"Jekyll and Hyde" is amazing too. And "Lift me up" is one of my all time favorites.
Also "A little bit off" is something special. They just tell about one of these days when you want the world to leave you alone. But they do it in a way that instantly raise your mood.
The part at the end of the video when the soldier in the parking lot see's his fellow veteran, recognizes him, and you can read his lips saying "You saved my life brother!" and picking him up to get help makes me emotional every damn time.
I cant see that part without breaking into tears.
I tear up every time as I sing my heart out.

Every time I see this video I get sad. My family has veterans in it and I'm so thankful for them coming home, I know my great uncle who fought on the beaches in Normandy never came back the same. I was the only one to ever ask him about his time in the service. I still remember all these years later how much my heart broke seeing this elderly man talk about how many friends he lost that day and over the whole war. I saw a grown man cry even all these decades later over his time in war. I remember him every time I see this video or hear it. Because he came home a broken man and it took years according to my grandma for him to recover. He passed away a few years ago and I still miss him, RIP Junior 🙏
"Remember Everything" is another deep song of theirs. The story behind it is so personal, that the band refuses to play it because of the hurt the lead vocalists feels from that song.
" GONE AWAY" is another great song by them, with the same type of theme. Thank you for the reaction I am a vet, and today I suffer from severe PTSD, I know a lot of it is from not talking about my experiences, but some things are best left unsaid
It's definitely one of their best covers. I really enjoyed how they made it their own, while selling the emotion behind it.

Gone Away resonates more with me than even Wrong Side of Heaven. Survivors guilt is a harder issue for me personally, having survived a very similar VBIED incident. Hope MrLBoyd has time to react to this one.

"A Little Bit Off" is my favourite from 5FPD's latest album. I listened to that whole album quite a lot last year, and that song always stood out for me because, even if things are going well, there's always something a little bit off, especially if you're suffering from mental illnesses. Man, this band's entire body of work is a love song to the Military. They're one of the mainstays to listen to when overseas. The love is reciprocated from the grunts for sure.
I hope you see this comment, I'd love to see your reaction to a SUPER deep cut in the same vein...."Sullivan" by Caroline's Spine. Sadly, not many people even know this song exists :/ Pick a video that shows the lyrics so you fully understand it, and I dare you not to cry. I don't care how battle-hardened you are, this song can leave you blubbering like a baby. And it's a TRUE story!
Oooof, that one gets me right in the feels.
During WW1 the British establishments came up with the bright idea of calling up men all from the same areas. The theory was they'd acclimatise more easily with friends; the reality? Entire streets lost all their young men and those men watched their friends from childhood die amongst absolute hell.
My grandfather and his four brothers all went to WW1. And, astonishingly all five came home. If you know anything of the bloodletting that was the First World War, that was virtually unheard of. "Sullivan" is how it usually went, one telegram at a time, but for some reason they were all spared. They weren't spared of the memories though...
Check out 1916 by Motorhead. Lemmy refused to sing it live and when you hear it....gulp.

The ending where he says "Jacoby...You saved my life brother" is always a gut check
"Gone Away" is another of their songs focused around Military service. The band, especially Ivan Moody, the singer, is adamant about bringing attention to/and supporting our armed forces. Another song with a message from them is "Coming Down". "When the seasons change" is a song to his children if I remember correctly.
And don't forget Blue on Black collab for our first rosponders.
Lyrically, I could see "When the Seasons Change" being written as a message to children, but not so much in terms of the video... it has a very strong message either way.
CANNOT forget their cover of Offsprings "Gone Away". Dare you not to cry on that one

"You fight for me, I fight for you." Is exactly how it should be. My father was a vietnam combat veteran. He deserved so much more than what he ended up with in the end. We MUST fight for these men and women. They give all for us, It's our duty to give back, It shouldn't even have to be a debate.

Mr. Boyd your comments at the beginning of this video are very much appreciated at least by this veteran. I'm a medically retired veteran though I did my 20. I spent the majority of that in the Infantry. I've been homeless for good portions of my time after Ingot out survived multiple suicide attempts. I've battled drug addiction and have lost my family. I've asked for help at times and been ignored by the VA. And it's nice to hear people who can put politics aside because myself and my brothers have sacrificed so much some gave everything and some need help without the hoops or the often times ineptness of the VA.
This song is a masterpiece. Probably one of their best songs.
FFDP is an amazing band and brings great messaging to their music. Please continue to explore more of their music. As a veteran, I feel they talk to not just my brothers and sisters but also to those who love us to bring attention to some hidden issues.

