  • In this video, we explain what a Wiper is. We go into detail in how to identify them and tell them apart from purebred stripers. We also describe in detail the best and most fun way to fish them during this time of year including what baits have been working for me so far this year. Check out this video and get out there before this opportunity ends. This bite won't last much longer and before long, you will have to wait until next spring for this type of bite to come on again.

Hey Den, just saw the nj multi species podcast episode and came over here to learn more. Now that its late july, almost august, im assuming their behavior is different. I would really aporeciate it if you could give me any advice to catch some late summer wipers

Hi. I usually don't target them in July and August but if I did, I would look for deeper water areas not too far from the night bite. The key is finding where the bait is and what depth the hybrids are using. Also early and late in the day they may show themselves chasing bait on top. Spoons are excellent now and right thru fall and winter.

@@fishden365 yes definitely I live in butler county and that’s pretty much the only place I can catch stripers and man it’s a blast! I sometimes go to shenango lake as well but haven’t had any success with them out there yet

Hey Den, love the videos! They’re always so informative. I frequent Wallenpaupack and really have trouble catching anything during the day throughout the year, from shore and on a boat. Is it imperative to fish that lake at night? That’s the only thing I haven’t tried at this point.

No, you can catch plenty of fish during the day. One of the best ways to catch multi species is to fish a drop shot with a small minnow shaped bait.
