    It's a basic fact about proof, and an important answer you need to understand.

    Agreed on the fact that you can't prove a negative, but the flip side is that you can't even know for sure if you DO have malware. That's all you can do, follow best practices, keep software (especially drivers) up to date, run regular scans, and if you value your data, backup, backup, backup. Multiple versions, multiple locations.

    Do hardware keyloggers ( like those manufactured by Keelog in Poland) leave digital forensics evidence in the windows registry even if not booted into flash drive mode to retrieve the log file? The manufacturer claims that they cannot be detected by antivirus software while in recording mode which is true. But i was wondering whether they would leave some sort of other signature in the registry that could be used to confirm that they were present at some point in the past.
    I know that IT professionals can tenuously determine whether one was there by looking at event logs for plugging in and unplugging peripheral devices like usb keyboards.

      @askleonotenboom  Před 3 lety +1

      All I can say is "maybe". You'd really have to talk to a computer forensic specialist. As you say, I could envision USB events, but then I could also envison devices smart enough to have theirs mimic that of the connected keyboard so I'm not sure it would mean anything.

    Thanks Leo. Should one run more than one software such as Defender and Malwarebytes? Any benefit to this? Issues? JimE

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  Před 3 lety

      Most folks need only one. If a second makes you feel safer, great, but realize that most REPLACE Defender, rather than working with it. More here: askleo.com/what_security_software_do_you_recommend/

    some of my key in keyboard does not work, is it possible that malware did that??

    • @askleonotenboom
      @askleonotenboom  Před rokem

      Very unlikely. More likely a problem with the keyboard itself. Borrow a USB keyboard and see if it behaves the same way.

      In general, no. On rare cases someone has managed to sneak some through, but it's typically caught quickly. It's certainly nothing I'd be concerned about.

      @@askleonotenboom I’m trying to determine how my iPhone is being monitored. I know beyond any doubt it is, just not how. I’ve gone through every app & found nothing suspicious but recently found 3 files on iCloud Drive w ? & I did not knowingly download. 1 is Messages View Service, 2 is Cache Delete Daily, & 3 is Keylogger Pro. I could only open the 1st one after several ways of trying & it has all kinds of strange code. Do these sound suspicious? I will do a factory reset but I’m just hoping to know how it was done bf I do. Thank you for asking 🙏🏼 This is very unnerving.