My dad was a Vietnam Vet that came home and was abandoned by them with his PTSD he brought home and was never the same again. He ended up abusing my family and dove deep into drugs and alcohol abuse. I Absolutely love this song and band for everything they do. Every time I see this video it brings emotions out of me I usually don't show. I know his life and my family would have been much different if he would have been helped. These situations need to be avoided and any Veteran has my utmost thanks and heartfelt gratitude for what they do for our country so we can be at home and safe with our families. I never enlisted because of how it effected my family but it doesn't change how I feel about the Veterans who fight for our lives and protect us every day. Thank you!
Thank you MrLboyd for doing a reaction to this. I just recently started watching your page last couple of months and today went through about 20 videos and seen this on there. We need more awareness of just how bad these things can be for our Veterans and only putting these things out there more will hopefully someday change this for the better.

I believe every politician in DC should have to go through VA hospitals in their state and explain to the VETS why it takes 6 month to a year just to get enrolled or to see a specialist
Or get so quickly denied benefits without assistance to obtain them.

I worked with a retired marine who spent many years of his life fighting for our freedom. He never once bragged or expected anything due to hie service, it was what he wanted to do for this country. He was a HUGE Five Finger Death Punch Fan and went to as many concerts he could. When he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at the age of 44 and eventually died shortly after, Five Finger Death Punch sent him and his family every bit of merch signed they could, and even made a personalized video for him thanking him for everything he did for our country. They go above and beyond for military service men and women, they truly believe in what they preach and I will always respect them. Great band filled with great people!
You’re absolutely right, this song is extremely powerful, as is the video. In particular, I find the part where the woman pulls her daughter away from the homeless veteran, incredibly sad. And seeing the look on his face go from a smile with a glimmer of hope as the girl goes to hand him a flower, to a look of utter defeat and despair as her mother pulls her away from what she see’s as a “filthy bum”. It’s absolutely heart wrenching, especially seeing him holding that photo of a little girl who is probably his daughter, and knowing that the girl showing him kindness likely reminds him of her. The ending is heartwarming, though. Seeing two men who served together reunited. One of them having saved the other while they were deployed. And now the one who was saved, and seems to have had more success reintegrating into society, helps the other one who has fallen on hard times in spite of his sacrifice. And more than that, he’s also a veteran himself, so he can better understand what problems the other man has and why he has them.
This is needed because society has deemed humanity as disposable. I lost someone close to me to suicide shortly after he returned from his tour... Thankyou for this

I'm a U.S. Army veteran who experiences severe PTSD and has had a couple of brushes with homelessness post service, so I really appreciate your comments and your reaction to this. I've been blessed with a lot of amazing people (many of whom were complete strangers) who helped me get back on my feet multiple times, so I am doing better than a lot of others, but it is still a struggle every day. This song hits close to home for a lot of veterans. Sometimes the wounds we bring home aren't visible, but those wounds can turn a life upside down just as well as a lost limb. These guys have done several other message-heavy songs like this, and they are all worth watching. Thank you for caring about veterans.

Combat Veteran OIF/OEF here. Loved your reaction to this song. I really wish more Americans would have this point of view. When I got off Active Duty, the issues I had the American Civilians was a simple fact, that no one thought about what we do and a simple issue could ruin their day. I went from Afghanistan to back being a civilian in college within 3 months. Culture shock!

The concept of God being a she in this song, I always took it as a representation of a soldier missing his wife back home. She was his everything. Same pedestal as God. Then, when he came home, he had changed bc of all he had been through, so he felt like he had become what she didn't like anymore. In essence, he became a devil like existence compared to her perfect angelic self that the soldier always saw her as.

