    The episode is very cleverly written as it focuses on Rose and she asks the questions new viewers are asking. What happened? How could he change? Is it still The Doctor? What do we do now? For a lot of people this was their first regeneration and they had got used to Eccleston and didn't want to have the show change. It happens every time, even for us old time viewers. Story 1: I don't like him. End of Story 1: Well he seems OK let's give him a chance. An episode or two later: He's awesome, I love him.

    The minisode was for Children in need - a sneak peek inbetween series which helped attract donations . This was the first Christmas special and kind of established working some festive stuff into the story . Once it settled it was a great way to establish David Tennant . By the end I think you felt as we all did , he was the Doctor . As he said " regeneration is a lottery " and every actor who has played the role has their own take on it and is always recognised as the Doctor .
    The regeneration idea has proved to be a great way of refreshing the show and one of the reasons it's carried on for so long.Using Rose and her family , with Harriet Jones to carry the first part of the story with cameos from real news presenters was a good idea . Also loved the Douglas Adams " Hitchikers guide " references .

    As The Doctor said to Harriet Jones in this episode that this was Great Britain's golden age under her rule, I'd like to officially welcome you to the Golden Age of Doctor Who. David Tennant is MY Doctor, THE Doctor. Nobody played the role quite like him, especially in the regeneration of the series at least. He's just the perfect representation of what The Doctor should be; Quirky, funny, downright crazy, but when he needs to be, as deadly serious as a Time Lord needs to be. You're in for a treat, and I for one am jealous that you get to live it all for the first time!

    born again was a short film made for a major charity event in the uk called Red Nose Day. it's common for productions in the uk to make stuff for it, usually comedy sketches featuring famous celebrities doing ridiculous stuff for charity. Rtd, the showrunner, didn't want to do anything overly comedic so decided to make this short film set between series 1 and the Christmas special instead which would elevate the conserrs of younger fans who didn't grow up knowing the show from classic who, about regeneration. Later series go on to make more explicitly comedic shorts, dozens of them infact. some of them where mini episodes made to promote the show, some where for charity events, some where for other events which range in quality significantly, generally the 3 or 4 that are considered required viewing when reacting to the show are the ones of the highest quality.

    • @SuperPoodleboy
      @SuperPoodleboy Před rokem +2

      The whole anagram thing is kind of why the name came up in the first place. Before the New Doctor Who was officially announced they needed a codename to operate under to minimise leaks and protect footage from being stolen, so they called the show Torchwood and put that as the title for any footage, casting, bookings etc. Once the series was revealed and released they no longer needed the codename so the worked the codename into the show itself as the shadowy organisation and "Bad Wolf" of Season 2.

    Whenever the Doctor regenerates it's only partially true that he doesn't know who he is because he retains his memories and his morals and standards that he lives by. However, his looks and personality are a lottery where the answers are discovered in time. We, the audience, definitely have an adjustment period after a regeneration - and some are absolutely more difficult to adjust to than others - but if you give them a chance, the newest regeneration of the Doctor will grow on you.
    The 9th Doctor smiled a lot and enjoyed joking around with people but he didn't tolerate those who threatened his friends or innocent people, and underneath all that was the hurt and sadness and anger that lingered from the Time War still lurking down deep to spring up full force in unexpected ways. Even in one season, you could see that being with Rose was starting to help him heal by giving him someone to carry on for, and he was able to see everything differently a little bit by seeing it through her eyes.
    The 10th Doctor is definitely more conventionally attractive than 9 was, but younger looking too, which can make enemies like the ones in this episode underestimate him. He's also very charming, and not afraid to swoop in and fight - but beware of being deceitful because he obviously has no compunction about dropping enemies off of a spaceship high above London and letting them fall to their death. He also had no problems seriously messing up Harriet's political career because she blew up the ship after he had already taken care of the problem. And above all, he still cares deeply about Rose and will protect her even if he's incapacitated. My theory about his choice in clothing is because people tend to respect you more if you're wearing a suit and tie, but he kept the sneakers/trainers because he does a LOT of running.

