Classic Game Room reviews MIDWAY ARCADE ORIGINS from Warner Bros. for PlayStation 3 PS3 (also available for Xbox 360). 30+ arcade classics like Joust, Joust 2, Wizard of Wor, Pitfighter, Defender, Defender II, Gauntlet, Gauntlet II, Spy Hunter, Spy Hunter II, Robotron 2084, Bubbles, Sinistar, Satan's Hollow, Toobin', Vindicators II, Smash TV, Total Carnage and Super Off-Road get an awesome remastering job and global leader board support in this collection of arcade classics from the 1980's and 1990's.
Joust was always my first pick back in the mid-1980s arcades. Followed by a little track and field, pole position and Battle Zone.
Never had enough quarters to get really good at any of em, but I miss those fun times. 90s arcades were great and all but they had nothing on the 80s.
Smash TV, Super Off Road and Pit Fighter bring back some really sweet memories!
Greatest compilation. Warner Brothers did a good job porting all these arcade classics. I bought this for my PS3 on the day it came out. My only gripe about this was the analogue controls for Marble Madness, owing to the fact that a trackball was used for that game. I miss Midway Games to this day ever since they went bankrupt. I still got the Midway Arcade Treasures 1, 2 and 3 compilations for my PlayStation 2 and original XBOX, so I can remember Midway. The games that were dear to my heart were Smash TV, Rampage and Spy Hunter, which were heavily influenced by movies. Spy Hunter was Influenced by James Bond 007, Rampage was influenced by the Godzilla and King Kong movies and Smash TV was influenced by The Running Man.
The moment I saw this video I found it on ebay and bought it in like a second! and for just $14! That's like 50 cents a game! Spy Hunter, Robotron, Tapper, Wizard of Wor, Defender, Joust, Sinistar!!! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!

just started playing via Games With Gold! surprised by how fun some of these arcade games still are today. I'd say at least half of them are still extremely playable and enjoyable.

@@TheKeithvidz I kind of wish there was a release of these arcade ROMs on modern platforms because it's lacking some features I'd appreciate (namely image scaling and proper scanline filters) but it's great to play these games as seemingly close to arcade-perfect as you can on a home console.
@@ShadowEl Platforms as in console. The xb 1x and SX do via emulation technique play Nintendo and PlayStation games and then some. Have a search.

Also, I don't get why this has so many mediocre reviews. Even if it doesn't have any history or concept art or interviews on the disc, we have the internet. I just wanna play all the games!

Compared to the PlayStation 2: Midway Arcade Treasures this was pretty disappointing, but still not a bad collection.
This really should had similar history/art section like in MAT.
Those were interesting to read & watch.
Trophies aren't bad, but that's not enough.
Luckily this collection isn't expensive & there are many good multiplayer games, which is rare these days.
I was able to download over 1700 arcade games in under 30GB's for mame. This includes all the Mortal Kombat games, Area 51, all the the Street Fighter games, all the NBA jab games, Virtual fighter, Off road challenge, Tekken, etc.
Blue ray space definitely was not used! It's beyond disappointing.
I also have Midway Arcade Treasures 2 for the PS2. At least it included Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, and Primal Rage.

I really think there should've been more arcade games on here.
I loves me some old school Midway, but somehow I missed this collection. Then along comes CGR to feed my addiction with another must buy game. Thanks Mark for another great video, and an early Christmas present for me! Joust 2 here I come!
May I probably be the first to say that the new CZcams layout is much better than the previous version. Much more condensed and clean.
The voice on Wizard of Wor is spectacular.
Got all three Midway collections for the old xbox, and the games are fantastic, well worth the investment. Smash TV, Defender, Paperboy, Roadblasters, Gauntlet 1+2, Robotron, Marble Madness on one disc? Hell yes. 80's 90's 8 and 16bit arcade titles were the best for innovation and all out psycho craziness.
It's also available on iPhones and iPad and I'd love to see you review them with the iPad and one of the arcade controllers like iPad arcade!
Seeing and hearing Wizard of War makes me crave vanilla soft serve ice cream. Used to play this all the time as a kid at the ice cream shop.
The music in 'Wizards of War' is epic
I had the original Vindicators for C64. Awesome to see it had a successor.
Got this recently for the 360 which is BC on the Xbox One. I love it from Off Road to Marble Madness good variety. Recommended to anyone thinking about buying it.