Wow, extremely profound concept! It could be his wife, girlfriend or a mother. It could also be lady liberty (aka America is also considered as she), truth is there is a stark and almost tangible contrast between the civilian and military mindset. Many of those who served tend either completely isolate or gravitate towards others who were prior service. Many postings here seem supportive, yet there are still many Americans who aren't. Granted it is their choice and right ( which was purchased through the the blood, sweat, and tears of America Service Members both past and present). Yet, sadly there are those who abuse these rights to attack their fellow Americans and Service Members. Unfortunately, I both witnessed and experienced these hateful actions just outside of military bases and posts, not overseas but on good old American terra firma. These people (sic the concept of god in the song) didn't just heckle or harrass the military members, but their families; mothers, spouses and children in a varity of public settings to include schools. Their actions can and have sometimes been harmful in nature. Their words cut like a knife and could be like harbingers of death, just as their disapproving and hateful looks, for if looks could kill they will. Many don't realize that the spoken word can be a used as a weapon, for it is mightier the a double edged sword. Especially, when the hearer is already wrestling to reconcile themselves notions of honor, duty, morality, which mr. Jon q public's feels is contradictory to his preconceived perception of these terms and actions. So, again thanks for sharing this concept, it was well written.
As for the homeless Vets and those who are wrestling and trying to get an upper hand on PTSD, my heart, support and prayers are with them always.

Your reaction to this song has been the most provocative insight on the meaning behind this song. Your reaction is spot on, in the way society turns a blind eye to those who sacrifice their mental being for the (freedoms we waste). I've seen Gone Away (my favorite song by The Offspring) in several comments, and it's a great song trying to deal with loss. Some comments also listed I Apologize; that song hits closest to home for me.
To my military/vets: Check your peoples 6 if you're watching this . Even when they aren't around. I've lost 5 in the past year. 2 others tried and luckily failed.
I'm still an active duty medic going on 14 years with multiple trips. Songs like this hit us all at some point. Its a good thing as long as you have the right state of mind when you analyze the content.
We all thank you for your prospective and appreciation for what happens because people don't get it. They can't and we don't want them to, but understanding is what every generation of combat veteran has needed. That's a lost concept now.

I'm still crying. Not many songs bring tears to my eyes but this...the message...the excellence of their band and music...has me bawling like a baby. There is absolutely no excuse for our veterans to be homeless, jobless, hungry, treated like second rate citizens. I'm so ashamed of our government for not doing MORE for them. 42 years old, did 7 in the army with tours in Kosovo, Bosnia and Afghanistan. This video brings a tear to my eye every time. It’s all too easy to think that you are better off being among the 22 a day statistic. Especially after the way that we left Afghanistan and just threw away the blood sacrifice of my brothers and sisters.
As a combat vet I point to this song whenever I have trouble explaining to ppl why I did what I did. This is my favorite FFDP song. And the video says so much more.

The homeless veteran situation has to do more with mental health and the attitude that MEN are disposable.
The Veterans Administration Hospital situation has gotten better but it still is not good. So every time I hear people that want government-run healthcare, I tell them to go down to the nearest VA hospital away from DC and asks the veterans there if they had a choice and could afford it would that get personal health insurance instead of used the VA system. Wanna bet how many would take that personal insurance in a heartbeat.
They don't make up enough of the population for the politicians to care

Hey Mr. Boyd! I wanted to say I appreciate your heartfelt words and thoughts on this matter. It's an extremely complicated topic that most cannot comprehend nor relate with. I have lost numerous brothers of mine to both combat and self-infliction and I wasn't even in a combat role personally. The term PTSD gets thrown around a lot nowadays and I don't think most fully comprehend the spectrum of emotions it can produce. There is a large population of combat veterans who either cannot live with what they had to do or see, or the adrenaline is like heroin to them and self-destruct trying to keep the edge. I personally know people who freak out at loud noises, cannot sit with their back to the room, have a hard time walking down the sidewalk with others, will vomit when their brain triggers certain smells, and violently end every close relationship because they don’t feel worthy of love.
This video and song are fantastic and many of my fellow veterans get very emotional when we hear it, as it helps shed some light on the growing issue that effects such a large portion of our veterans. I think another relatable video clip is the last half of 'The Hurt Locker' and how he is unable to cope with normal life.
As veterans our benefits are constantly on the chopping block by politicians or used as pawns in passing bills. We must remember war is very expensive and we got to pay for the outcomes from it, especially the ones who did all the fighting. Mental health, medical assistance, and help with jobs and housing are the most important issues today. Some of those veterans have significant physical issues with quite a few unable to be seen, like lung, heart, brain issues, cancer, chemical exposure, loss of senses.
First and foremost, we need to figure out a way to take care of our own, then figuring out a way to limit all these unnecessary wars and conflicts is next. Educate yourselves on local and state voting. Keep out these people who rules in their own interests.

