  • After the quality of the previous upload of this interview degenerated, and a few requests to be able to see the interview properly again, here it is. It was a shame to lose everyone's comments but I think it's important to see JB in the best possible quality! : )
Also, I've compressed it all into one part this time, which makes things easier.

He had a great face and very expressive eyes. It's a real pleasure watching him speak and I think as a lot of other people think - that his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes is the best there ever was. It's as if he really WAS Sherlock Holmes.

I think he’s one of the best Sherlock Holmes I’ve ever seen. He plays his eccentricity to the hilt. The BBC productions were wonderful in the sets and the way the stories were told.
The acting was wonderful and both Dr. Watsons, David Burke and Edward Hardwick, were excellent. I am currently again binge-watching the series on BritBox.

Oh this man is fab. Way back in 90/91 when I did the Granada tour with my parents, I walked through that door at Baker Street but little did i realise what significance it would mean to me today. What a lovely man Jeremy was, very sociable with lots of time for his fans even when things were tough for him. His portrayal of Holmes is absolutely unbeatable. So sadly missed x

I wasnt even alive in the 80s when this series kicked off. I found the show because im a pipe smoker myself and naturally a Sherlock fan. I fell in love almost instantly with Jeremy's portrayal. It says something i'd like to think, that the man is still cultivating new fans so many years after his passing. The one and only true Sherlock! Jeremy Brett.

He will never be forgotten . He left a wonderful legacy of literature come to life. He usually played flawed, dark characters. One of my favorite performances of his was in a BBC film based on Ford Maddox Ford’s novel - The Good Soldier. He was also in a brilliant televised performance by the National Theatre of The Merchant of Venice where he played Bassanio to Laurence Olivier’s Shylock. Beautiful. He is very much loved and missed.

lovely interview, I saw the play at the Wyndham Theatre, sat in the front row of the stalls which was marvellous and a utter thrill to see Holmes so close. It was a very hot summer night, under the stage lights and wearing the heavy period costume Jeremy Brett was visibly perspiring profusely, he managed to pat his face and brow with a handkerchief with a Holmes like flourish that appeared natural as part of the act! I wish i had met him, that voice, such charisma. I never tire of watching the TV shows.

Great series. Love the bit about his earring and the response from the interviewer "if someone's lost.." British actors/actresses are so good. And the shows are so well done. They want to be successful, of course, but they treat it as a job, a craft (imo) you practice and hone your skills. It must be very hard.

5:30 -- What Brett is saying is incredibly astute, I think. Sherlock's "genius" may well be understood in the classical sense of the word, as in, a larger than life character bordering on god-like. Quite literally, it answers his own "superman" question....

Jeremy Brett was the best Sherlock Holmes, no one was better. I think it is interesting that they pointed out here that Sherlock Holmes took cocaine and an opium. But that is an important fact because it may explain his vivid imagination when solving his cases. When seeing it the first time that Sherlock Holmes was injecting something in his left arm, I was wondering what it was and why he would do that. The reaction of Dr. Watson showed that he didn’t like it. That’s why I always had the urgent need to jump in the scene and to help Sherlock Holmes so that he doesn’t need to harm himself. Later, when I was older, I figured out what it was and then it was easy to accept it. It’s part of the story. It made Sherlock Holmes what he was. A brilliant detective, a genius. ❤️

I wanted to add another comment here: If you look in his face, you will notice that there is no single muscle in face which he could not move. In other words, he was able to move all muscles. That's probably the reason why he could play all types of emotions so well without saying a single word, and you knew exactly what he tried to tell you. It's very rare, I think. There exist a lot of actors/actresses today which have a stiff face and who cannot express an emotion at all. Well, he was in the same situation when he was very young but it changed very fast then. And as Sherlock Holmes he could directly stare into your soul, the audience can practically feel how Holmes examines his clients. I'm glad he had not done the same with the interviewers in this video, they would have been probably naked now. ;-)
