the amazing thing about this is not the truck... its not the fuel.. its the ability to FIND the veg. oil. Sooo many places (restaurants) oil is contracted as owned to a recycle company... even if resturant WANTS to give it to you they can't. It's NOT THIERS. Some states/county's the local govt. "regulations" support the oil recycle businesses and will fine/and or jail the person who oil was given too and the restaurant owner.
Lots are getting into black deisel now ,ever thought about that? That rig is really something if memory serves you mentioned 2100 at 80mph ,pretty good for sure, have you pulled anything bumping gross or over yet,I bet it drags it like it don't know it's back there, egts may remind you idk, does the forklift have a perkins?
@@user-nd5jo1xx1i Yes I originally was going to try black diesel as I heated my shop with it. I got into burning veg when a friend decided to get rid of 5-600 gallons of filtered veg oil. I collected his setup and that's how I got started. I haven't towed up to max gross with it but have towed cars etc. Maybe somewhere around 16-17K. Tows well and wouldn't have an issue with towing at max gross. The fork lift has a Detroit 2-53 in it. I recently swapped that from the Buda diesel that it had. Buda was trashed, so the Detroit was swapped.
@@user-nd5jo1xx1i wvo is better than black diesel..... If he has access to it.. he should stay with it. Besides the truth is black diesel exhaust is more gross polluter than any thing in history ever put on the highways (due to additives) .
Love that the Water Meth is helping you.... Have same plan for same reasons what new injectors failed for you.... and why you think? What changes to engine computer programming (or tricks to fool computer to do what you want) did you do, to get the injection timing to best match the combustion characteristics of Veg.
This is an older Detroit diesel I installed, so no computer to worry about. The new injectors I installed were used units and one of the tips was bad, so that's what happened there.:) I put the old injectors in and no issues with those. I'll have the other ones rebuilt and install them it the future.:)
Be Interested to know what it actually costs you to do your vegetable oil fuel if you assign a dollar value to your time (because time isn’t free) and also the amount of fuel you use driving to collect the oil.
It's an hour per week to collect, process and fill my truck.:) The fuel to collect the veg oil is free as it's burning veg oil. The cost for running on diesel for 2-3 minutes and the shut down diesel costs are approximately $2.35 USD. Total savings per year is approximately $5000.00 USD, so I spend 52 hours a year on the veg system.:) That means I'm paying myself $96.00 dollars an hour making the fuel.:) I'm retired, so this makes financial sence to me.:) This route is on the way to my shop, so little time is involved collecting the oil.:)
That's very interesting, I have some questions, you only filter the vegetable oil and it precipitates for a while, like a week, that's what I understand, then you use the heavy oil or the light oil that has separated, how many filters does your oil go through? Before you decide to use it as fuel, you lose power using vegetable oil or it remains the same power as diesel.
When I mentioned the light oil, it's really the clean oil. The heaver oil that still has suspended particles in it settles out at the bottom of the barrel. Eventually all suspended particles fall out and settle. Every week or two I drain some off the bottom and use it for my oil burning furnace. No filtering happens until I fill the truck. I replace the 2um filter every 3-4 months and the 10um and 25um every 6 months. There's about a 10% power drop burning the veg oil vs diesel.:) I make some of this back by injecting water meth.:)
Because Detroit Diesel use a mechanical unit injector. Sixty gallons an hour flow through the injection system to pressurize and cool the injectors. Sixty gallons an hour is returned to the veg tank.:) A three way valve controls the veg side and the diesel side.

Very true, I live in a small city where you can still find restaurants that give it away. All the large chains have contracts like you've mentioned.

@@detroitgarage9430 have you adjusted the governor or IP timing a little or a lot?
@@coachgeo I have the governor set to 2650 and the timing is advanced to 1.47" for the injectors.
