    If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. czcams.com/users/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!

    My 1st winix 5500-2 has still held up years after I’ve purchased it. I take care of it and clean it out thoroughly every once in a while and replace the filters every 6 months. This was a well done comparison of the models. Interstingly I found on Amazon the spec for the 5300-2 is 3 lbs heavier than the 5500-2. I placed the order for the 5300-2 simply because I am not concerned with the odor absorption benefits of the pellet based charcoal filter of the 5500-2. I’m looking to reduce the chances of COVID-19 virus in the house. I already run 4 20” box fans with filtrete 20x20” high grade filters on the back. Its amazing how much dirt these filters catch. For anyone looking for a cheap alternative I highly recommend the box fan/filter combo. The winix will provide perhaps better filtration but mostly aesthetically pleasing cabinet and quieter operation. I’m not afraid of Covid-19 but if I can take precautions inside the house with air cleaners not.

    Bought the 5500-2 ten months ago and it eventually made a ticking noise and I couldn’t sleep and agitated me as I read or watched videos. Today I purchased the XL Winix D 480 at Home Depot for $ 219.00 and is beautiful in white! I use the turbo setting and then can put it on sleep mode and it is SO QUIET. Ahhh 🙃

    • @jTempVids
      @jTempVids Před 3 lety

      If your not going to or don't want to mess with the warranty on the Winix (2 years). The ticking noise is most likely the impeller. It tends to come lose sometimes or not be tightened enough at the factory. There are multiple videos showing how to fix it. czcams.com/video/kWxs-RHd3dI/video.html
      How do you like the D480? It seems to be a more powerful Winix 5300-2 (250 CFM) with no Plasmawave. I've been thinking about buying a D480 for the higher CFM (320 CFM).

  • @jTempVids
    @jTempVids Před 3 lety +2

    Have you tried out the Winix D480 yet? It looks like Winix is only selling it at HomeDepot. It looks like it's basically a 5300-2 with a more powerful motor (90W).
    The D480 says it is AHAM verified for a 480 square foot room. The CADR of the D480: 310, 312, 348. So the CFM would be something like 320 CFM (CADR->CFM).
    I'm trying to get the specs from Winix. From what I can tell it uses a impregnated carbon filter like the 5300-2. No Plasmawave.
    If this is true. The Winix D480 could be a better purifier than the 5300-2 & 5500-2 if you don't care about the pellet carbon filter.
    For the price it's also getting close to the CFM of the the BlueAir 211+ (350 cfm) but with an actual TrueHepa filters.
    I've read some reviews that this model will be rebranded in this year (2021) by Winix.

    Have you noticed a difference between 5300 vs 5500 carbon filters? I see this pointed out a lot, but no one actually mentions many differences other than it's supposed to be better.
    Does it do that much better of a job at trapping odors and gasses from your tests? I have the C545 from Costco (comparable to a 5300-2) and while it is an amazing device for the Wi-Fi/Alexa features and I'd miss it, I'd like something that can do even a 20-30% better job at trapping odors or just making the air feel slightly fresher.

You could try using one at first to see if it lowers particle concentration to an acceptable level for you, but based on my testing I wouldn't recommend one unit for any space larger than about 300 sq. ft.

      The 5500-2 is the better option. The extra "pet" filter on the HR900 acts as an additional pre-filter but you already have a washable pre-filter on the 5500-2. The extra "pet" filter also has to be replaced at cost.

  • @ewwxcutie

    What do you think about the new Winix AM80 vs the Winix 5500-2? From all stats I can find, the main difference comes down to the timer & remote availability, and CADR (dust / pollen / smoke): [AM80] 233 / 240 / 230 vs. [5500-2] 243 / 246 / 232. How big of a difference does this lower CADR from the AM80 make? They're the same price on the Winix site.
    Basically wondering if the lower CADR from the AM80 is worth the more modern look, but not really willing to sacrifice lower performance if it's going to make a tangible difference. What are your thoughts?

    • @consumer-analysis
      @consumer-analysis  Před 3 lety +1

      Looking at the specifications for the AM80, I don't think there should be much difference in performance between it and the 5500-2. If you prefer the more modern look of the AM80 I say go for it.

    • @matfalkner
      @matfalkner Před 3 lety

      I have one of those. It really doesn't make a difference. Think about it this way. If the HEPA filter is catching the mold spores then they don't need to be killed as they aren't going back out into the room. It's nice to have and I turn on the UVC every now and then but it's now really a necessity. HEPA already takes it out of the air and you'll throw that away so it doesn't really matter.