    A lot of fans call that period after the Doctor changes appearance as being “high on regeneration energy” 😂
    A period where they’re just kinda manic and frantic and figuring themselves out, their own stance and perspectives and such, all while maintaining the same memories, same experiences, it is the same continuous individual.
    But man, here we are, Tennant, baby! Eccleston brought the show back and gave it a lot of buzz when it turned out to be better than people expected for an at the time just over 40 year old show that was brought back. For instance the budget I think was increased significantly, allowing them to pull off shots and sequences they couldn’t do before with basically a pilot season budget. Note the shot especially of the CGI Tardis coming in for a bumpy landing, knocking stuff over that’s there on set.
    But Tennant really begins to take things up a notch in terms of exploring depth and complexity to the post Time War period of the Doctor’s life, I’ll leave it there before I get spoilery.

    Different but the same definitely makes sense. It's the Doctor but not the Doctor. The writers deserve a massive shoutout in making sure it's similar but fresh and new. I adore Ecclestone too but I hope you enjoy this new chapter!

    The Torchwood question is either after episode 3 or maybe 5. It makes little difference after that because the stories don't overlap at all apart from Jack mentioning the Doctor sometimes but that gives you a better idea of what Torchwood is.
    David Tenant is the most successful Doctor Who of all time in that he has the most episodes and the largest following and the longest number of years in the part. That is no mean feat for a show that has been running for 60 years.

    It's always difficult when the first doctor you have got used too regenerates. You should check out some stories from the other doctors to prep yourself on the variations you can get. For doctor 2 I recommend Tomb of the Cybermen & Web of Fear which is a sequel to a 2012 episode. You don't get any spoilers.

    A female British prime minister ordering the destruction of a retreating enemy vessel is a clear reference to the sinking of the Argentine warship General Belgrano during the Falklands War.
    Also, the Arthur Dent/dressing gown reference means that Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy exists in the Whoniverse.

    • @wullaballoo2642
      @wullaballoo2642 Před rokem

      Except for the Belgrano hadn't surrendered and wasn't going home like the vessel in this story, obviously the writers an idiot. They sank several of our ships and would have sank more if we'd have just left it to attack us. Just because it was sailing away from the islands at the time, it wasn't going on a holiday, it was in fact turning and planning an attack.

    Don’t worry, you didn’t miss any scenes when The Doctor transformed. Ever since the 1970’s the convention has been to show the new actors as a cliffhanger in the last scene of the season. Then make you wait for the new season before you find out anything about the new personality.

    Getting used to a new Doctor always takes an episode or two. Perhaps because the scripts are written with the previous Doctor in mind, it can often seem like the new actor is trying to imitate the old one. It doesn't take long to get past that though. Tennant is a lot of people's favourite Doctor, and with him, the show went from being a quirky but fairly popular oddity to a TV phenomenon. Enjoy the ride!

    David Tennant was the most popular Doctor, with the highest viewing figures, and some of the best episodes written, and is right up there on anyones' favourite Doctor list and I have no doubt that you will quickly warm to him. One of the most memorable facets of Tennants' time as the Doctor, was the introduction of the most terrifying adversaries of all, but I won't spoil it for you. Have fun watching, it'll be a wild ride. :)
    I can highly recommend Torchwood, it's a more adult spin-off with Captain Jack Harkness, season 1 does a good job of introducing and developing the characters, but season 2 is one of my favourite sci-fi series ever.

    basically you dont have to watch torchwood to understand the main show but if you want to watch it what you have to keep in mind is.
    the show sort of spoils stuff from series 2. some stuff from torchwood is sort of involved in the series 3, so typical watch order is to finish series 1 of tochwood before you finish series 3 of nuwho. and series 2 of torchwood sort of plays into series 4 of the show, so finish series 2 of torchwood before series 4 of nuwho. although again, it's not really as neccessary to watch them in a perticular order as ppl make out, they're independant stories that occassionally cross into eachother.