I cry at this song every time. Every single time. Especially when I know the lead singer was/is a soldier. Many people I know are soldiers, I grew up near Ft. Dix.
I have never gotten even through the first verse without breaking down. I come from a long line of military people, and have had a lot of friends who are/were veterans. These are the men and women we need to most take care of, and the ones who are most often left out of everything they need. Thank you for your powerful reaction to this. The word needs to go out that these are the ones we should be taking care of.

This song really hits home to me. I am a veteran that suffers from PTSD, Depression and Anxiety Due to time in Iraq and My father also suffers from PTSD among other things from his time in Vietnam. Bands and other people like these guys really help. We not only have an epidemic of Veterans becoming homeless but we also loose 22 veterans a day to suicide. I have a some fellow veterans that I knew who took their lives because they didn't get the help they needed and the stress, strain, fear guilt and other things were just to much for them to bare. That's 22 way to many. Its a struggle everyday but I do my best to do what I need to do to stay around not for me but for my family. I am on individual unemployability because I cant get or keep a job due to my problems from PTSD. Please do what you can to help bring awareness to others about these problems and do what you can to help the veterans in this country. Great organizations are every where even in your local community. If you need help or know someone who does please seek help before its to late. I'm a veteran and this song hits me at the core I feel this exactly. I don't feel like a hero. I have been homeless, I have been suicidal, I have felt unappreciated and even downright despised and don't know why it feels like people hate me. This video is a perfect representation of what it's like to be a veteran for a lot of us.its the closest anyone who isn't one can get to understanding
Your reaction to this song is powerful. The song itself is powerful. I suffer from PTSD, not from military service, but from the fire service and I can relate to the struggle. I am fortunate to have a very loving and understanding wife that gets me through the tough times. Some days are better than others but when the "ghosts" come for a visit it's a struggle. I appreciate you so much. I wish more people felt the way you do. I was one of the lucky ones, and even then have my battles. I've had friends who didn't make it back, and others that didn't last long after making it home. Luckily I have a close group and a huge family. If you are struggling, my ears are always open.
This one always makes me tear up. I spent six years in the Military, medical support, I served during peace time, or what was more peaceful than the last 20 years. Our government has practially abandoned our military personnel, active and non-active, and the American public, some not all, tend to think we don't deserve anything because WE chose that life. I served 10yrs in the Army and I appreciate a lot of your views and thank you for your support. Many things can be said about this situation but the comments section isn’t long enough for that. It’s unfortunate in many many ways, especially when it comes to the real lack of help when returning home. Some deal with PTSD better than others, but in my opinion, the ones who suffer the most from PTSD should be taken care of right away because it is hard to hold a job etc when a noise, image, or whatever even just boredom, allows the trauma to take over your mind, and then sometimes, it’s out of your hands and really hard to gain control again. That’s the biggest disappointment in my military career, was watching friends pass away, both physically and mentally, and out government dropped the ball with our vets(70 years ago).
And idk how many vets HERE I speak for, and I was lucky, but I saw ALOT of guys lose families over a spouse cheating while they’re away fighting. Most branches preach(not sure if it’s enforced a lot) but infidelity on our(military service members) end isn’t tolerated and can cause ALOT of problems depending on your command. I personally believe that the spouse should be held up to the EXACT standard of that situation because in combat, that’s the LAST thing you need on your mind. Then there’s always those young punks who give those guys shit, like guys do generally, but in that situation you shouldn’t do that. We had an area on the base that we’d take care of those kind of guys if they harassed someone who had something happen at home. It takes people out of focus which can cost them or someone else their lives, the wife cheats, walks away with everything the serviceman worked for and courts handle it as if it’s a joke and wife usually gets whatever because a serviceman can “afford” it. Haha, as an E6(SSG), I KNOW most CANNOT afford a lot of things. Most serviceman, unless deployed a few times or in debt with car payments, house, credit cards etc. It’s a joke and a rigged game. Has been since for 70+years. We are just a number in the military, whatever happens, happens. Let a Presidents or ALL of the govt officials kids go do what we did, then I BET ALOT of regulations will change
i am a Veteran. i served as a Military Police officer. i was injured and then medically discharged. for the first 5 year after i got out of the Army i was homeless off and on while i fought the VA for the benefits i earned while serving the country i love. this song no matter how many times i hear it i feel as if i were kicked in the chest because i lived it and those were the some of the darkest days of my life. my life is better today because of a few other veterans i have known who helped me fight the VA. there were many time i wanted to give up but it is the Soldier in me that cannot accept defeat!
