- Who doesn't love a V8? The Vauxhall/Holden Monaro, with its LS1 engine, is an utter brute. There are not many words more fitting than this to describe this Australian working-class hero.
The owner of this Monaro is no stranger to powerful cars. Andy Robinson, owner of Robinson Race Cars, produces some of the craziest drag cars the UK has seen.
Do you think the Monaro is a future classic?

Being an Australian you are bringing a tear to my eyes . I was 13 when Bathurst production racing started 1963 .
I had a 2006 a Pontiac GTO (the American version of this car, basically just a rebadged Monaro with the steering wheel on the left) and I LOVED that car. The only thing I regret in life, is selling it. I eventually boosted it and made over 700whp.
It's a shame those, and the later Chevy SS, weren't more popular. We'll never see cars like those again.
"I drive 3000hp drag cars and my daily is a Monaro...HOLDEN!...rebadged!!"
How to win every Aussies heart...Andy could go to Aussie & he would never have to buy a beer!! 🍻
Kia Kaha Andy...she's a friggin beaut!
I'm a UK Monaro owner, and one of my biggest regrets is selling the supercharged one i had, it was 615 hp and absolutely immaculate - easily one of the best in the country. Three years on and i have another Facelift CV8 which is standard power-wise but has pedders lowered suspension, rip shifter and a catback exhaust and is still quick enough with its 350hp to give you a bit of a shove when you plant the throttle. Awesome cars, and i'll quite often go into the garage with a beer and just sit and look at it.
I have a supercharged vxr8, most enjoyable car I've ever owned. Far more entertaining than the e63 or rs4 I owned before
Great to see some recognition for our cars. It's always an event taking the Monaro out and everybody seems to love it from shows to driving through towns. The car featured is the Monaro CV8, if you want more standard power and a bit more aggressive looks, check out the LS2 powered VXR with 400bhp standard.
All the performance modifications done to this Monaro the best one is the Holden badges and these are valuable in Australia
I have a LS1 Statesman.
Tuned with OTR and 3” exhaust.
Lowered suspension.
But otherwise stock.
The ultimate sleeper.
I always wanted to buy a WH/WH II Statesman or Caprice and manual swap it just for something different. Being the same wheelbase as the Commodore wagons, I’m pretty sure you could do it.
Great video and very knowledgeable background and commentary from Becky. Well done. Overseas reviewers of Aussie cars often get the details wrong but this was spot on. As an Aussie living in Aust and having Holdens all my life, it's great to see the love of the brand, especially the Monaro, travels far and still holds even after Holden's demise. Long Live the V8!
I have a vt2 HSV here in the U.K. it’s got all the Aussie mods, haltech, proflow, RHDengineering throttles bodies 😁
Just need the simmonds rims , but it’s got some other wheels
Im so sad I sold my Devil Yellow CV8. Brilliant car.
Aussie Holden Monaro! 💪
This car was built by Holden in Australia. Vauxhall just put their badge on it.
most manufacturers do that these days .....
Didn't they get a V8 and we got stuck with a V6
@@wellok1012Im pretty sure the UK got the V8. We got V8 and supercharged V6s in Australia.
Classic Badge Engineering. Done for decades.
@@BlueHopi144Manufacturers have doing it for decades.
A Jeremy Clarkson le encantaba este coche.
Otherwise known as the Pontiac GTO in America, and built by Holden of Australia
Great review, Becky. Enjoyable watch.
Still see plenty of 2004 Holden Monaro’s driving around Brisbane.
Last of the V8 interceptors…
Come on, give this beast some respect and call it by its real name. She’s a Holden Monaro through and through 😊.
She knows her cars . Great video
Nice one Becky
It sounds glorious.
I`d love to see you have a go in a Chevrolet Lumina SS UTE...the 6L version that we had in South Africa...bonkers machine...massive power with virtually no weight at the rear...soooo much fun to drive!
just a holden ss. which is the base model for Holden. HSV were better
@@brocksinclair66More expensive too
Still loving this UN of muscle cars. Definitely in my list, especially the VXR 500 version.
VXR500 can be done better these days. Buy a standard car for a lot less and modify it to surpass the 500.
Blowing out 2004 vx front , didn’t we go vy by 2004 well mine is 2004 Awd crewman ls1 auto , an the ve ssv stashed in the shed 💪🏻🍻
Pure Aussie grunt, we also had 4 door saloon, and the ute (pick up) versions fantastic freeway cruiser. BMW M5 killer
Thankfully we got the Ute too.
Not really 'pure Aussie' it's gotta Yank engine upfront!
Awesome
i love this car just got a 05 from mw perfomance and give out 700 hp
We loved our V8 etc Holden's and Fords that were built here in Australia. Unfortunately, we no longer have a new car industry on any large scale which is a shame.
A difference in the GTO market is that non-modified or minor mods specimen sells for far more than a modded one. also, the prices are generally higher here than in the video. understood that he quoted prices in pounds not US dollars.
Well done Becky
I like it a lot. Great video as well. Always top content from Goodwood along with the best racing today. 😊
Always love to see Beckt behind the wheel :)
The Maloo (pick up) version already is a classic check the prices!!!!
A muscle car coupe? with a simple chassis, uncomplicated drivetrain but plenty of potential, power and reliability? a classic you say? Yes indeed.
I remeber this car from NFSMW❤
I genuinely thought we might have an appearance from Papa Evans on this one LOL
🖤
I have a super charged manual 06 gto with the ls2
i hope the car comes up for sale !
Aussie Aussie Aussie 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
In South Africa it was called chevrolet Lumina SS....unfortunatly we never got the 2 door
Bring it back to Australia....80k plus au
Contrary to what many think, they do have proper IRS
I *Looooooove* Assuie cars.
Ah, a Westie Bogan favourite!
I have a 2000 commodore. Manual. On throttle bodies
most tragic part of this is its labelled a "Vauxhall" which brings back memories of such junk as the Vauxhall Viva here in Oz back in the 60's & 70's . Just the sound of the name , it sounds like a pain killer tablet ...
Sounds a lot like the Holden club sport now you've modified it
"I feel like I'm driving an absolute weapon" you are darling❤❤ I have the 4 door sedan SS version and they're"definitely a weapon" The sports/racing version VXR monaro came standard with a Harrop supercharger this version is just the standard Vauxhall Monaro( holden Monaro CV8) but the owner has done an excellent job on upgades👍
🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 oi, oi, oi
In Australia they go for a minimum of 35 K for a 6
Nice stock V8 80k

