Chris Thile singing David Byrne's lyrics= my mind officially lost. My two favorite musicians all in one performance!

The amount of musical talent in this song is insane. Obviously you got Chris Thile but beyond that Cory Wong is an insane guitar player with a successful solo career, Joey Dosik and Theo Katzman playing auxiliary percussion in the back are amazing multi-instrumentalists and singer-songwriters, Maggie Rogers on backup vocals who's a budding pop star, and Shaun Martin in the back of Snarky Puppy fame. And those are just the ones I recognize. Everyone else is probably a famous musician too that I'm just unaware of.

Yeah it's a ton of talent!
A couple you missed (who have 5 Grammys between them): Sarah Jarosz is an absolutely amazing singer-songwriter in her own right, well worth investigating. Mike Elizondo is a heck of a bass player and producer. He's the producer behind a lot of memorable Dr. Dre riffs (e.g. Mary J. Blige's A Family Affair), and has worked with everyone: Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ry Cooder, Sheryl Crow, Gwen Stefani, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Jay Z, Ed Sheerhan, Fiona Apple, Lin Manuel Miranda...the list goes on and on.

The fact that I understand the level of genius involved in this cover of another genius like David Byrne, well, makes me feel good. Chris Thile is a gift in these troubled times. His indescribable talent... His pure joy is absolutely contagious. I pity those who just don't get how great this is. Better yet, I'll just dance... After all, it's nothing but flowers!

Amazing that Chris Thile covered David Byrne, but hearing Cory Wong playing the parts that Johnny Marr played on the original makes the whole thing that little bit cooler.

Best cover of this song I've heard! Nice performances by the ensemble! I always see this song as happy in beat and tune, yet sadly ironic in lyrics. Maybe it was Byrne practicing directed meditation in trying to bring about the anti-apocalypse / devolution of techonology, "as things fell apart, nobody paid much attention" -- which works on more than one level, both the actual state of reality and the ironic. "This used to be real estate, now it's only fields and trees" is this Einstien's arrow of time pointed backwards to make a point? Raising the abstract and emotionless term "real estate" above the beauty of unspoiled nature and diminishing it with "only?" The protagonist of the song yearns for the past of "cherry pies, candybars and chocolate chip cookies" just as we now yearn for an idyllic, yet mythological simpler time before the industrial revolution. I don't see this as a critique of the environmental movement's comfortable middle class ethics, as others have theorised. To me, it is more of an ironic, "wouldn't it be nice if we were pining for Dairy Queens instead of seeing them on every block?"
