As a Filipino youngan back in the 80's. We mostly had the DJ's(Q-Bert, MixMaster Mike, and DJ Apollo) and breakdancers to represent us. But no rap groups. But as soon as the Boo-Yaa Tribe single Raid came out. It was the closest thing to our culture. The Pacific islander culture. Man I was proud to carry the Raid 12" single at my high school. The miulis was scared to say something bad about the record, because the Usos was gonna let them have it. That was my 1st memory of the Boo-Yaa Tribe and their music. Big up to the sick uso poppers(Kobra, Fred Lau, and Heckle and Jeckle) too. 🤙🏽✊🏽💪🏽
Say I was coming up in Htown TX and first time I heard or seen anything BYT a Polynesian neighbor of ours had his grandsons come visit him from California and we were youngins maybe 12 yrs old and we hit it off im half Mexican half Colombian born in Texas and bro was cool cat and he showed me how they did it on the west coast and I was like yo them cats looked mean and tough.. I always used to get a laugh when I seen Boo Ya Tribe dance that boogie.. but shout out to Jay... last I seen him was 93,94 damn near 30 years my Samoan bro..
I always bring up the stories about Booya Tribe. During the East Coast / West Cost beef. I was at the Felly Fell (Power 106 Dj). All these NY tough guys were there walking around looking tough. Until Booya Tribe showed up. After all these HUGE Samoans came, everyone turn into polite and it was like oil and water. People respected their space and turned Harry Potter fans.

How Monday ganja wouldn’t be around but for respect from turnouts because of the family. How deathrow wouldn’t fuck with you guys cause they were scared, even though Suge was known for his ways.