Creatures on the C64 by Thamalus was class........this Midway series just reminded me of it....love Spyhunter 1 and Super Offroad
I was that one guy at the midnight launch of Halo 4 who confused all the kids in line when I came out saying "Yes!! Midway Arcade Origins baby!!!"
that's what made it memorable. Thing was that the better you were at Super Off-Road, the CPU's truck (usually the grey truck) would have its AI increased to outsmart the player.
I had Pit Fighter on the Genesis. Love it...
I bought this game today for $39 used on eBay. Hope it comes in great condition.
Yeah! I love Wizard of Wor on my custom build arcade machine! When Worluk is killed we played like we were electro-shocked to that music :D But nothing can top the Commodore 64 version of the game :)
Everyone said the old youtube sucked, but i came to love it, as you will come to love this youtube. and then whatever change they make next to the youtube design and layout you will say you hated, dont hate change man.
Honestly, Mark's the only one I trust at all for reviews of games like this.
I already have Midway Arcade Treasures 1-3. Main reason anyone would need this is if they've never played Vindicators II or didn't get the games the first time around.
Oh, and I totally kick ass at "Satan's Hollow". :-D
Let's hope they'll make another one with all the 3D games plus Killer Instinct 1&2.

These games should either be in the public domain, or making money for their original developers. And they should also be made available through digital distribution channels again.

Yeah, this seems to contain most of the games from Midway's Arcade Treasures 1 & 2, With Super off round being from the 3rd one.

Total Carnage.... That could be the only game on the freaking disc and i'd still buy it.
As soon as I saw this I went and bought it from Amazon. I had no idea it even existed. To be honest I'm surprised (but glad) companies are still putting retro collections onto retail discs when they can stick them on XBL/PSN/VC etc, for 3 quid a game.
1:42 Unless you're Midway Arcade Treasures 2 where you have both Pit-Fighter and Mortal Kombat or Midway Arcade Treasures Extended Play where they went with Mortal Kombat over Pit-Fighter

How true. Since many just MAME these classics, anyhow, the 'official' companies really should compile the ultimate Blu-Ray disc of as many arcades as possible for pure profit. Although, this library isn't bad. But, it has untapped promise at what could be.
What was my first lesson on the storage capacity of Blu-Ray? A friggin' Flash Gordon marathon on a TV...inside the virtual world of some game! Yea! Over eight hours...AND NO PAUSE CONTROL! Watch til' it hurts.

It's worth the $4.00 for when it goes on sale and iv saw that the game is always on sale off and on special advents.
Great vid. Sad to know Midway is gone...also, no idea why everyone thinks youtube sucks now. I haven't had any problems with it and looks like the apple app to me.

I wish they would just put every game on a disc and sell it that way. I bet the sales would be better, and Midway's dead anyway... I do remember Midway Arcade Treasures 2 on Gamecube and Extended Play on PSP, and the picking a choosing at this point, like 7 game compilations later, is stupid I think.

i dont like the faunt borders on every game , great collection i have backwards compatible ps3 so its nice to have this and all the arcade compilations for ps 2 , the best home arcade machine would be ps 2 , 3 midway compilations, 2 capcom collections , atari anthology, 2 taito compilations, snk neo geo collection, namco collection, not to mention Activision and intelevision compilations and sonic compilations

This review is too short I was waiting for something longer. The reviews lately are getting shorter. We like Mark's reviews more than the games itself. Or maybe that's a sign that people is getting cheap and is not helping out Classic Game Room. I love his Gran Turismo 5 review by the way.
I have to disagree with you. They should have included MK1, MK2, MK3, & UMK3. I would have also included Primal Rage, Paperboy, & Spy Hunter. You being a video game buff that seems to be fairly knowledgeable about games, I'm surprised you never heard of Vindicators. However, rather than buying that limited collection, I already have most of those downloaded to my original Xbox on XBMC.

I got this compilation, the very day it came out on the PS3! Warner Brothers could've done a lot better with this compilation by including KLAX, Paperboy and Primal Rage. I miss Midway Games so much, ever since they went bankrupt.

Mark, there is a vectrex app on iOS (it's free but has a $7 in app purchase which I assume unlocks all the games). Based on how much you talk about the vectrex I thought you may want to know about it. Could you possibly review it and compare it to the real vectrex? Thanks! Also, idk if it's on android devices.

I think it's weird that Atari has the rights to a lot of old arcade games, but not the rights to the mid 80's and 90's arcade games as Midway bought Atari Games Corp. Personally, I wish Midway bought Atari instead of Infogrames. Imagine Netherrealm Studios making a DBZ game.

Yeah Vindicators II? How is the game different from Vindicators? Havent gotten very far yet, but it seems like the exact same game. Your review should have included Xybots, as that's a nice inclusion.
