Just to let folks know I have purchased Tom's method feeder sinkers and they are fantastic. Plenty of weight for super long casts and the pack bait sticks nice and tight. I highly recommend especially if you use a similar packbait.
Thanks Gerald!
Thanks I'm going to get me some
Haven't been a big fan of Kastking products. After trying several spinning reels all with bait runner/live liners, I've settled on the Penn Fierce IV with the live liners. Great work as usual Tom!
Right on, thanks!
Thanks for the video Tom!
Great action amigo 🎣, 🤘🏽.
Another adventure story that is loaded with all kinds of tid-bits. Thanks Tom!!
Nice video Tom!
Oh heck yea!
Nice fishing setup 👌
Thanks 👍
@@OutsidewithTom ur welcome sir 👍
Highly recommend the Daiwa Emcast. I used 4000 size for my river carp and they work great. And they're usually on sale on Amazon.
You'll be seeing those on the channel soon, thanks.
Hey Tom just a little tip I've learned over the years, I notice your leaders are about 4" and I used to use the same but I learned that big fish have a better chance to spit a short leader because they don't have room to get their body horizontal again after they pick up the bait. I lengthened my leaders to 8" last year and my average size went up to 14-16lb vs 8-12lb
Interesting theory, thanks for sharing.
Well to be fair I have started using 4" leaders when i started watching this channel and caught my biggest carp at 18 pound on a 4" rig
@@tylerbraxton1663More than one way to catch a carp.
@@OutsidewithTom that there is
If an 8 "hook link gives you the confidence that your going to catch bigger fish. I definitely would use it. Hope you catch a giant
Tom, I have watched most, if not all, of your Carp videos. Over time, my gear and fishing style have morphed to mimic yours, including your weights. So, what is the mystery 1% rig? Does it really exist? Lol. See you next Saturday.
Lol. Well, sometimes I experiment with zig rigs but it's probably more like 0.005%.
Not a fan of Kast King reels, always had problems with the drag. Thanks for the video enjoy it
I am watching from Elmira NY when I fish for carp on the Chemung River I watch my rod tip I never use alarms
👍
Yeah these NY fish typically run a mile when they go, no guessing here
Had my most successful carp session 4 hrs 6 carp i had a blast usually takes me all day to catch 1 if im lucky
Just getting into your videos and enjoying them very much. I am curious about how big the carp get where you fish, do you get anything 20, 30 or even 40lb ?? The waters seem to be a good size, but they appear to be full of small carp.
I've caught lots in the 20-25 range, but anything over 25 is a unicorn fish in this area. My theory is that most fish don't get to live long enough to get 25+. Bowfishing is popular here, and when fish get to be 20+ pounds they are easy targets. That, and the water quality is very bad due to agriculture. Iowa is not known for trophy fish of any type. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of fish I've caught, my PB common carp is 24lbs. Grass carp will get much bigger.
I’ve had some KK Sharkeys BFers for about 4 yrs and been pretty pleased. As they age you have to be careful to watch the drag lever. It’ll sometimes shift from the rear drag to the front drag. That’s when you lose fish
I haven't had that particular problem, thanks for sharing your experience with them.
Hey buddy good to see the channel growing, my lab and I look forward to watching them every Saturday morning.. the cooking channel is good too..
So I been trying to get back into the youtube thing and currently in the market for a second camera, I'm getting older now and can't make up my mind, I know you have some sort of action camera on your chestie I'd be curious to know the other camera you're using and assuming you're using a mic, what that is as well, and one final thing would be editing software ( may have asked you that before) I've been looking for about 6 weeks now and no closer to pulling the trigger on anything
Hey Ralph! The main camera is a Panasonic HC-V180 camcorder. Not sure if they make them anymore. No extra mic, just the built in Gopro mic on my chest cam. I use Filmora software to edit. Good luck with your shopping!
@OutsidewithTom last thing, and sorry to keep asking, but the paid version of filmora or the free?
@@RalphBarton-fishing Paid.
Second Chance Tackle channel has a lot of videos on repairing baitfeeder reels. I think you'll be happy with the new Daiwa's.
I hope so! Thanks Henry.
Might be the grease in the case of the bait runner portion, switch brands I cant read the brand on my tube it is wore off but I didn't have cold weather issues since switching to a different grease in the case.
Unfortunately, that didn't solve the issue for me. Thanks for the suggestion.
I bought kast king sharky reels like 4-5 years ago. I’ve caught 30+ pound fish many times on them. Between myself and friends feed got like 12 of them and had zero issue so far. I can’t speak to your fishing schedule but we caught tons of carp 17 to 35 pounds and they handle them very well. Paired them with Rod Hutchinson rods from big carp tackle. $60 a rod for 9’ 3lb test curve. Great setup
Glad they work well for you. Mine work great until the temps get below 40. Thanks for sharing your experience.
I have one large Kast King reel as a backup the stem on the reel that attached to the rod is real wiggly but hasn't broken yet.
Really enjoy learning from your videos. Not a bunch of carp experience - I’ve noticed a number of carp fishermen use long rods - why (please) is there an advantage to them? Thanks much again your videos are great
Great question. Longer casting distance and ease of fighting fish are the two main pros of long rods. On the con side, they can be difficult to manage in tight areas, and they make landing a fish by yourself more difficult. Notice in my videos that I use 9ft rods in some places, and 6.5ft rods in others. Let's not forget the biggest reason guys choose long fishing rods, because it makes them feel like big manly men.
Thanks much. Hope your season is great
Thanks, you as well.
Sorry to hear about the reels.
Gives me an excuse to buy some new ones. 😁
Sorry to hear about your Sharkys. I'm on year 3 and still going strong
Well, I went fishing 92 times in 2023, which probably equates to 5-10 years of fishing for most people. They lasted me 2 years, so I think I got a fair amount of use for the price paid.
@OutsidewithTom modifying my previous comment. All 3 of my Sharky baitfeeder clickers bit the dust. I went to Amazon and bought some cheap bite alarms and they work great and are very loud.
👍
All I use is hair rigs wouldn’t have it any other way 👍🏼
Same here. 👍
Those are hardy fish man it's ok to pick up and bring in the second with the other on shore
👍
I'm surprised you don't buy the old Shimano bait runners it can only be too much grease your current reels are playing up.
You'll see some new reels in coming videos, thanks Keith.
Do you plan on using Kastking reels again this season? Sounds like you are content with your Ugly Sticks.
KKs are out. These are the new workhorses for 2024. cabelas.xhuc.net/YgEv2j

Gotta stop watching your videos while carp fishing. Your bells make me jolt.