@@dazaspc nobody is buying a 02 cv8 for over 45k if they arent a moron
@@orion5813 Indeed it does however matter condition and mileage wise.
I would ride it alllll day
Based on the VT commodore, not VX...
The showcar was based on the VT but by the time the Monaro was released to the public, the VX was already in production.
Becky did an amazing job in this video
If Sassy was to drive a car it would be this vehicle. 😊
Been looking at these, but they suffer from rust issues from what I researched online
Any 20 year old car would.
Get it undersealed they bought them over and vauxhall never undersealed them
It's not a Vauxhall rebadged as a Holden - it's a Holden and I owned a series 3 from new for 17 years.
How can i ship it though?
Ah the elusive quick steering rack
This is great ....Even though I'm a huge Ford fan and have a FG XR6 I also really like plenty of Holdens and the last few years via VE and VF were world class..Also though with Ford the last Falcons were the same either via the 5.0 supercharged V8 or the incredible Barra 4;0 litre Turbo ..Our Aussie cars were and still are gems ...with character as opposed to the crap they build now with the charm of a wet sponge ..
sold in the USA as a Pontiac
If it's not broken ... DONT FIX IT!
The sad thing about the Holden ignoring build quality is even the OEM cars can’t put their power down in any gear… and that’s NA but the v8 6.2 litre is it’s best feature.
Oh Becky your a goddess! ❤
All wrong! The Monaro was built by Morris Industries Hong Kong and exported to Australia with Morris Holden badges, UK with Morris Leyland badges as the Morris Leyland MG Vauxhall Monaro and to US with Oldsmobile Tesla Silverado Pontiac badges as the GTO. GTO was the name of the country in Hong Kong where the Morris factory lives (Guong Tong Owong). There is no such place as Adelaide or South Australia in Australia which is in New Zealand. Every Holden from the Morris 48/215 (FX) to the Morris VF Commodore was made in Hong Kong and exported to Australia with Holden badges. The only cars made in Adelaide New Zealand Australia are Hyundai and Great Wall.
Built by Holden in Adelaide South Australia 😂🤣Yeh right. Next they'll probably say there was a Morris Holden factory in some place called Elizabeth in Adelaide South Australia. As if a town would be called a girls name, I mean come on.
Holden*
Australian corvette lol
oi oi oi
just call it a MONARO Vauxhall cheapens it
Built lower spec compared to BMW or Merc, that's right, they were built for Aussies, not Europeans, our standards, not theirs, built tougher than any European car, built to handle Australia.
Had one back in 2005, it was rubbish. A new steering rack each year, $1000 worth of tyres every year, new brake discs every two years, city driving refill the tank (75L) every 3 days, it was nothing but a money pit.
That all sounds more like your driving habits. I have a 2001 SS Ute with the 5.7 on 19 x 8.5 rims, and in the 18 years I have had it, one steering rack, tires last 3 to 4 years and in city driving I fill up once every 8 to 10 days. I paid $23K for the car, in the time I have had it, have spent around $5K on new parts.
Not heard of anyone needing a steering rack every year! You either had some very bad luck or something else was going on!
Sounds like you were driving like a total plank the entire time then.😂
Now, don't me. You now have a 4x4 living in suburbia ? (A highway pony)

She's terrific but okay, misogynist.
