Hi I’m Siobhan from Ultrasound Ireland.
According to a study conducted by two Cornell University Biologists, morning sickness is an important and natural defence mechanism to protect the developing foetus from harmful chemicals and food-related illnesses. The same mechanism pushes pregnant mothers to avoid certain foods (like potentially dangerous meats and vegetables) replacing them with blander, safer alternatives.
The study suggests morning sickness serves a useful function, evolving to protect mothers and embryos from eating things that may be dangerous.
Leave a comment if you’ve experienced morning sickness or not!
    Thanks for watching.
