in, then stop after I realized I haven't actually had any fun.

Ocarina of time was one of the first Zelda games I finished. It's one of my favorite games of all time tbh. Even though I played it on original hardware and this game is older than I am, I really enjoyed it (with the water temple being a notable exception).
Objectively the entire Genesis sonic series is low A tier high B tier, i know this, but as a fan that's generally average in skill level on all 4 (1/2) mainline games, i wanna put all of them in S. Except 1. 1 should be in C where it belongs

Sonic 1 is bad. It has two entire zones that completely contradict the core game design (Marble zone and Labyrinth zone) forcing the player to go slowly (either by precise jumps on moving platforms, or literally making them slower by using water).
